Greetings:

I am canadian but lived life as a brit on my way to and from work thanks to S|XM Sirius bringing me BBC Radio 1. I spend more time in my car that I care to say and Moyle and Mills get me to and from work. There is nothing on air anywhere else that is remotely comparable.

I am prostrate with grief at the cancellation. The podcasts are not the same. Not.The.Same. Nor are the radio links here but I will take them. They are all I have left ... these sad, delicate empty shells of what was my all-time-bar-none-stamped-it-no-erasing favourite radio of all time.

I only ever bought sat radio for these two shows. It is worth enough to me that I fork over hundreds of dollars to listen JUST to these two shows. And now? Now they are gone!

I wish there was appropriate method of venting my spleen with the XM execs. I want them vivisected; their heads on a platter and their guts strung, dried and used for shoe laces. Bring back the middle ages. What I want is a good old fashionned hanging!

I remain a massive fan, a loyal listener and now feel utterly cut off from all that is civilized in this world.

BBCR1 you rule. XMRadio, you SUCK!

I guess at least its good news to a degree but it is only "online" and not broadcast via the satelite receiver (that is how I am reading that press release?)

I can listen at home via my Iphone,Logitech Squeezebox etc but still cant listen in the car unless I hook up my iPhone to the radio and hope that I get a solid 3g connection and in some of the arse parts of NC thats not gonna happen.

If nothing else, the whole Sirius fiasco has introduced us to a bunch of American listeners we wouldn't have heard from otherwise. So if clouds have silver linings, that's one - its been very nice to "meet" you all.

Greetings from the Great White North:

RedParrot reporting in.

Honest. I didn't mean to scare anyone. Heck. I'm Canadian. We apologize for everything including the weather, standing in lines and going through the door when it's held open for us. In real life, I'm polite, milque toast, mild-mannered and shy. My rant was my effort to keep pace with some favourite British humourists and ragebunnies. I completely did not intend to alarm. It is not the Canadian way. I'm sorry. I feel bad.

Now back to the subject at hand. When we last parted company, I was prostrate with grief at the egregious cancellation of BBCR1 by XMR. 24 hours later and I discover that voices have been heard! XM decision-makers have been bold! They have been responsive and took pity on the bittersweet tympani of our breaking hearts! They have written press releases! From New York even! BBCR1 is back! On time shifted internet! YAY!!

Wait.

What?

Time shifted internet? Seriously? I have a compost heap of rotting beet tops that could come up with better solutions than that! I can't get the internet at work! I want to get it in my car! MY CAR! And I can't get internet in my car! Unless of course it just means I wrap a bit of tinfoil on my antenna.

What I want is BBCR1 back and listen to it in my car. I want to listen to Moyles and Mills. I want my pub quiz and get all the answers wrong except the math questions and the odd Canadian Content question (like the "what do they call the rubber disc used in "ice" hockey). I want my Chris rants back. I want Aled with his sublime world view. I want Dave who can't keep a secret. I want Tina and Dom (who's weather may be crap for the UK but pretty bang on for where I live). I want to know what the next lame game is. I want to know what's for breakfast and how training is going. I want to get the news late. I want to learn Welsh from Aled's dad and know where the next road trip is. I want to face my fears and do revisions on a roller coaster. I want to know where the next Big Weekend is going to be. I want to be almost sick to my stomach when the #4 contestant for the free tickets gets the answer wrong. I want Innuendo Bingo. I want notes from the PR4L. I want to hear how the show is coming along for Edinburgh. Next year, I was so looking forward to the Summer Olympics I could hardly stand it. I want to listen to five in the morning and three in the afternoon carry on and get off topic and laugh so hard the only sounds they make are squeaks.

I wish the cheese-headed muppets at XMR understood.

I want my BBCR1 back.

(cheers from the honestly not very scary RP)

Greetings from the Great White North:

Re principle domicile ...

I started off in Montreal, PQ and now - for international argument's sake - Toronto, ON.

Note: if you are ever undercover and trying to pass yourself off as a native, pronounce it "Trawna", not To-Ron-To.

:)

I feel somewhat at a loss with no further XMR to whinge about.

Wow, quite some reading in this thread....

Oh and redparrot, no need to apologise for Canada, not even for"Due South" either. I thought it was brilliant and liked watching it. Well, at least until the original actor playing Detective Ray Vecchio left and some new bloke replaced him. After that, not so much.

We could in turn apologise for sending over the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge recently. Certainly from what I saw, it looked like it was for a bunch of photo opportunities and gave him a chance to pretend he was flying a big metal duck.

They probably did a lot more which I've missed.
