Just spotted this:

Image

It says 'promoted by Chris Moyles' - which means that Chris has paid (and these things aren't cheap, we're talking £2-5k minimum) to have a seemingly meaningless tweet promoted.

The only reason I can think of is to keep his profile up, but by doing this he would need to have an upcoming reason to raise awareness. Confusing though as the Kaiser chiefs don't have a particularly large following on Twitter (55k on the official account, similar with band members).

Having said that, he could have just thought it was funny to promote pictures of Rick looking ugly on his birthday.

Very hard to think it's not a pilot for something in the future - anyway, it only got 173 RT's so can't have been a successful experiment!

Chris met with people from Twitter recently, so they probably gave him a freebie and he decided to use it as a joke.

Ah right, didn't know that.

If that's the case, it seems a right shame to waste it on that!

Especially for someone who always seemed so into stuff like this.

It was lovely to see Chris contributing to the Many Faces of Sid James documentary on BBC2 this evening. Not something I expected to see him in, and not a huge amount of screen time, but nice that he was asked. I expect it'll be on the iPlayer.

Jeesh, how much hair product does he us these days?

Still so weird to see him with his hair grown out compared to how he has been on the show for years. I'm guessing they wanted him to have more hair for JCS.

Although if that picture was taken at the time of posting then it would have been like 1 in the morning over there?

Not that the picture had to be taken at that time.

Good shot except for the coloring, shame he is trying to look hip with his ciggy.

Not sure if this link will actually work for anyone but I just signed in to the Radio 1 website and found the stuff I'd pressed the love button on and found a lot of old Chris Moyles show videos that still play. Is the Chris Moyles Show page still accessible on the website somewhere?

Well look, I agree the site is clearly awful, but then in 1997 what websites actually looked good by today's standards? The biggest crime of all is this:
please bare with us in the mean-time

* off, Radio 1!

Wow, that makes me so nostalgic... Mainly because that version (is it the first version?) of the Radio 1 website was one of the first sites I ever frequented. We didn't have internet at home at the time, but I used to go online in my dad's office and would also visit a computer lab after hours where Mum was taking an IT course. She'd let me mess around on Netscape for an hour while she got some work done.

I remember one occasion is particular in 1996 when I visited the Mark & Lard page, only for the sound of their show's intro at the time to start blasting out of the speakers, which I turned off in haste. Ah, unexpected sound files... And frames (oh dear Lord, the frames)... I can't remember what it actually was - only that it was an embarrassing thing to start randomly playing in a computer lab with strangers. Actually it may have been 1997 - possibly the ill-fate breakfast show.

And Topher's right... the contemporary look of the website is fine; it's the lack of English skills that cannot be excused.

Actually, I recall quite liking the design of the pages back then. But I was in my mid-teens, so I guess lots of black and a bit of red appealed a bit more at the time.
