Aled gets the flexibiity to do his welsh programmes at the bbc in addition to his R1 job. I can't see it be an easy decision for him to leave as it would be more about being a radio personality with unclear career path.

Yeah, it must be difficult for him since the three know each other very well. However, I think he should ask more questions, get to know everyone better. He's like a newbie in a class that just stands there. I know his job is a bit different (he's a producer, isn't he?), but still. Chris does try to talk to him whenever he can, but he himself doesn't show any initiative, which is not very good...

Also, in reading about Nuclear crisis I discovered that one of the signs that the country could not be functioning (i.e. cause to go on nuclear alert) is the requirement of Radio 4 to be broadcasting. In 2004 Radio 4 went off the air for 15 minutes and we went on nuclear alert, the trident subs were mobilised.

So my question is this.

WHICH YEAR DID DAVE TAKE SIMON MAYO OFF AIR? If it was him, he put the country on nuclear standby!

Believe Dave took Simon Mayo's Radio 1 mid-morning show off the air. According to wiki it would be somewhere near the tail end of 1996 when he did it.

I unfollowed the Radio X page as I was also following The Chris Moyles one (the Radio 1 version is still up btw with 1.4million likes) so was getting everything twice, however it seems some just can't let go re the end of XFM, problem is XFM wasn't really listened to by that many people at all, this revamp was only done for that reason and yet some on there still don't get that.

Plus the insults are lazy too "fat *" was one where someone corrected the poster only to be told "well the 28 likes disagree with you", imbeceile

Anyway doesn't matter, just one more page to unfollow on FB (which I'm using less and less these days anyway)


Give it a month or so and I'm sure the complaints will be minimal by then anyway, plus it seems, judging by this mornings show, that it's all starting to really fall into place now.

You have the clash of two very different audiences: the loyal but small XFM audience who prefer music over talk, and the big audience of people who are too old for Radio 1 but Radio 2 doesn't really cater for them yet. I think it's fair to say that with the former, they've gone as far as they could go and the audience figures have been struggling for a while now, and I imagine most of that audience has probably migrated over to 6 Music who can do it on a better budget with no adverts. The latter is a very big opportunity for commercial radio and, done right, could be very successful.

Can't comment on what XFM was like as I never listened, but overall I've found Radio X to be an enjoyable listen so far. The other presenters/shows, the music, it's generally very nice IMO. It probably helps that I've always been a fan of indie and Britpop, but still...

Oh yes I remember that, as a occasional listener to both Absolute is a better station the Virgin to me, it just seems to be run better

Oh absolutely but the way they have been grinding their teeth it's like they have no alternative, they do though, Absolute is a better version of XFM and 6Music had a mor ecclectic playlist.

Radio X is 6Music lite, plays decent music (depending on what you like of course) but not the really obscure stuff that 6 does or as ecclectic playlist (see weekends of Gideon Coe on weekdays to get what I mean)

Re Radio X I agree, no complaints from me re the music so far, XFM was similar but with a a snobbish attitude, tbh I found XFM more of a "for men" station than I do Radio X but then again I've only listened to Chris so far so don't really know.

Re the comments, I've come to the conclusion some people just dislike Moyles automatically due to listening back when he did weekend late nights on 95.8 Capital FM (as it was back then) or his afternoo stuff on Radio 1, he's changed a lot since then but some people still have a dickish attitude about him all these years on unfortunately.

Chris tweeted a short while ago about someone complaining that he took 25 minutes to play the first record because of all the talking.
Some people just don't get his show.

Having looked at the Twitter account of said individual, he's someone who tries very hard to be outrageous, insulting and funny.
Blocked him straight away so I don't have to see any more of his crap on my feed, and no great loss to Chris' listeners.
Just attention seeking I think.

Funniest thing was this guy described the song as something from the 60s, but as Chris pointed out, "It was the Rolling Stones!!!! FFS!"
