Any pictures of her with the eye patch? can't see any of them on the radio 1 site or the Facebook page. Did they ever put any up?

Yeah, I'm gonna clip it up for the vault. I loved Dave's eye test: "R, R, R, R, R, R..." "well done, you've passed the pirate eye test." :)

She seemed to take it rather well in the opening half hour, have to say an Eye Ulcer sounds, I get them in my mouth quite often (usually stress related, although haven't had them for a while now) and they're painful, God knows what it's like in the eye 8O

She almost scared me into making an appointment when she said it could well have been as a result of contact lenses. I use the monthly kind (although I sometimes go a bit over a month's use...) and order online because they're so much cheaper, which means I don't have to go to the opticians to get them and so I haven't gone at all for about four years now and have had no eye tests in that time. My eyesight could be ten times worse now, but like Dave was saying this morning I wouldn't have noticed because it's normal to me. I'd love to get laser surgery done on them, but I'm too much of a scaredy-cat!

I'd like to get laser eye surgery at some point, it works out cheaper in the long run, like loft insulation for your eyes.
I'm about to get a new batch of lenses next month and found 3 months worth I hadn't opened yesterday. I haven't a clue how I went without them.

It works out cheaper assuming it works.

But then, you might go blind.

Couple of mates have had it done - one worked fine the other still needs specs (but can't wear lenses now for a while).

Right.

Your eyes dont just enable you to see, they're a window into your soul.

Kind of, but they can show up early signs of diabetes, of high cholesterol, heart disease and all kinds.

1. You need to go at LEAST once a year to have your eyes checked.
2. You must NOT regularly wear your lenses for longer than they're intended.
3. You need to go at LEAST once a year to have your eyes checked.
4. When you're at the opticians, you need to look at the chart of bad things that'll happen if you don't.

You only get one pair of eyes, treat them with respect and take care of them.

Cheers!

Seriously though, that's what it's like for me without specs, I'll be back on lenses soon cos the 3 grand op terrifies me, I would never forgive myself if it went tits up.

So, this ones for my eyes, I salute you, even though you're imperfect!

At the moment I only wear glasses for reading and the computer etc. I can cope with that. Never worn contact lenses.

I've got pretty much 20/20 vision. Get that round you, to all those who predicted my early loss of sight.

My reading glasses were in my bag when I had it stolen 18 months ago and I've never been able to afford to replace them. I was particularly gutted cos they were vintage frames. I like wearing glasses too, I think I kinda suit them.

Glasses Direct refused to re-lens my vintage frames, they said they were too delicate. Pffft.

Seems fair enough. Pay more elsewhere or buy some replica ones.

Yeah, I went somewhere else. I don't really do replica if I can help it.

I had some rimless ones that cost 2 hundred quid a few years ago, but were so light i hardly knew i was wearing them. My favourite glasses ever.
Unfortunately due to their lightness they were very delicate & inevitably they broke at where the bridge is attached to the lens. I have not been able to afford a new pair like that, but still have them in the sad hope that they would be able to be repaired.
I took them back to Specsavers to see if they could fix them, but they said it was a no-go. Though i'm fairly certain that was just a ploy to get me to fork out on a new pair of a similar price. The bridge seems to be some sort of metal, aluminium perhaps, so if any of you have any advice if it could be fixed & how if you could let me know it would be appreciated.

Oddly enough Saviour I can read that text you made minuscule fairly clearly, perhaps my eyes aren't that bad after all then?

Oh and after saying I hadn't had an ulcer for ages I've now got and got one  Not through stress mind, I was brushing my teeth & the toothbrush slipped, not only that but the wisdom tooth on my bottom right side has grown at a weird angle, although the dentist said it's fine it keeps digging into the ulcer :(
