oO(GIT!!)
oO(Canada?? lucky $(£(£*(")_$)%" )
OK - IP address - hmm :)
Imagine that every computer online at once lives in a big street. Every computer would then be like a house. Each house on a street has a number. This in computing terms is an IP Address - your address on the Internet.
Each time u connect to the internet, you are assigned a new IP address, unless you are on a Cable or DSL connection, as they are connected to the internet all the time and very rarely change addresses.
Each Internet Provider is allocated a block of addresses. I may be wrong, But i`m assuming Gaspode is with BT Internet. as you will see - his IP address is 62.7.51.62 and mine, taken about 20 minutes later was 62.7.55.28 - the 62.7 will signify BT Internet. Freeserve have their own numbers, as do AOL, and so on.
This is how basic online paging systems like ICQ and AOL IM work - they work out your IP Address and send messages to that address.
The reason that the IP addresses are shown on this board are many.
1 - It looks professional for Chris to have IP addresses from all over the world logging into the board (although he seems to fix that fact single handedly as it is).
2 - Most, if not all, ISP`s (Internet Service Providers) will have a log of when such and such a number was allocated to such and such a person (this is why most ISP`s insist you do not caller id hold your number when you call), so that, if someone is up to mischief, they can be traced (Yes Tom - that does mean that the authorities are watching you view the Chaka Demus and Pliers website!).
3 - There wasnt anything to go in the bottom right hand corner of the box and it looked prety :)
If u want further clarification - Ask Chris the globetrotting webmaster when he returns.
oO(Is it too late to ask why Chris travels the world all the time? Maybe we now know where he gets the money for such a kickass website :) )
