Not great news for the team unfortunately, down from 7.7 million at this point last year to 7.1 million. They've dropped 250,000 since the last quarter, though I imagine this is partly down to the Summer holidays.

The BBC article is worded almost as anti-Moyles as the Guardian one...

On a none relevant side note, I was personally glad to see that Ken Bruce has achieved his highest ever audience, as I enjoy his show and the music he plays (seems to be allowed to stray from the playlist more than other R2 shows?), but I was surprised to see that he had a bigger audience than Moyles with 7.52m listeners! Also, does anyone know what Scott Mills gets figures wise (the media never mention him, too busy bashing Moyles come Rajar time  ), as I was somewhat surprised to see Simon Mayo on R2 drivetime only gets 5.68 million.

No MrAndee, the year on year doesn't happen every year.

How does it compare to TV viewing figures in terms of how it is calculated? Is it an estimate or something a little more accurate?

Based on people keeping diaries (despite Kelvin McKenzie's efforts when he was in charge of talkSPORT).

Compared to TV which is based on boxes attached to TVs

I've done a RAJAR diary before but never met anyone who's had a BARB box.

It's inevitable that Radio 2 is going to have a bigger audience than r1 since the age range of th e target audience is so much wider. This may change in time , but for now we have to accept that every show on r2 is going to have a bigger audience than its corresponding show on r1. We all know that Chris Moyles is a vastly superior DJ to Evans, but sadly thnaks to all those negative tabloid stories not enough people are willing to give him a chance and take a listen :( That said 7.1 million listeners is still pretty good after 8 years.I think Sara Cox was below 6 million in her last year,so there's no reason to start panicking just yet!

PS I echo the congrats for Ken Bruce. He's been part of the daytime line up on radio 2 for more than a quarter of a century and judging by these figures he's not going to be going anywhere for a long time yet!
