I save the mpeg audio stream using my wavefinder, then decompress it to wav using CDEX, then edit using Sound Forge 4.5 (I want version 5).

If you want a really good piece of software then try and get Cool Edit Pro.
This is what I use.
I believe it is the most professional audio editing program you can find.
They use it at Radio 1 to make jingles, sweepers, trails etc and is very popular in most other large stations.
It is made by Syntrillium but does cost around £300 to buy!!! 8O
There is a demo version on their website http://www.syntrillium.com

You might be able to find a download on Morpheus or other file shareing program.

Hope this helps

maybe i'm just retarded, but all of my sound engineering friends, especially those in radio, use protools. in fact, that's what we use at our radio station for promos and the like. that's all i know though.

I use a program called "Absolute MP3 Recorder" which can be set up to record at a preset time each day straight to MP3. I've got a TV/Radio card in my PC so I set up the program to record the line-in of my program from 3-5.45pm each day. Normally I use 56kps in mono, since reception of Radio 1 is very good in my area.

To edit and submit clips to MoylesWorld (under my real name Andrew Edmonds) I use CoolEdit 2000. CoolEdit 2000 can also load/save MP3s and is much cheaper than CoolEdit Pro.

Hope this helps!

Just really to echo what most other people have said; I use Sound Forge 5 at home, which is a great piece of software. It'll do all of the basic things plus most of the advanced stuff aswell.

At work, we use Cool Edit Pro. It's been summed up pretty well already in previous replies, but just to re-itterate, it's easy to use, does pretty much whatever you could want it to and is generally a great piece of software. If you want it multi-track but only have Cool Edit 2000 you have to get the studio plug-in for that seperatly (but it's not worth if if you don't really need it).

Another one worth considering is a very competent multi-track editor called Software Audio Workshop. It's been ages since I've used it, but it's still on the go, it's easy to use, and, like pretty much all the other professional editing programmes on the market, does most of the jobs you would ever want it to.

Hope that helps.
