The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues

I'd been expecting the announcement for a while, in fact even thought I'd heard rumours about it before and had it in my head he was going to tell us this Friday.

Listening between the lines, agree, you can break it down, and almost hear the meeting where he probably had a bit/lot of a strop...You must play more music, you must back up our playlists, it's not all about you, you are not the tail that wags the dog of Radio 1..... etc. etc. I would love to have been a fly on the wall in that meeting.

There have been little signs too, like taking off the "send a message from the webpage", playing music before 7am 8O ,

Ben Coopers recorded speech was so fake and corporate.

Am also wondering if Matt Fincham had wind of this, and being a new BBC boy jumped into the corporate side, before he was seen to be in the Moyles' Gang and ousted for having "independent thoughts".

This is the only show ever, that has made getting up at 6.30 a pleasure. (PS Way out of their target age at 51 :D ).

And I love Dom, sexy voice, such a straight man, crap meteorologist, but always had a twinkle and a great sense of humour.

Saying all the above, I can also remember thinking that Breakfast Radio would never be the same when Noel Edmonds packed up in the late 70's. :D

Aled has confirmed in the Ask Aled section that the messaging from the website was removed because it could be controlled in a good manner.

Are you being sarcastic? That's one of Dave's biggest claims to fame! It happened when he used to work on R1 in an off air role, but they've talked about it on the show numerous times. It's one of my favourite Dave stories, and there are a lot of them. :D

Oh, he mentions it in his book. But no, I wasn't being sarcastic. My brain just isn't functioning properly.

Loved Moyles in the afternoon, but when he moved to breakfast, the show just became something more. Dom (a huge part of the success), Dave, Aled, Carrie (and then later Tina) have become a part of every day life, more than just a radio show. They are there every morning. They are all consistantly funny. There are running jokes, and features that just always seem to work. No more Dominic The Donkey? No more Roy? No more Mcfly Day? No more "ALED. Coming up today on Radio 1..." so much stuff we will miss. The jingles, the songs, the parodies. The team. If they do get a different show/timeslot, I hope the whole team stick together. They are all essential. I'm going to make the most of the next two months. It's weird I was just thinking last week when they said Moyles was going to be Herod, how would that work with the breakfast show, but never thought it would be like this.

Good luck to the team, and thanks for all the excellent radio over the years

I suspected you weren't, but just wanted to check in case I was being a moron in the usual sense of the word. And you're right, Chris does mention it in his book.

Yeah, read that....a bit like our work having a twitter and facebook page, but access to those sites are banned from works PC's.

Was particularly gutted as it stopped me getting mentions on Rob DJ's quiz, my £9.99 PC World Flintstone Phone was just not quick enough on texts (I did know the internal angles of a hexagon totalled 720 degrees though - think patchwork quilts or honeycombs 8) ).

Just a thought, Chris is a big radio geek, maybe he has every show?

When he leaves we should ask him for all his clips :D

That's already been covered with Aled. We've yet to.ascertain whether he can seriously give us the shows. But I think we have every breakfast show anyway, just not all uploaded yet.

Super sad news.

Its nice to see so many people feel the same way, makes you feel a bit better about feeling as so many people have said "gutted".

Will miss the show a huge amount, fingers crossed there will be some sort of show with Chris (and hopefully some/all the team) somewhere on a national station.

This has all been said by everyone already but just thought I should add to it, as the show is/was a big part of my day, gonna need to get me some hobbies!

Doubt the team will ever read this but just in case... thanks for all the good times. Love you... you're amazing ("constipated" Billie Piper clip, yes? No? Anyone? Just me?)

Another long time lurker, new joiner (sorry left it a bit late really)

I heard Chris' first show on R1 in 1997 and I've been a fan ever since. Within weeks of listening to the early bit I was convinced that he was future breakfast show material and when he stood in for Kev (RIP) & Zoe he was fantastic AND natural - a quality that's sorely lacking with the newer talent within R1 these days IMO.

Today's news was a shock, but not a total surprise. It's a shame he won't get to 10 years but there seems to be this annoying obsession with age within the BBC, it's likely that Chris' 8 1/2 year record won't get beaten as a result.

I don't want to listen to Radio 2 yet, I don't want to listen to radio stations where the music and banter is constantly interrupted by annoying adverts or weather / travel brought to you in association with XYZ...

Yep, I'm too old for Radio 1's target audience... so what? - I enjoy the music and I start my day having been entertained. I pay a licence fee so why shouldn't I be?

I wish Grimmy well - he's got a massive task ahead of him, I certainly wouldn't want to be the one to follow Chris. I keep thinking of when Simon Mayo left breakfast, Steve Wright wouldn't take over straight away so in came Mark Goodier for a few months, could this be a repeat scenario here??? (see, I'm definately too old for the target audience!)

I'll miss the banter, the golden hour (and those wonderful old jingles - no one else will ever acknowledge Radio 1's history like Chris does) Dave's adding up and so much more. Christmas run-up will never be the same without the festive jingles, even the Christmassy bed music.

One of the delights of the internet and modern technology is the vast amount of podcasts and of course the huge archive that exists here, which is accessible for everyone for years to come, and after 8 1/2 years there's plenty of Moyles to listen and remind ourselves of what we had.

What's interesting is where he's going to fit in the schedules after breakfast - will they move Greg or Scott so soon? - They'll never move the token female unless she shifts to breakfast. Otherwise it's evenings or the dreaded weekend slot (departure lounge!)

The only positive for me is that (so far) Greg James has been left on drive, everyone seems to rate him as the next big thing (ChrisJames especially) I find him about as funny as a fire in an orphanage and God help us all if he ever gets let loose on breakfast.

Sad day :(

Andy.

For the first time in ages I didn't hear any of the show today, and I've been out all day so unusually haven't been in a position to hear/read the news, but... Holy crap! I picked a pretty major one to miss.
It will be sad in a way, because I've listened to the show ever since the start(I remember listening to the very beginning of the first Chris Moyles Breakfast Show on 5/1/2004 and the opening link, I think they were talking about Aled's food poisoning and ripping into him about it). The show has become so much a part of my day over such a long time that losing it will take a LOT of getting used to and I'll miss it like crazy, particularly in the run-up to Xmas.
However, as has been said already, the show had begun to get pretty "tired" and had lost a lot of the quality which made it exceptional in the first place, and bringing it to a natural close now, with good vibes still going on and good memories still being made, is really the best way.
Also, 2 things which make it easier to deal with for me: (1) Chris will almost certainly be staying on at Radio 1, and (2) Grimmy will be taking over the Breakfast Show. I said recently that apart from Sara Cox, Grimmy was the only obvious choice in my opinion to take over from Chris - I'm glad that he will, and thanking f*ck that Greg James won't!

This morning they mentioned that the whole team all went out for dinner yesterday, that plus it being said that they were all in a meeting on Tuesday leads me to think this was only decided this week.

Plus, Roy not saying anything about it on CPC.

Yes, cos they would have pre-recorded pieces of audio of Roy giving away that the show was ending. OH NO WAIT OF COURSE THEY WOULDN'T.

Just the way people are talking it's like he did something that led to him leaving the show or he pissed someone off?

Easy sailor, they were just putting a thought out there. Rein it in a tad.
Nothing like making someone feel stupid just for them making an observation.
