See you know that, but you don't know she is Home Secretary. And I can completely see why.

I know the precedent isn't high, but really, this shambles is the least inspiring of respect of any government I can remember so far - and I remember John Major.

Just out of interest, are there any others on here who abstain from voting?

Me.
The political choice on the mainland is appalling enough but over here its a few rungs higher on the 'Holy Fu*ck, you've got to be kidding me' ladder.
Its not that i don't hold strong political views, i do, but there is not one political party or individual that i would trust to represent me.
I hold the view that Norn Iron is run by terrorist murderers & corrupt swindlers entirely for the benefit of terrorist murderers & corrupt swindlers.
The only role for their electorate is to trot out every so often like the sheep they are & vote for whatever toady or gunman from either side they are instructed to.
Sometimes more than once a day.

For me not voting is not , as is usually depicted by hectoring editorials in both the left & right wing press, a question of laziness, but a conscious decision to divorce myself of responsibility of picking crooks & thugs to run the country into the ground.
For all my many faults i can at least go to my grave safe in the knowledge that it had f*ck all to do with me.

When i lived on the mainland i was almost as shocked by the state of the three main political parties there too & again exercised my right not to vote.

If they ever do bring in compulsory voting , unless there is a 'none of the above' option ( and there won't be as that would win a landslide every election) then i'm quite happy to be prosecuted for declining to vote. I genuinely do feel that strongly about it.

That was Jacqui Smith, another lacklustre harridan , though from the Labour party.

I don't know which is more depressing - that post above, or the fact that it is true. What a bloody mess its all become.

Oh for the record, vis a vis my above long rant ( oooh,i'm soooo Partridge 8) ), i would like to point out that i actually do make an effort to go to the polling station & deliberately spoil my vote. Usually by writing 'f*ck off' across it. Okay, thats immature & pointless , but, hey, that's the kinda guy i am.

Its not pointless - a spoiled ballot is counted, and the more of them there are, the more discontent is registered.

Sorry, i meant writing an obscenity across it is a bit pointless, not spoiling the vote as such. I should have made that a bit clearer.

Well maybe that is pointless, but its also understandable unfortunately.

I think the low voter turnouts are evidence enough of the lack of interest that a significant proportion of the UK feels towards it's own politics system. I'm always being moaned at that I should submit a spoiled ballot - but personally I find it to be an exercise in futility. Plus it sounds too 'cool' to say that you went and spoiled your ballot.

You don't need to have an interest in politics to know who the Home Secretary is. I am not overly interested in politics, but I do listen to the news and read newspapers by doing that I know who the senior politicians in this country are.

All of the people justifying Dave not knowing who Theresa May is also admit to not knowing who she is either, so I largely ignore their opinions, especially when some claim to take no notice because politicians are "arseholes", yet they don't know who the politicians are. Yes, that is some skewed logic there..."I have no Idea who you are, but you are an arsehole"

You would need to walk around with blinkers on as far as the real world is concerned to not know who the Home Secretary is. I regret even asking if I was being harsh. You don't need to watch Question Time or PMQ's to know who is running the country.

During the summer riots did you all just pretend it wasn't happening and ignore it? A fair few politicians, including May as the Home Secretary, gave very high profile statements and interviews during all that. Weren't you interested in what the government was going to do about it?

And someone said something about us all having gaps in our knowledge and that Dave will know things that we don't. ..Bloody hell, we aren't talking about trivia here and some knowledge of motorways and what song was released when in the Golden Hour. This is a bit more significant than that.

There are things we all should know. And who is running the country is one of them.

I haven't heard the show yet, so I can't say anything about it, but on a similar thought:

I was surprised when they talked about financial matters and accountants and Dave said he doesn't know one thing about money and he doesn't care (IIRC). It's one thing if someone like Chris doesn't care how much of the money he exactly keeps and where it goes, but one would think that Dave who presumably earns less, has larger expenses and takes on every job that will give him money (Dancin on Ice, his gigs all over the UK) would want to care if some of his hard earned money got wasted unnecessarily. If I were in his shoes, I wouldn't trust my accountant completely and I would look for any way to make/keep more money.

Well judging by the majority of the comments posted here apparently we mostly just look at the boobs and enjoy the wonders of Hagar the Horrible.

Don't be such a pretentious arsehole...

*Edit - Had a bit of a long winded response for this to begin with but feel the above suffices*

Nope, I'm Scottish and as such couldn't have given a cat's * what was going on regarding the riots.

In your opinion.

You're confusing 'not caring' with 'being stupid' and they are two very different things.

I bring your attention back to, thankfully, us all being different.

Not true at all. I Said a few posts back that this has nothing to do with intelligence.
Also, just to clarify what I meant when I said I ignored the posts made by people who also hadn't heard of Theresa May. I largely ignored them because it stands to reason that if you haven't heard of someone, you are pretty likely to defend someone else who also hasn't heard of that person...not because they are stupid.
