You are a disgrace and I'm looking forward to when someone you respect dies so I can rub your liberal face in it.

It's such a sad story, has made me a bit emotional.

Nicola_Red wrote:Yeah, my dad is a family history researcher - well, he still works his main job but is close to retirement age, so the genealogy thing will be his main business in a few years. He does really well out of it, since that Who Do You Think You Are tv show there's been a real resurgence in people wanting to research their family tree.
My mum's mum had I think ten siblings, and almost all of them have a fascinating story. Two were adpoted by Barnardo's, and one of those was sent to Australia at age 16 - we only traced him in the 1980s. One jumped ship while in the Navy and started a new life in the States - he went on to write and illustrate for pulp fiction magazines, and had bit-parts in Western movies. We traced his son just a few years back - my mum is going over to Philadelphia to visit her new-found cousin next week.
I'm not sure how many generations back we traced our family - I'm interested in it up to a point, but sometimes they talk about it constantly and I just glaze over. I know that on my paternal grandmother's side I'm related to the Mormons in Salt Lake City, and on my maternal grandmother's side I have Jewish heritage. I felt a weird affinity with Jewish culture for quite a while before I found that out.
