The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues

Have to say I'm glad that Scott is staying, he is annoying at times but I feel he adds something to the station. The bad news for me is Gemma, who I find unbearable, taking over from Edith on weekend breakfasts.

If its true that Scott has signed a 3 year contract to do this new 1-4 slot that could be bad news for Chris. It probably means that when he leaves breakfast he wil be taken off the weekday line up altogether, and Scott is being kept on.I cant see Chris and Scott both being kept on the weekday schedule when they're both past 40.Ben Cooper is under too much pressure to put in younger Djs

I've nothing against Scott Mills personally. He's a likeable chap, reasonable radio presence, but the 'features' he does are truely awful. The 'wind-up' phone calls are simply dreadful. As soon as he starts that nonsense when I'm driving home I hit the MP3 button. His mate Chris with his autobiography was vaguely amusing for about 10 minutes, but that's just tedious filler now as well. The sooner he moves to the 1-4 slot the better. I'll be at work and won't have to suffer the 50% of his show that is utter bilge.

People calling Scott "awful" couldn't be more wrong. If he really was awful he wouldn't have lasted as long as he as in a prime slot on Radio 1. He might not be your cup of tea but that doesn't make it a fact.

I like Scott's features to be honest, but that's probably my immature sense of humour. The angry Pizza Hut Wind up phone call is pure genius, search YouTube if you haven't heard it.

Personally, I've gone off Greg the last 18 months. He seems stale and this promotion seems to be based on reputation rather then form.
But that's just my opinion.

I've always liked Greg , and I think he has real potential , but I've never really tuned into his 1-4 slot because i dont think it has enough content. I'm hoping he steps up a level with his new drivetime show.

As for Scott , I used to listen to his show all the time , it was pretty much daily at one point. I really liked the dynamic between him and Chappers , and features like Flirt Divert , while overkill at times, were legendary. But it's all gone a bit downhill recently (and he's dire as Chris' stand-in) . I'm surprised he has the 1-4 slot personally , and my gut feeling says he wont be there for long.

I think Greg will eventually become Breakfast host, and Chris and team will move back to Drivetime. I dont see anywhere else in the schedule he would go , as he wont do weekends and night time is for specialist djs. (unless he takes over from Grimmy and a Late night Chris Moyles Show is born... that could be interesting..)

Oooh, I think we could. Very easily. Here, I'll give you an example - public transport is great. There you go, that was dead easy.

Scott Mills is awful. Said it again. Please note, I am not suggesting and did not suggest that this is anyone's opinion other than mine. In my opinion, he is awful. Who else's should I be consulting? See I think he is awful. Absolutely mind-numbingly tedious and dreadful. Without the ability to perform a Vulcan Mind-Meld, I don't have access to anyone else's mental processes so my conclusion - ie that Scott Mills is awful - is going to remain the same, unless he suddenly stops being awful and starts being listenable. That would do it. But until then, I think he is awful, so when asked my opinion on Scott Mills I will be replying "He is awful".

With respect, you are wrong. Scott is awful. :D

As for Chris, I was just thinking, when he said yesterday that (paraphrasing) "I have to stop 99% of what I'm thinking coming out of my mouth", it'd be great if post-R1, he had enough telly shows to keep him afloat and didn't need to do radio, so just did a completely uncensored podcast (with Dave and possibly others) for fun/sponsorship/donations -- so not for a salary.

Adam Carolla does a podcast -- he has no employer and no salary, yet is earning more than Chris just through advertising. Nothing is censored, so he can drop f-bombs and even c-bombs when he gets in to a rant.
And you have a podcast like "Jim and Eddie Talkin' Sh*t" with Jim Jeffries, which is even more depraved, yet absolutely hilarious.

Check them out -- unless you have delicate sensibilities.

ETA: This is from the show -- they can swear, but advertisers ask them not to swear during live ad reads. David Alan Grier doesn't like that... (NSFW language -- it's not for everyone!)

Advertising what? How? I have never heard of him - to be making the kind of money you're talking about I would assume he must advertise some pretty mainstream stuff in a very high profile way - what am I missing?

I can dismiss him then.

Yeah, mostly in the U.S. of A, but he has listeners in Merry Old England and elsewhere.

Advertisers include Microsoft, Citrix, Nissan, Amazon etc.

Jim Jeffries is pretty big in the UK (compared to Adam).

Well, I don't know if his show has changed much but I listened to Greg's show a few times back in 09/10 and just found it dull since he talked for 10 seconds before another record and had no features whatsoever. I don't really have anything against Mills but I don't listen to the show. Breakfast show is the only show I listen to and would listen to others perhaps if the station had a better playlist.

Travis Bickle wrote:I have done a complete about-turn on Mills and James. I used to think that Greg showed real potential and was the heir apparent to Moyles, but he just hasn't developed as I hoped he would. He has zero on-air personality and his show is just dull.

Greg has so little charisma he finds it necessary to put on stupid, ridiculous voices during just about every link to try to inject some humour into them, and it doesn't work. He comes across as a bore with nothing to say.

Scott Mills is someone who I have warmed to. I understand all of the criticisms of him and wouldn't particularly argue with any of them, but at least he has a show with features and it feels as if his show is vibrant with stuff going on. I cant compare his show to how it used to be as I used to give him such short shrift, but I don't get bored listening to him nowadays.

Barring something unexpected this is obviously the last move Greg makes before replacing Moyles on breakfast. This is about giving him a bigger job to see how he adapts and also to raise his profile before Chris' contract ends in 2014.

I have had exactly the same feeling. I've found Greg James to be a little over-awed by his position at radio 1, a little over sincere and quite boring. If he could add a bit of edge and risk to his style, be a bit more confident in his own skin and find something interesting to talk about he'd be a great broadcaster. The ironic thing is that all of those will come with age.

Moyles and Mills are/have been on the top of their game for nearly a decade now, they've grown up with the station, found the boundaries and pushed them as much as they can and are now at the peak of their powers. Especially Moyles who is pretty much untouchable in youth radio IMO.

Chris's age shouldn't come into it, he should be presenting that breakfast show until it starts to decline but we all know that politically the writing is on the wall if they swap him for someone younger without the things that make Chris great.

I wouldn't rule out Chris and Dave moving back to the afternoons before they leave radio 1 either. I think they would like the opportunity to bring in some different guests at a more sociable hour and would like to go back to those working hours for a bit before bowing out. It would bookend the breakfast show nicely IMO.

Agreed. The idea of the breakfast show ending with them leaving Radio 1 would be gutting. I would love them to go back to drive for a couple of years, and then move on should they wish. I want to hear what Chris and Dave sound like at they age they are back in a slot which they used to enjoy so much.

Public transport could be brilliant and saying it is good would still be more wrong than saying that Mills is awful.

Joincidence?

I had that thought too...

Has Chris ever commented on the fact Greg James has 2 first names ? I am sure before Greg came along they used to joke about typical DJ's who would pick 2 first names as their DJ name, yet we could have one for the breakfast show in a few years time it seems.

Nope even when it is 10 years later they will still be saying it
. Even if chris wasn't doing the breakfast show they will still say he is leaving

I love Scott's show. He keeps me entertained on my drive home. For me the change is good. I hate Greg (and choose Jeremy Vine) and I will be able to listen to ALL of Scott now while I am at work. I don't see why his show shouldn't work at a different time slot. Is it really a demotion?

I've listened to Scott since he was on the 3am slot.

If Becky left I don't know if I would be such a fan. They know each other well and work well together.

Chris (Scott's Chris) to me is just a Carl Pilkington wannabe.

Sat and today are up
