People, you would think, have to be stoned to come up with a lot of ideas. Think about blue hedgehogs that tear around at christ knows what speed with a fox with two tails as his sidekick; also whoever thought that a fat, bald yellow bloke who likes doughnuts would be funny? Then there's the kids programs, I never watched it, but someone started a thread about Willo the Wisp a while back. What the f*ck?

Of course Willo the Wisp was a product of drugs, most children's programs are.

Dickie wrote::roll: At the end of the day every console has it's +'s & -'s.

That's certainly true:

PLAYSTATION 2:

+ Strong branding
+ Tons of peripherals
+ Tons of games
- "Casual gamers" console
- So many rubbish games
- Least powerful hardware and complicated development tools

XBOX
+ Most powerful and sturdiest console
+ Built-in hard drive and broadband adaptor
- Made by Microsoft
- Largest of the three consoles

GAMECUBE
+ Lots of popular exclusives
+ Long-lasting franchises from Nintendo's catalogue
+ Smallest console and easiest programming tools
- "Kiddy" console, no thanks to Pokémon... not that the GBA games aren't good
- Lack of games and online play and no DVD drive
- Lack of advertising = weak brand

Anyone think of any more? 8)

Hmmm, lets think about each consoles exclusive games brands:

Playstation 2 has Gran Tourismo, WWE Smackdown and thats about it. Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy and GTA are out on other formats now.

Xbox has Halo, nope, wait a sec, that coming out on the PC soon so its left with pretty much nothing.

Gamecube has Zelda, Mario, Metroid, Resident Evil and Pokemon

Nuff said.

Since Capcom and Nintendo accounced it last year, I think it was at E3. Resident Evil Zero, 1, 2 and Nemesis are already out on Gamecube, Code Veronica is being released this year and Resident Evil 4 is exclusive to Gamecube and comes out in 2004.

GC exclusive my arse

lol, Resident Evil: Online and Outbreak are the same game and was in development before the announcement and thus, is still coming out on PS2. However, further Resident Evil titles are Gamecube exclusive.

May I direct your attention to the first paragraph here:

What about the first person resident Evil shooters, there still comming out on PS2. Anyway Outbreak is comming out on PS2 only because Nintendo don't seem to like online as much as the rest. Lets face it with the way things are going at the moment Nintendo need all the help they can get to stay in the market.

They are not coming out on Gamecube because it does not have a light gun. I've played them and they aren't anything special anyway.

Anyway Outbreak is comming out on PS2 only

It was always intended to be PS2 exclusive but I can't see it being successful unless Sony bring their online network up tp Xbox Live standard.

Nintendo don't seem to like online as much as the rest

Correct and thats because they are waiting until there is enough interest in online gaming for the general public, not just "hardcore gamers". Nintendo target their consoles at all ages (despite what the media says) while Sony and Microsoft target a specific age group of "mature gamers".

Nintendo need all the help they can get to stay in the market

Wrong. Nintendo are in second place in terms of worldwide sales, have a dedicated fanbase and have successful franchises such as Mario, Zelda and the hugely popular Pokemon. There is also the Game Boy which, depending on how you look at it, is the most successful console ever. In many ways Nintendo revolutionised computer games with numerous things eg.

intenting the platform game;
introducing the west to the RPG;
creating the d-pad, analogue stick an shoulder buttons;
and the rumble pack.

Also, if it weren't for Nintendo, there would probably be no Playstation and maybe even no Xbox.

Well there wouldn't be any playstation. Only reason it appeared was Nintendo got Sony to make an add-on for the SNES, then just as it was nearing completion, they turned their back on Sony. Sony, pissed off after spending so much money and time decided to make it a stand alone console and released it.
Nintendo have done many good things but this was one of their biggest mistakes.

I'm sorry but you are infact wrong, when reading the financial times and indeed BBC Finance they has reports from Nintendo officials and infact their profits were down by 60% of the previous year and in fact they were facing finacial problems if things didn't pick up. It is in fact the GBA that is keeping them afloat as their console isn't really in any league with current sales of the others. With PSP looming soon they need to buck up their ideas and that’s why the announcement about some new form of console that’s unique and original. So next time do you research.

