Is the purpose of these kinds of fine to cover costs associated with the case, or to punish the perpetrator financially?

Surely using financial penalties as a form of punishment would then need to take into account the individual's earning potential, tax status, net worth, current income etc. and to my mind is unfair - through that logic if someone very rich litters, then they could be liable for a fine of thousands, because a much poorer person would be liable to a fine of £30 or so, regardless of how that person may distribute their income (businesses, employees, investment etc.)

See as far as I can tell, John Terry called Anton Ferdinand a "* black *". Surely of those three words the only one which is undeniably and demonstrably accurate is "black"? And that's the one which is being complained about? If he'd just called him a "* *" there would be no case to answer yet given that Anton Ferdinand IS black, how is that any different? Would it have been ok to have called him a "* * of afro-carribean descent"?

I don't understand why the courts are wasting time on this, except to make lawyers richer than they already are. * *.

It's more that his race is of no consequence, so to highlight this (and use the term black pejoratively) was seen as racist.

I think whilst the act may have been unacceptable, it's nowhere near enough to be a criminal matter. The issue is so many people paying attention to the incident, and now this will be seen to set the bar in cases of casual racist abuse - which it shouldn't be.

As things are, Anton Ferdinand also called Terry a * several times and also teased him about his affair with Wayne Bridge.

I think Andy may have been being slightly sarcastic there. Just a thought.

I really hope this isn't true you know, I'm not a huge cycling fan but if it transpires that Armstrong DID cheat then you have to ask if anyone in cycling is clean.

I know an endurance cyclist - he isn't a road racer but he is in the same world, and at the same level in a parallel team. His take on it is that there hasn't been a clean rider in the Tour for "the last million years". He is quite cagy about it but I can't even get him to admit that its better now than it was years ago, and I desperately want to believe that it is. But then I desperately wanted to believe Lance was clean too. This current business isn't what has made me doubt him, but even my friend, who deeply admires Lance as a cyclist, he won't say that he believes Lance was clean.

I feel really proud of what we've amassed on this site. Obviously I knew this day would come and I've always felt that we were doing important work archiving the breakfast show in terms of shows, soundclips, news articles, Tedious Links, Celeb Raspberry, etc. I'm really glad now that everyone has put so much work into the site.

I quite like coming on here and talking to you all (except Badger) and I feel like I've been able come across some rather lovely people I would never have known existed otherwise.

Well, it's chrismoyles.net, not thechrismoylesshow.net. He hasn't died, so there's no reason why the site won't continue to exist!

Wheat from the Chaff. I'd really hope that a majority of the users who post on this forum regularly, will keep coming back for the volumous off topic conversations that happen in Ramble.

True, it's unlikely that we'll get many new members - but I like hearing what you're all up to, what's annoying you - or making you smile.

I'll still loiter on here. I'm a bit sad that I only started becoming more regular in the last few months, especially considering I've been on here for 6 years (ironically 7 in September!). I feel like I missed out on a lot of the community stuff!

I think it'll be an ideal time to crack on finishing your Golden Hour project. I was thinking about doing some next week actually.

Agreed. I was just thinking about how I will miss it every Friday. I genuinely used to look forward to my Friday commutes :(

Irony is that this is the most I've been on this forum in an age. Usually I just come on here, check the Golden Hour game, check to see if there's anything else worth reading and then disappear again!
