Yeah interesting interview alright. Regarding the longevity of Moyles on breakfast its a perplexing interview..hes contracted at R1 until 2014, but doesen't rule out a move off breakfast if I'm reading it right? While having Moyles move to say drivetime might refesh the show and probably increase listenership in that slot, not being on the flagship show might be tricky to accept presumably?

Nothing wrong with the focusing on younger listeners agenda but I hope that they don't antomatically make a link between younger listeners and more dubstep/noise on the playlist :D In my mind part of the refusal of 29+ year olds to move to radio2 is that the station is quite deull in comparison to R1. Half the R2 shows seem to be filled with traffic news...

As much as it will be sad to see the current crop of dj's go it is inevatable. Radio 1 is and always has been a youth station, so when the average listenership age goes up, something must be done to bring it down again. Either the dj's or the music has to change.

It will be sad to see one of them go. Maybe two. The rest can swivel.

Ben Cooper will do whatever it takes to make Radio One popular and relevant. He is not scared to make radical changes to the schedule inc removing long standing presenters if necessary..Whether Chris continues to do breakfast till january 2014 or not will depend very much on the quarterly audience figures. For now they're OK but if they were to fall below 7 million or if the Today show were to overtake it then there could be a problem...

Nail hit firmly on the head.

Radio 1's target audience is 15-29 year olds. Radio 2's is 35+, so there's a big gap of six years that isn't officially catered for by either station. Hardly surprising that people aren't switching from 1 to 2.

Arrrrrggghhhh!!

Y'know, when I head that Moyles was signed to 2014, the first thought through my head was "thank god - we can stop having that same old conversation every three months debating whether or not he's gonna get kicked off the breakfast show".

Every three months since 2004. Eight years.

We need to stop now.

He is a radio D.J. first and formost. T.V. work is a sideline. We'll never go are seperate lives because he'll re-appear on another station.

Nice read. I'm ready for James to take over Moyles. It's just a matter of time. Didn't enjoy reading Cotton in the same sentence, though. I don't think so, Cooper.

Sat and today are up
