One of the last sentences from that article really sum it up for me:

Thanks Chris and the team, you’re show was more than just a show on the radio, it was part of my life.

A shame he got his 'your' and 'you're' mixed up...

But yeah, someone else linked to that article on twitter so I read it either yesterday or the day before, it was very sweet. Especially after that awful snarky Vice article.

Nice article someone has written and I just thought others might like it.

Wow. I really hope Chris reads that.

I've just read this and it bought a tear to my eye. Really thoughtfully read and in places said just what I was thinking. How refreshing to read something positive!

Just realised half of what I've just written doesn't actually make sense! I think you get the idea!

Apologies if this has already been discussed, but was the Moyles show axed or did he decide to call it a day?

When he made the announcement I just assumed he'd had enough, or too many other non R1 commitments and decided that now was the right time to go. But the more I think about it, and the more bias reports I read it seems liked the show was axed.

I know no I e really knows for sure, buts what's peoples opinions?

Probably a mutual thing in my opinion. Chris isn't stupid and probably knew he was on borrowed time after the BBC trust report so decided to go out on his on terms.

I think he jumped but with a slight talking of a threat of pushing involved. From what he's said on air I'd make out that he was accepting of the fact he was going from breakfast but wanted to stay till the end of the year.

That was the line that did it for me as well. Saw this article on Twitter and was so happy to have a positive perspective out there! Hope more people write them in the next couple of months.

That gets to me a tad. How can a man with 8 million listeners get soo much hatred from people?
But on the other hand. Chris Evans has 9+ million listeners and he's ruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuubish. Ken Bruce is good though. I like his pop quiz.

This article made me think about this a bit:

http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sh ... ve-me.html

Especially the bit about BBC chiefs vetoeing the idea of plugging JCS.

Moyles and the team once spoke of doing a musical about their show - well, he's certainly rubbing shoulders with the right man, and it would be a (unlikely) dream come true.

As for the leaving business, I like to think Moyles knew what he was doing and didn't think *shit* 'What have I done?!'

"Beeb bosses wanted Moyles to take leave for his tour dates, which include several weekdays in September and October. Finally they agreed to end his run as Radio 1’s longest-serving breakfast DJ before the show opens. "

'Finally they agreed'? - Thats the bit that confuses me, cos there'll be lots of different BBC authority besides Rhys and Ben.

My best guess is that he knew sooner or later it was to be the end, and stopped putting up a fight. I would like to think that all of us, on here, within the team and he himself decided now was the right time.

Its like they say with successful sitcoms - leave 'em wanting more.

I think he was pushed, but in the sense of someone hesitating by the open door of a plane they had hired to do their first parachute jump.

On that Guardian Media podcast I listened to they definitely suggested that he was pushed. One of the contributors mentioned that he knew Andy Parfitt and he once said 'I can't kill my children', and Ben Cooper has been given the role to do exactly that, because he's not finished with the changes at R1 yet.

Ben may well have more in store with his task of lowering the average listener age but I really wish him well and hope history doesnt repeat itself in terms of doing a "Bannister".

One of the upsides of Chris quitting is that we won't have to read someone refer to him as "motor mouth" anymore.

Until he does his new show then it starts again.

The bit that doesn't sit well with me is when he goes 'When I started the breakfast show, I always wanted to do it for 10 years.....'.

If he had decided 100% on his own to call it a day, why would be put that in his leavers announcement?

Just seems a bit odd to me. :(

Maybe his dream was to do ten years, but after thinking about it, he decided now was a good time to call it a day, not in 18 months if the show continues to deteriorate in quality the way it has done recently.

I don't think Chris should/would of been too surprised at that after the two books and the album, the latter only being heard on the show during the MP3 shuffle game!

I think the tour has given Ben the opportunity to make the change now, the summer is the weakest time for ratings so he's giving Nick Grimshaw the lowest base possible to start from in an attempt to avoid too many Danny Baker style headlines (after he took over from DLT). That said I hope it turns in to a late surge as everyone tunes in to hear the last two months of the show.

I am increasingly worried that we may not hear Chris again on R1 and that the negotiations over the new show may turn in to negotiations on how much of a settlement is needed to end the contract early.

I did that this morning when I was listening to the pub quiz on a 2010 show. Realised that soon I won't be walking round my bedroom putting clothes and jewellery on going "QUIZ!" "PO CHICKEN!" "DABIDOZE!" etc to myself. So ridiculous, and yet so sad.
