Can't see it happening. YouTube stuff is too niche.

I wouldn't mind £150k a year.

But in your previous job did you earn 1+ mill?

To get 150k on youtube you would have to be the most popular channel on one of the most popular websites in the world!

I didn't say I wanted to do anything for it. Personally I think it should be given to me for nothing.

Don't forget the rewind has no external advertising, and was taken off iTunes by Big Boss Chris because it was the number 1 in the charts & (I think) got noticed by the BBC.

Those figures are two years out of date. I think the numbers those channels I mentioned are quite a bit higher than that.

And remember, no setup, no bandwidth costs, no paywall, even if he makes only 100k a year from it (I'm sure he'd make a lot more) it would cost him practically nothing to setup other than a few tweets to his followers.

Given the quality of content Chris would be putting out there (as well as his limitations in how much he can put out), I doubt he would garner hundreds of thousands of views.

If we use Psy - Gangnam Style as a case study, he has earned ~$870,000 from advertising on his channel from ~880,000,000 views for Gangnam Style (plus ~300,000,000 views for other videos). This means $1 of revenue (for Chris himself) requires 1494 views.

To make £100k, he would need a total of 240,758,100 views in 1 year.

Even if he made 1 video a week in 2013, he would need to average of 4.6m views per video.

Given that he only has his twitter as an advertising platform (and has just under 3m followers), it would require a 100% success rate via twitter, whilst also picking up an extra 50% virally (impossible stats from a marketing perspective). Not to mention any external contributors to the content.

You used to be able to make a lot of money through YouTube, but that changed quite recently. That would be more of an opportunity for incremental revenue, not a primary revenue stream.

When Chris left radio, I said he should do a podcast. Radio is dead. Podcasts are the future.

Right now, you have to be one of the top 2 or 3 podcasters to make serious money. The No.1 podcaster (Adam Carolla) pulls in $1m to $2m a year in ads alone. That's serious money.
The Chris Moyles Show (crap) weekly podcast had more subscribers (per show) than Adam.

There should be no paywall. Successful podcasts are not subscription-based, they are ad-supported and make much more that way.

The great thing about podcasts is that you get all the benefits of a radio show with few of the downsides. The setup costs are basically zero (you need a microphone, headphones and a computer) and all you pay for is bandwidth.
With a single sponsor, you can cover bandwidth costs and build up advertisers as you go along, or of you're an established personality like Chris, one big sponsor may cover costs and pay a salary and the listener benefits from not having a shit-ton of ads to sit through.

An interesting article about Apple's new Podcast app and how they're trying to take the money out of the podcast owners' pockets - http://www.datamation.com/feature/how-a ... ing-1.html

Because I'm a Carolla fan and an early adopter of podcasts + interested in the business side, I do keep track of where the money is going and how much there is of it.
Marc Maron also makes a reasonable amount of cash with his podcast. Not as much as Carolla.

"Very popular" in the podcast world means 500,000 downloads per show. Carolla does about 500k x 5 days per week. Maron does about 600k x 2 days per week. Carolla makes more money because he's doing 1.5 hours a day, every day (as did Chris, minus the music).

Recently, the biggest name in U.S. radio distribution created a company with the one of the biggest names in digital advertising. They have created a company to essentially broker advertising. Just about all the big names have signed up and this will make it easier for the popular (U.S.) podcasts to get ad revenue:

http://www.launchpaddigitalmedia.com/f/Programming

The first big U.S. podcasts took off in 2009 (the Ricky Gervais Podcasts were a bit of an anomaly) and it took at least a year for podcasting to be taken seriously by advertisers. I think it will take a while for the UK to catch up, but it will.

RE: The article, "Under the current system, a podcast content creator can make money from ads, but Apple gets nothing, even when it’s downloaded via the iTunes store." is misleading bullshit. It implies (and this is a common belief) that "every podcast is downloaded from iTunes". That's garbage. Every podcaster has to set up an RSS server and delivers the podcast from that server, which they pay for.
Apple is not out of pocket in any way apart from serving small amounts of text and images in the podcast section of the iTunes store. Apple don't serve the actual podcasts.
That is a good point about the 30 second skip though. I wonder if Apple are that nefarious. They do have form.

I would be happy with a podcast with advertising but only at the start and end of the show, similar to the Ten Minute Podcast but I would hope it would be an hour or more a week. He could talk and only play music if he wants. He was great on radio, although I just want him back.

If it did happen (and I do think it's just The Sun making it up at the moment), it should really be a daily show unless Chris has another job to do (JCS doesn't count as a "real" job). 1 to 2 hours a day, please! * the music.
To do that much output, he would need a team around him, really.

I would much prefer a daily show, I just thought of him doing a weekly as the money wouldn't be there. However, if he could get tens of thousands or millions listening, the advertising would probably pay him nicely. Hoping for some kind of new material from him. I am enjoying listening to the daily replay and now also listening to the whole month of December 2005 shows. December 1st they were still in New York and it seems that is when Chris started irking Dave with "Cousin Brucie, the boy from New York City".

I know before you all say it is just another rumour... perhaps?

Are we looking at maybe a podcast show from Chris? I do hope so... Moyles Media for a new Radio Show?

I know its another "IF"!

I do hope it is true! Would love to have a Daily Moyles "fresh" show to listen to.... (already smashing my download allowance with the replay shows from here!!)

Hurry Chris!!!
