I heard the news today that Mary Anne Hobbs is getting the early morning slot at weekends on 6Music, and it made me wonder where other Radio 1 DJs have turned up!

Here's the ones I can think of.

Mark and Lard - 6Music (separate shows at different timeslots)
Nemone - 6Music
Jo Whiley - Radio 2
Colin Murray/Chappers - Both switched to TV careers
Gilles Peterson - 6Music
Steve Lamacq - 6Music
Liz Kershaw - 6Music

Wow, looking at this list...a lot of them end up at 6Music! :D

Can anyone think of any more?

Simon Bates and Mark Goodier on Smooth, and Mark Goodier does some stuff on Radio 2 as well. He will forever be the voice of the charts to me. Oh and Sara Cox to R2 - I forget if she's moving there permanently or still working for both 1 and 2.

There's maybe a few old radio one DJs whose next station maybe Radio Parkhurst or Strangeways FM.

I believe she will be moving to Radio 2 permanently once she is done filling in for Fearne while she is away on maternity leave! Could be wrong though.

I heard Sara's shows when she covered for Ken Bruce over Christmas break. I thought she did a good job. Based on what other R2 stuff I've listened too (admittedly not a lot), I think she'd fit right into the channel. On the other hand, as I was listening to her I kept thinking to myself, I don't see Chris doing this kind of thing. So I'm not so sure he'd be such a good fit there. It's a bit stuffy and that's something Chris is not.

Has Adam Buxton now gone then? Bloody hell that didn't last long

Adam (and Joe before him) seem to only do 6 shows or so at a time

Bloody hell at least he would have made that show at least half enjoyable, not a fan of Bowman at all

Badger Mark wrote:Simon Mayo to R2 (and 5Live if you count the movie show with Mark Kermode).

Mark Kermode would also count as a R1 alumnus. In addition to being the station film critic for most of the 90s (which saw him popping up on the main shows - including Simon's - to review films), I remember him co-hosting a weekly evening show with Mary Anne Hobbs called Clingfilm around 1995/6.

I loved it, because in addition to film reviews, news and reports/features about the industry, with it being R1 they would also play records, usually from soundtracks. And that could include a song from a film you'd be seeing on the telly that evening! It was great, and such a shame there's been nothing like it on R1 since.

I listened to Mary Anne Hobbs' first breakfast show the other day, it was very good! She has a lovely soft radio voice. You should give it a listen!

No, 6Music DJs play a mixture of music. They play some playlist tunes, but sprinkle in 'free plays' which the DJ can pick themselves. Makes a lovely change from Radio 1's chart garbage!

Absolutely, that's what I like about the station, they play decent new music & also some ecclectic stuff, Keaveny and Radcliffe & Maconie are exceptionally brilliant on there.

Heard Mary Anne Hobbs on Saturday & like Nemone she has a lovely soothing voice in the morning, Gemma on Radio 1 is like sticking a giant knitting needle in my ears whilst drinking a pint of Domestos

Shaun Keaveney & Radcliffe & Maconie are the best things on 6music.

The downside of the station being its smugness. The trailers are particularly appalling .

I heard Mary Anne Hobbs for the first time yesterday & enjoyed her, but unhappily caught Edith Bowman after & thought I'd tuned into a small BBC local station, which was a great pity as I usually don't mind Edith.

Chris Hawkins isn't bad if you can get over the Quasimodo tongue & the fact that somehow a butt fugly mutant like him can not only pull, but also impregnate the lovely Claire Nasir, there truly is no justice in the world. I really do like his show though it's damn near perfect for its time slot.

Even laying aside Lauren Laverne & Steve Lamaqc - see above for smugness - of the music they play I actually genuinely like about fifty percent of it, which is an astonishingly high hit rate for any music station to a fussy bastard like me.
And when they do hit the bulls eye, like yesterday when Neil Young's 'Like a Hurricane' was played in full, I had to find somewhere in work to sit by myself & listen to one of he best rock songs ever written , in peace. When was the last time, if ever, that you wanted to do that while listening to Radio1 ?

And I still laugh about Keaveney playing Mountain's full glorious 6 minutes of 'Nantucket Sleighride' a few months ago over the vociferous & loud protests of his producer about doing so.
