Ah the old "I was being Ironic defence"

Strictly though Clarkson is a Satarist, if anything, satire is in it's very essence increasing a particular trait to bring attention to it, Irony is something different, ask Yuds.

Grrrr. After enjoying years of employment where I only had to wear Shirt n Dancin' shoes if going face to face with a Client, i'm now back in the 'need 5 Shirts a week' school, so Ironying is now fresh back in my life.... Humph.

PS no starch for me

Was that the guy they had on QI a few weeks back? Also was he controversial and FUNNY though?

That's him, and I thought he was okay, but only okay. His line about how comics in this country swear so much made me chortle: "We don't swear in Germany, because everything works."

I didn't like him at ALL on QI but his bit on Reg D Hunter's One Night Stand was - well, better. Nic picked out the best joke already.

Love Reg D Hunter though. LOVE him.

Oh it was a whole German/Jewish/Holocaust joke. I actually gasped out loud, and that almost never happens. Almost.

Quite right.

And if there are any Union leaders reading, given how you represent the working man (or woman) and were in part created by the working man (or woman) to protect the working man (or woman) from unfair working practices, unfair employers, exploitation and arbitrary dismissal, don't immediately demand someone be sacked without any kind of due process.

It cheapens everything you stand for, misrepresents your members and sets back your arguments by years.

And it's pathetic.

As a staunch and long time supporter of the Trades Union movement, I say - what he said!

Love From

A working (or woman).

Of course his comments were in jest, unfortunately people like my Mum read the Mirror, who only picked up on his negative comments, and she declares him a complete arrogant bastard and when I tried to explain it she said I was only saying that because I liked Top Gear, sometimes parents can be so stubbon

In all honesty it was badly timed but the reaction has been pathetic, some of the Unions were going to actually sue before he apologise, what a pathetic bunch of twats.

Thing is though how many people have claimed that people have committed suicide in front of a train is selfish, loads, and in some ways they are and before anyone shoots me (back away Clarkson :-P) the reason I say this is because an innocent train driver does get effected. It is sad & shocking when someone does commit suicide, look at Gary Speed for example, and yes I have no idea what is going through someone's head when they throw themselves in front of a train but aside from obviously effecting the persons family it also effects the live of the train driver, some have got over seeing a person jump out in front of them eventually but some train drivers never do.

Apologies if that sounds like rambling but I hope you get what I mean.

The Unison woman who said she thought it was "scarey" like people would actually feel fear from this comment.... Sake.

Now if anyone were to be relieved of their duties and placed on gardening leave, she'd be a prime candidate.

To think that the giants her organisation stands on the shoulders of were responsible for the chartists, tolpuddle, getting rid of the master and servant law. And there she is. Gobbing off like that, besmirching their reputation and sacrifices.

And they wonder why their job, why our job, why the job of representing workers in a fair way is so difficult.

It's so infuriating.

Indeed they do not. Whilst it was not by any means the only factor in his suicide, my (train driver) first husband had exactly that experience and it was definitely a contributory factor to his depression. The railways do offer free counselling but it isn't helpful for everyone unfortunately.