I don't see this as being competition to the GBA since Sony are making a completely different kind of machine all together, not a dedicated games console. But it will probably sell by the bucket load due to the mind numbingly stupid public who will buy it just because it has Sony stamped all over it. I go for quality over quantity and that's why I prefer Nintendo, they are the most experienced and know how to make games, the other companies need outside developers. Sony have Metal Gear Solid (Konami), Final Fantasy (Square-Enix) and GTA (Rockstar). Microsoft have Halo (Bungie Software) and nothing else while Nintendo have Mario (Nintendo), Zelda (Nintendo) and Pokemon (Nintendo). Sony and Microsoft would be in big trouble if they lost those developers whereas Nintendo make their own games. Don't get me wrong, I like the Xbox and PS2 (I have one as well as a Gamecube) but game wise Nintendo is the best.

The gamecube is a kids console with lots of rubish RPG type games based around what japanese kids want. there are no good action, racing, strategy games on gamecube IMO, they are just lame, animated RPG games and pokemon trash. Dixons have stoped stocking it around this area because no one wants one!

They stopped full stop everywhere as there was no profit to be made from them selling Gamecube games.

Sony do develop top sellings games of their own......have you heard of Gran Turismo? Not to mention Primal which was another top seller. As well as now having the exclusive license to F1 games as the EA license ran out.

who cares if games are made by outside developers or not?

the very fact that these developers are queuing up to make games for the PS2 surely says something. fact is, sony have made such a great peice of hardware that it makes developers' work worthwhile.

as for pokemon...thats SO 1999

*Evil laughter* I love it when people say things like this and they clearly don't have a clue :P Ok, here I go:

1. Yes, the Gamecube is a kids console because its small and purple and has a carry handle and uses small discs. It also has lots of kiddies games such as the Resident Evil series, Metroid Prime, Hitman 2: Silent Assassin, Dead to Rights, True Crime: Streets of LA and soon Metal Gear Solid.

2. Yes, it has lots of rubbish RPG such as Zelda, Lost Kingdoms 1&2, Phantasy Star Online 1&2, Skies of Arcadia Legends, Baldurs Gate: Dark Alliance and soon Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles.

3. Action games- see most of number 1. Also, Timeslitters 2, Enter the Matrix, Star Wars: Rogue Leader etc.
Racing games- Burnout 1&2, Extreme G3, Wave Race: Blue Storm and soon Mario Kart: Double Dash and F Zero GX
Strategy games- doesn't have many other than Pikmin, they belong on PC's anyway.

4. Just because Dixons (and also Argos) has stopped stocking them doesn't mean that not a single person wants one. The vast majority of stores still stock them.

5. I have heard of Gran Turismo, and I own it. Primal was a "top seller" but wasn't a top game.

6. Developers are "queuing up" to make games for the PS2 because it has the biggest user base and they have a better chance of making more money.

7. Pokemon Ruby and Saphire currently occupy the number 1 and 2 spot in the all formats chart so I wouldn't say that they are "SO 1999".

Anyway, I'm tired of bickering, I'm curious to know what everyones top 5 games ever are? Mines would have to be:

1. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (N64)
2. Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty (PS2)
3. Shadowman (N64)
4. Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (PS2)
5. Mystycal Ninja Starring Goemon (N64)

Gamecube is rubbish for racing games, out of the 3 it's by far the worse. If your into your serious car racing it's awful.

It is maketed for the younger audience just because you happened to name others that arn't kiddie like, doesn't change the fact it is marketted more at kids than any other console.

There still isn't as much profit to be made from the games from the other shops, Nintendo have announced there not making any more cubes for a few months as they have made to many and they have a backlog of unsold units where as other consoles have been better at making their console to the demand level.

You been defending Nintendo and now your not. Nintendo have made to many consoles where as the others have made enough for the demand. So PS2 and XBox have been make quality where as Nintendo have been making the quantity.
