I'm helping my mum with her family tree scrapbook (penance for her helping me with the Moyles one!) and just printing out the story of my great-aunt Lola, who was wrongly certified insane after an undiagnosed brain injury, sent away in secrecy to a mental institution, died there and was buried in a pauper's grave. It's such a sad story, has made me a bit emotional.

Try not to worry, things have a habbit of working themselves out, and either way, what you will loose is only money and possessions, people and love are what are most important.

What he said. Easier said than done though, money can be right stressful, I hate the stuff.

I think the National Debtline gives free impartial advice, may be worth a try?

Edit: Martin Lewis is always worth a look too if they haven't looked yet: http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/loans/debt-help-plan

It is very scary. When I was 11, my parents sold a business at a massive loss, were in tons of debt and at risk of losing the house. I was very aware of it even at that age as they were having to buy us second-hand clothes and sell the car. But yeah, there is plenty of advice out there. Citizens Advice is another good place to start.

My late dad & his brother traced our surname through the male line back from Saaf Lahnndahn ( he was a Londoner) to Northants in the 1700s then back to Gloucestershire in the 1600s & finally could go no farther back than a small Welsh hamlet outside Abergavenny in 1480. Co-incidentally for 7 years i lived only about 8 miles from that hamlet back in the late 80s & early 90s.

Yeah, my dad is a family history researcher - well, he still works his main job but is close to retirement age, so the genealogy thing will be his main business in a few years. He does really well out of it, since that Who Do You Think You Are tv show there's been a real resurgence in people wanting to research their family tree.

My mum's mum had I think ten siblings, and almost all of them have a fascinating story. Two were adpoted by Barnardo's, and one of those was sent to Australia at age 16 - we only traced him in the 1980s. One jumped ship while in the Navy and started a new life in the States - he went on to write and illustrate for pulp fiction magazines, and had bit-parts in Western movies. We traced his son just a few years back - my mum is going over to Philadelphia to visit her new-found cousin next week.

I'm not sure how many generations back we traced our family - I'm interested in it up to a point, but sometimes they talk about it constantly and I just glaze over. I know that on my paternal grandmother's side I'm related to the Mormons in Salt Lake City, and on my maternal grandmother's side I have Jewish heritage. I felt a weird affinity with Jewish culture for quite a while before I found that out.

Funnily enough, my sister married an Israeli & has lived in Tel Aviv for 20 years, & when doing the research my Da & uncle found out that their mother's nan was Jewish, a fact they never knew.. 8O

We've been over this before - My job, in laymans terms, is to make 3D models of things, some far more complex than others (say, an MRI scanner V's a light switch). So, i do my thing, for anything from 1 minute to sometimes 4-5 hours, but, when I have completed my lovely model I have to use another programme to scan said model into a 'holding porgramme', now this can take anything from 1 to sometimes 20-30 minutes. Its at these times, assuming my cup o tea is full and my bladder is empty, I shall pop online (and annoy you lot) whilst I keep an eye on the progress bar running in the corner of my screen...

And although I was moaning about the lack of ability to stream Moyles live, I was also struggling to use internet for official work use (which I do a lot - sometimes i'm asked to model something, I have no idea what it is!! Had one the other day, a 'Bowl Dolly' - turns out its some wheels for comercial catering food mixer bowls - google images it, like I did).

I can't raise my spirits. Everything seems difficult, complicated and stressful. I need something to be straightforward. I need some good news.

Or a large vodka.

Nisbetts do good Bowl Dollies.

We used to call them wheels.

You don't want to get hot fudge on your castors I can tell you!

Oh and Tim with regard to the joke about working...... You shouldn't give a flying * what anyone things about your work ethic, it's irrelevant to all but you and the person who pays you.

I don't care what anyone things about it.

Innit, despite input on here, my productivity is nearly twice that of those sat around me. So, no guilt.
