It looks like I may have to bust out the old Mini Disc recorder then [emoji14]

Either that or IIRC someone one here used to tape live from DAB with a radio that had a memory card slot, so that may be an option?

James H wrote:Yes, entirely possible, so long as you leave the Sky box on 0113 and disable the auto-power off.

I think Sky+ HD boxes have 2 x RCA out which could convert to a 3.5mm jack for your line-in.

I'm going to look into this when I get home. It must be possible. I have an audio interface and various cables, and I could record straight into my audio editing programming and have it ready and waiting for editing.

The only downside would be that I couldn't schedule a shutdown because my audio program would say "do you want to save the project" etc. Although the audio file would already have been created, so if my shutdown task could ignore that warning (maybe it would ignore it anyway?), then maybe I could do that?

It's possible to use a command-line tool to do the recording for you which will then silently close itself when it's all done, but you'll need a bit of work with batch files to get it working. I don't mind providing a bit of assistance though if you need it!

Here's the tool I found: https://romanrm.net/lineincode#scheduling-example

Looks a bit complicated! I have got LAME already installed though, for encoding mp3's.

I'm pretty sure that at least one of my audio programs can do a fixed length recording, and I could start in manually each morning (on days when I was in work anyway), so I'd just need my task scheduler shutdown task to ignore warnings about saving open projects.

The main issue is days when I'm off work, when getting up before 6:30am would not be an option. The PC would have to be on overnight the night before (unless waking from hibernation), with a scheduled recording from Sky.

I'll be interested to see what streamwriter has picked up today. Following Neil's advice (thanks Neil!) I re-inputted the url of the stream and that seemed to help, but by then it was 11pm so a bit late to do another test scheduled recording. This is a right faff compared to the old days of Radio Downloader, eh? :)

Somebody uploaded an F.M. recording. I'm just listening to the full version now to see if it is worth editing it. If it is I'll get straight on it and try to upload it here. It's been a while and my interenet is'nt exactly brilliant latley.

I'll save you the hassle of hunting....

Full show in HQ, no edits, so everything's in as broadcast. If you want to stream it you may, but it could be buffer o'clock as the server gets busier. Enjoy! :D

The quality is pretty good soo far. It's better than some early BBC Breakfast shows.

NP.

I think you'll find it's a mess like mine, today, but let us know if you get a full, clean recording.

Anyone else having a problem with the Listen Again on the Radio X radio player where it randomly starts from the start again. And I cant get it to jump to right bit of it just says "Loading....".

Happened once yesterday and for todays show its happened a couple times.

Are people Listening Again another way?? Whats the URL direct to the stream?? Thanks
#506411
Just viewed the source on the Radio X player Listen Again when on todays show and there is a link to an mp3 player.

If I enter that into browser, starts playing. Tried jumping ahead and after awhile, it starts playing.

So for example, todays link is http://fs.geronimo.thisisglobal.com/aud ... 68eea8.mp3

Actually entered this URL into Quicktime and its easier to jump forward and it starts playing more or less straight away. Lets hope it doesnt auto re-start! Should do since that I guess was to do with the online radio x radio player??

Yeah, I have no idea what the quality of the feed is, but it's clearly pretty high. I recorded at 192kbps which is what I usually go for with mp3. I've also checked with my sequencer and it can limit the recording time, so I can limit it to 3.5 hours or whatever.

Now I just wonder if I will be able to shut down the PC at a certain time and make sure it ignores my "do you want to save this project?" prompt when the PC tries to close my sequencer. Do you think that's possible? Could I add some kind of argument to my Task Scheduler task?

Regarding the full show that was uploaded (the archive.us one), it is pretty decent quality, but there is a constant hiss noise in the background which you can hear during the quiet bits (e.g. during the pips at the start). Shall I go ahead and edit this one, or do you think it's worth waiting for a better quality version in case someone has one?

160kbps Joint Stereo according to that :)

That depends on the audio software. Command line would definitely do it though, sorry! :)

As for the FM, It's worth holding fire to see if someone did get a non-FM/DAB source. I think someone said they were getting a copy off their Sky box tonight

Might as well record at 160kbps then!

So this command line thingy...you reckon I could do the same thing, recording from Sky into my audio interface, at 160kbps, for 3.75 hours, and then shut down the PC, without having to use my sequencer? Because that would seem to be the way to go. Unfortunately I can't make much sense of that page that you linked to!

It looks like I need to install:

LineInCode
Vorbis-Tools
Lame Encoder (got it)
FLAC
Speex
MusePack

Is that right?

Edit: LiveInCode seems to be a more user-friendly version? Although I suppose if you wanted it to run silently then you wouldn't need a GUI

You only need the other ones if you aren't encoding in MP3 :) Just LineInCode and Lame

Ok, I've got it downloaded, and I'm attempting to try to work out what the batch file commands need to be, despite the fact that there doesn't seem to be any kind of manual! So I've got:

run lineinbat every weekday.bat

at 6:25 /interactive /every:M,T,W,Th,F "D:\My Documents\Moyles\Moyles Radio X Breakfast Show\LineInBat\record moyles radio x.bat"

^^^ I'm guessing the above command would go into a new task in Task Scheduler? Or would Task Scheduler run the batch file?

record moyles radio x.bat

@echo off
d:
cd D:\My Documents\Moyles\Moyles Radio X Breakfast Show
echo Moyles Radio X Recorder
linco -B 16 -C 1 -R 44100 -D 3:45:00 | mp3 --endian=little --sign=signed --channels=1 --bps=16 --sample-rate=44100 - -o New Moyles Radio X.mp3 %1 %2 %3 %4 %5 %6 %7 %8 %9

^^^^ I'm guessing that this would need modifying a bit - Would it be 160kbps? How would it know what inputs to use on my interface, which sound card etc? And there would presumably need to be a shutdown command either in this batch file or the other one.

Also, should we do this in PM? :)
