That sign used for a love heart always reminds me of a sideyways ballbag <3. Anyone? No, just me then.

Just come from the Bolton signing. Nobody else there :( Dave was lovely, although when I mentioned I was from here he didn't look especially impressed...nevertheless, the shop girl took an appalling photo of me with him that will no doubt appear on their Facebook page shortly.

Well the two people who have posted that they went to get a signed book have both painted the same sad and rather pathetic picture of Dave all alone in a corner in a bookshop, with no-one buying his book....is it really horrible that even though I WANT to feel sorry for him, I can't help sniggering a little?!

Reminds me of 'That Peter Kay Thing' at Bolton Services, so yes I did snigger a bit too!

Just reading the book now, very good, how timely that on the week of Shooting Stars being cruelly binned, Dave should talk about the first time he met Chris and that SS was a huge influence to his material in the 90's.

After what he read about some people talking about his earnings on here, I'm not really surprised he was not impressed that you said you were from here :(

It is a shame about the turn out.

Where can I find where he is signing?, have looked but found nothing so far.

Cancelled due to unprecedented apathy.

Poor Dave. I sort of feel for him, it must suck to have such a poor turnout. It may reflect the sales of the book, but if the book sales are strong, it may also reflect the fact that Dave was banned from mentioning the book and signings on the show. Chris managed to at least get some oblique references (maybe more) to his book signings on the show.

Dave clearly hates this place because 3 people may have dropped in some comments mentioning him in either a positive, neutral or curious manner.
He really needs to get over himself. If you appear on a show when you talk about yourself (to some degree), do not be surprised when people might be interested in your life when you are off the air. If you don't want to be in the public eye, stay behind the scenes.

I bought the hardback editions of both of Chris' books on day one, but have no interest in Dave's book as he has made it clear he did not want it to be autobiographical, so I'm not at all surprised in the lack of interest. Why on earth "cash in" on your "celebrity" status and then not want include anything autobiographical. What is the book about? I read the first dozen or so pages on the Amazon site and the introduction included several pages about how hard it was to write a book (skipped, that's clearly filler) and then some brief biographical info. What else is in there?

Is it rehashed stuff he wrote for the show?

If it included a lot of material about R1, Chris, the show and maybe a little about his marriages (nothing salacious), I'd buy it. The reason these celeb books (mostly biographies) are so popular, is that people are interested in their lives. If you don't share that, it's far less likely people will be interested.

I have it and skimmed through it and it appears as if there is a lot of info about working with Chris and his time at radio one. And I swear it was number 2 on the Amazon books the other week which must have mean it is doing relatively well.

Not really:

Amazon Bestsellers Rank: 945 in Books (See Top 100 in Books)

#1 in Books > Music, Stage & Screen > Film > Film Genres > Comedy
#1 in Books > Music, Stage & Screen > Television > TV Genres > Comedy
#5 in Books > Music, Stage & Screen > Radio

Those other categories are a bit odd.

He was allowed to promote it whilst on Bacon's show for 'The Moan-In' yesterday (he was chuffed to get extra time to do so because Hugh Laurie wouldn't do his scheduled interview with Richard) and he said himself that it's a toilet book, so it's not as if he thinks it's a work of literary genius. Having said that, it does sound like there is some interesting Radio 1 and show related stuff in there. Richard asked him questions about the material in the book, including his early days at Radio 1 and the beginnings of working with Chris, and got him to name the djs Chris peed off (he doesn't name them in the book) when he first joined R1.

I also saw someone on Twitter asking his Jayne whether it was weird reading about the divorce in his book, and she said a little, but that he'd run it all past her first. So he must also divulge at least a little personal information it in, although I'd guess it's not too in depth.

It's autobiographical in the same way that Chris' first book was - ie its stories from his life, but not in a linear fashion. It isn't chapter one my early childhood, chapter two high school etc. Which I quite like - traditional autobiographies can be a bit dull at times.

He definitely doesn't like us here - I was hoping for a flicker of acknowledgment when I said that I do the Tedious, but he evidently just thinks we're sad geeks (at best). I wish now that I hadn't mentioned it to be honest. I dunno, maybe I was expecting him to become my new best friend or something :) I'm used to dealing with famous people in a work capacity, and I find being a 'fan' a very different and slightly odd experience. I'm not used to them putting up that distance.

Hmm. I am beginning to believe that Dave has too high an opinion of his own relative importance. As someone said earlier, he needs to get over himself.
