I love the musical tastes game. It sounds like you need to find yourself a new radio show, though.

Yeah, I really enjoyed the musical tastes game today. Havent heard it for a while, but i think its great...except Tina never seems to get the concept.

Surely its pick a song that you love that people wouldnt expect you to love and pick a song that you hate that people would expect you to love

awfull awfull feature, was listenable the first time they did it, the best bit about todays show was Chris's impression of Anne Robinson and that watchdog guy, that was hilarious.

regarding a new show, I have been able to listen to radio1 on my drive home from work this week because Grimmy has been on for Scott dull mills, Grimmy is a cool guy and is really witty, please dont come back Scott!

Yyyyyyyeah.

I enjoy the feature a lot, I prefer the more outrageous choices to the run of the mill, I think there's an element of 'shit, think of a song quickly' creeping in - but I do enjoy it when people genuinely say what they think of terrible songs deemed cool by 'the crowd'.

I'm still enjoying it. They don't do it every week, so it hasn't gone stale yet, and I like they way they bring other R1 djs into it too. I did agree with what Chris said about it being pointless having Freya replace Aled for the game, I'm glad he said it would be the last week they would involve her.

Course he's absolutely right - she sounds pleasant enough, and she comes across well, but I wouldn't really know her musical tastes - and until she becomes more familiar, wouldn't really care.

I like the feature certainly it's the best feature they've come up with this year esepcially when compared to 'special ones' like face your fears that for me just fell flat.

It does depend on who's on Aled for instance was way too predictable and Westwood killed it stone dead the previous time they did it. Matt might be an interesting one, either in place of a Freya or in the absence of a guest. In terms of R1/1x DJs what about Mistajam/Kissy Sell out next?

I think Greg would be good

Tina's choices are so predictable, her music knowledge is shocking on Rob DJ's quiz, she hardly gets the 'song name' and year question, I do like her overall though.

Dave was certainly tearing into her today about that with his comments about her "R&B* bilge".
I maybe wrong but i think Chris may be getting tired of this for the very reasons stated above, it has be be a 'hate' track that is completely unexpected & against the grain, like when Dom picked a U2 track. And the love track must be completely off the wall, Coxy's Dolly Parton track was an excellent example.

There really is little thought going into some of the choices, but its not a regular feature, so theres no excuse.
It would be great if occasionally some proper guests would do it rather than R1 djs. I realise that most wouldn't have the time or inclination, but you can imagine how good David Guetta would have been at this?

*When i were a lad, R&B was class music by immense talents the likes of Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters, Howling Wolf & their like, not the totally different unlistenable overproduced bland autotuned crap that it is today. When did the definition change?

Well Robbie Savage did it. But I barely know who he is so I had no idea what tracks he would love or hate. I guess the idea of using DJs is that listeners get to know their musical tastes fairly well, so it makes the game more interesting.

I guess that was based on the audience expecting stereotypical 'footballer music' as Dave said "Thong Song" by Sisqó etc.

This feature is lives and dies by the guests and how much effort goes into their choices I think Dave and Chris can pull out surprising choices (although they do know each others tastes quite well as demonstrated in the golden hour) week after week but Aled was out of them by week 2.

The alternate feature that was mentioned by Chris a while ago was put each team member's mp3 player on shuffle (possible issues with language etc/) and see what you get although again you'd get the same problems with the seemingly lack of breadth in some team member's musical taste (i.e Aled) so it might only last one week.

Who played it this morning, was there a guest in? I missed it.

I love the feature by the way. My secret love would definitely be Michael Buble.

I think it's a great feature. The only concern I have is with the planning of it. They just scramble around for songs they like/dislike in the day or two before the feature runs, and that is proving to be a bit of a downfall as , truth be told, they are quite ambivalent about the songs they pick.

Instead of rushing to come up with tracks in the day or two before the feature, they should just make notes as and when they hear a song they love/hate and use it for the feature. Put on the spot I will struggle to think of songs I either love or hate, but over the next week or two I will hear loads that remind me how much I love or loathe them.

I don't see what's wrong with it. Maybe you should listen to something else in the morning if it annoys you that much.

I like the feature a lot but Tina is pretty predictable and you pretty much know what her song she loves or hates is whenever it shows up. I think the reason Freya is in there instead of Aled is to get her onto the show more and to be apart of the team since apart from this feature, you don't really hear a lot from her to be honest.

Yeah that is pretty much Chris' method in that he just randomly listens to songs on this mp3 player and just goes "love that" or hate that" etc. I do think they really do need to plan because I am sure there are hundreds of songs they've heard in their careers that they loved or loathed. Heck I can do it now with two random tracks.

Love - Pet Shop Boys: Go West
Hate - Florence & The Machine - You've Got The Love

They're not random.

And I'd suggest that being songs you dislike or enjoy, which I suspect those two are, is a world of difference from songs that actually elicit an instantaneous emotional response.

And for them to be 'fun', they'd be swimming against a tide of either public opinion or of how you think people perceive you.

Wow so wrong the musical tastes game is the best new feature on the show since where's Westwood (well its pretty much the only new feature since WW, but thats besides the point) its funny and you get to agree/disagree on what rubbish has been played on R1 over the years, and be quite shocked at some the songs the team admit that they do and don't like, that's when they actually bother to play it choosing to dump it cos JLS, Olly Murrs, John Barrowman etc... are coming on for the third fourth or fifth time.
