Its not Costa that need to show the loyalty though. The problem is not that Costa want to move in, its that the local authority, rather than put the interests of the local traders and the local community first have allowed permission for this damaging move to happen.

Admittedly I don't really understand how that stuff works. I don't know how much power local authorities have to allow or stop businesses from setting up and why they would make the decision.

Unless you go to Totnes, you probably wont understand.

Its nearly all independent shops and hippies. Costa just isnt right for the town

The council can suck my balls too...

Yeah, perhaps not. I'm a city girl and expect a Starbucks on every street corner :)

From my experience, and I shouldn't say this, its a bit of a naughty grey area. Back handers would seem to help. A lot. Costa have enough £'s to throw around. Slip a key individual £10,000 - store location agreed. * the small businesses, someones off to Barbados!

Soz DD, I feel ya pain, ruddy twisted system.

Yeah, that wouldn't surprise me. Two new Tesco Express stores have opened this year on Oxford Road, which is the student district here, within a 10min walk of each other - it seems kinda pointless. I do wonder why Tesco get such a monopoly.

We will soon have three Tesco stores in my town, within 3 miles of each other.

To be fair, where I live we have 3 Co-Op's all within 0.7 miles of each other... And in Enderby (south Leices, yoof) they have 2 Co-Op's on either side of a road - now thats pointless...

We have 4 Tesco stores in Bracknell and another just on the outskirts. I wouldn't mind but their food is crap and the stores are poorly presented.

Asda > all the other supermarkets.

Asda is an evil huge corporate too, what with being owned by Wal-Mart. We do shop there because it's cheaper than the rest and that is a key issue at the moment, but I'd love to give business to smaller independents.

Co-Op is nearest to where I live, and I do like them even though their range is small. Their fairtrade vegan peppermint creams are AMAZING. And the store is small enough to keep long opening hours, til 11pm even on a Sunday. But we do our main shopping at Tesco online - living in the city centre and not driving, we can't really go to a big supermarket and do a proper shop.

Yeah, but they are cheap and do the best 'own brand' food (Asda curries are the bestestest ever non-T.A.W. curry).

I'm ok with huge evil corporations, if they do good curry. Hmmmok.

Plus, one of the 'girl bullies' from when I was at school is now a store manager at my local store. I like to go in and see her, makes me feel better about myself knowing her smoking at 12 and yo-yo knickers only got her so far in life... Hi Alison, if you're reading this! 8)

Nice slut-shaming there. Wonder how far my 'yo-yo knickers' will get me...?

Well Alison is apparently a manager of a large supermarket. She could be doing a lot worse...

Meh... she was one of the 'bad girls' at school who certainly gave me a hard enough time and made me miserable enough on occasion. What goes round comes round, my turn to 'feel' superior (not saying I am, but I can feel it...). No problem with slutty behavior, but it was one of her main character traits so I remember her as such.

That's fine, I totally empathise with people at school giving you a hard time - I was called 'cripple' by some boys and it hurt a lot. I just object to that notion of girls being criticised cos they sleep with a lot of people!

Now, now Nic - we've had this out before. Allow me to go over it again.

A man who has slept with 50 girls is a hero.

A girl who has slept with 50 men is a slag.

Why?

If a man goes out and asks 50 girls for sex, he gets 50 slaps.

If I woman goes out and asks 50 men for sex she gets a queue.

Simples.

We can WANT sex till the cows come home - we inevitably end up going home and having 'lightsabre practise with Captain Solo'.

You WANT sex, go get it, will take you 5 mins max.

But just cos it's easy for a woman to get sex, why should she be criticised for doing it? I don't understand this reasoning at all.

Now now, that's a bit unfair, I do have some personal standards. Plus if you're rubbish the first time, the next 49 won't be happening.
