You really think that was connected? I just thought he was updating his pic as he's lost so much weight...

I've just been thinking about what this means for some of the other people involved with the show. What will Andi Peters do now?? I am convinced he sits by the phone during every show just on the off chance Chris calls him live on air. What will become of Roy Walker? The gin he loves so much will not taste as sweet without being on CPC.

I think there's a hint in what has been going on in the announcement... what does he say at the very end? Something along the lines of "now lets do what this show is ment to do, and play music".

To me, that is definitely a little 'dig' at someone, because we all know that the CMS is NOT about playing music.

I agree, that's definitely a dig at the changes in Radio 1.

Just coz of the timing I spose.

Just read on Guardian Cooper says "We might surprise people" coz they're gonna "reinvent" Chris before he really does leave the station. Should be interesting I think I'd like him to do a late-night show, that would be fun. But we'll see.

I honestly think you're reading too much into that! But who knows.

Anyway. The piece from today's Richard Bacon show on 5 Live including the interview with Ben Cooper is now in the vault:

The music issue with the Moyles show is bugging me a bit. As Aled has said quite a few times, they used to play more music on the show than they do now and it used to be great radio.

Playing more music doesn't necessarily lessen the quality of the show (if you like the music). I LOVE the Sara Cox show on a Sunday morning and she plays loads of music. The difference is that she makes the most of her shorter links. If I am honest, the Moyles show could have been better in recent months with or without any perceived increase in music.

I listen to other really entertaining radio shows that have far, far more interruptions than the Moyles show of the past six months or so (the period when most accept it hasn't been as good). The reason the show hasnt been as good recently has nothing to do with more music.

As good as it is/was, I've never really taken to the breakfast show in the same way that I did to Afternoon/Early Breakfast. I've only really listened on and off for the last few years (and I only started listening again this week because of new working hours) but maybe it is time for a slight change - I can see Moyles doing weekends again in the short term (and I used to love how the Saturday show had a different feel to weekdays), but I'm really looking forward to see what he will do next. And Dave.

I wonder if CM will end up on R2 and follow the pattern. Despite his reputation, he clearly DOES LIKE MUSIC but doesn't like having to play whatever's in the chart this week, and liking music doesn't mean you have to play it all the time.

I'm fairly sure CM loves radio period*. So I hope he'll stick around that medium in some way - a weekend show or R2 or a podcast or who knows what - because frankly he's OK at TV but great at radio.

A few people mentioned a podcast and how it might not generate much income. But you're forgetting what a fanbase CM has built over the last 10+ years. Twitter campaigns and charity events just show how much weight he can carry* so I'd love a weekly podcast or summat.

Haha I wouldn't say I'm of sound mind today, a bit blurred. The way I'm thinking at the moment I probably believe it was the Moyles news that just crashed the entire BBC website. 8-O

If you listen to the older shows, this is definitely the case since there was more music played in the early years of the breakfast show and I think back then, the playlist was far worse in terms of certain songs getting played to death mainly because the variety of genres was smaller back then, as it is now in a way! But the links in between back then, were for the most part entertaining and I could probably count on one hand the number that have been entertaining this year. I do admit last Tuesday's show (not yesterday) was the best show in a good while!

One of the main reasons why the show hasn't been as good especially over the last month is the Olympic Torch relay stuff! It seemed like half the show was dedicated to this and not everyone out there is going to love it and I got bored of it after a week or so! I know it has to be done but getting it shoved down our throats bothers me! No new features were brought in as far as I can tell and old ones were phased out maybe because of this occurring but Tedious Link seemed to be going a fair few months before though!

I hope that the last few months reignites my love of the current show because I've preferred listening to the 04-05 shows more than the current product for a good while now!

Well, I'm late to the party, but I had to say my part! I heard the announcement as I was driving to work this morning, I was a wee bit shocked! I kept waiting for Chris to say it was only a joke...but alas, that wasn't the case.

I've been listening to the Breakfast Show since about 2004/2005, back when I was still at university, so the show was a big thing for me!

I'll miss it, but everything has to end eventually, glad he decided to end it on his own terms, at least. :D

The BBC have just Tweeted that it's back online after a 'major technical issue'. Rumours that Comedy Dave is involved in shutting down another part of the BBC are not true.

Dave's been very quiet on the issue. How long do you reckon the rest of the team knew about the show ending? I'd guess the decision was made after the BBC trust report.

I Just wanna echo most of what's been said on here today. I always knew I would hate the day I found out the show is stopping, but its taken the announcement to show me just how much. Its surprised me how gutted I actually am, I've been thinking about it all day and find myself getting more and more depressed by it!

This next couple of months is gonna be like the last few months of school with your froup of friends. You know its ending soon, you know the last day is gonna be a hell of a ride for your emotions, you know you're gonna see some of them again, but you don't know when and if it will be quite the same.

Sad sad day. I've grown up with the team and like so many here, I want to say a MASSIVE thankyou to Chris and the team(past and present) for bringing fun and happyness through all my good and bad times!

I have to say im truly gutted by this news!

Its taken me a while to get used to listening in the evening (As ive just moved to New Zealand) So to hear the news at 7pm via my twitter feed last night truly shocked me! (what a day to miss the show live huh!)
I was that devastated I couldnt sleep last night, I was on the site listening to the first show and lol'd at how long the opening intro to the very first breakfast show was!!

I echo many on here hoping that Chris Dave and Dom get together and do soemthing else, Dom always cracks me up and I feel should have more time on air!

Im not sure how many think that in the last week of the show they should bring all the old features back for one last outing, buzz off and such! I hope they have a guest every few minutes to say goodbye, true fans like Davina who will just go in and hang around, not the ones that want to be there to be part of the final show.
Juliette and Carrie should come back to do some guest sports news reading too! Electric shock game, 2 word tango, where am I....

Ive listened to the Chris since 1999, he's the only reason Ive listened to Radio 1 for such a long time as im not a huge fan of the type of music they play but his style and talking just about everyday life really appealed to me.
As for radio 1's target audience I pass the 30 mark in Jan so I suppose them getting the young cools kids listening is working as I will be switching off from september.

I have to say though I do find Dev on the early breakfast show very good, I will still listen to him but that will be it now.

As for Nick Grimshaw... Good luck to him, i listened to the 2/3 weeks he did covering for Scott/Greg Just before i moved to NZ, have to say he wasnt too bad. The call or delete feature was pretty cool and he has got better since he first started at radio 1.

Sorry ive been rambling and sorry if this doesnt make sense but I really am truly gutted.

I am gutted. This show got me through my paper round and made getting up for High School and college much easier. The show has had many great moments and is weird knowing that it all comes to an end in 2 months. The best of highlights they do will be fantastic and I hope they are being worked on as we speak.

The decision to end it now though and his replacement all makes sense. I do love the show but I think 2 years more of the current quality would have probably turned me off so I am glad it is ending with me still somewhat happy with it.

Grimmy is someone that will shed the older listeners without too much trouble, I imagine he would be huge with teenage girls. Seems like a nice guy but his show will not be for me. I will probably stop listening to Radio 1 after Chris' last show depending on what Chris does next as I loathe 90% of the music the station plays and it shows no sign of improving which is a shame as at 22 I should be enjoying it.

Total bollocks!

He's got great form - taking radio 1 off the air.

And I hope he does so again in Sept for a giggle.

Are you being sarcastic? That's one of Dave's biggest claims to fame! It happened when he used to work on R1 in an off air role, but they've talked about it on the show numerous times. It's one of my favourite Dave stories, and there are a lot of them. :D
