The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues

I am absolutley gutted - this morning the BBC Radio 1 Sirius XM channel was removed from air because they needed to make more space. I heard Chris mention it last week under his breath but didnt believe it! What the F***. No need to keep Satelite radio in my car anymore - Moyles was the only reason to have it while i sat in morning rush hour to work.

This is what Sirius XMs website said :

A Note to BBC Radio 1 Listeners
BBC Radio 1 is no longer available on SiriusXM. Many of the songs heard on BBC Radio 1 can be heard on SiriusXM Hits 1 (Ch. 2) or 20 on 20 (Ch. 3), Alt Nation (Ch. 36), The Heat (Ch. 47) and BPM (Ch. 51). For a British perspective on the news you can listen to BBC World Service (Ch. 118).

That does suck. I guess you can still download the shows from this site, but yeah, I'd be gutted.

(Also, you're from Texas! Have I harassed you about whether you sound like Sawyer from Lost before? If not, that's an oversight.)

I am an Essex Boy!!! Emigrated to Texas in 2003 - however at least the listen again option is always available for work time but i did enjoy listening to Moyles on the way to work - the radio around here is utter crap!

Ah well, if you have any Texan friends who want to send me recordings of them speaking, let me know ;) But not being able to listen to the show live is a pain - I've been scrabbling about getting my downloaded shows ready to listen to in the mornings this week cos they're off, and that's just for one week.

This is a stupid decision on the part of SiriusXM and was one of the few reasons left that I kept satellite active in my car.

I fully intend to call customer care and loudly register my unhappiness.

You'd think a company that is bleeding customers would do everything they can to keep them... cutting programming that people want to listen to isn't a way to keep a customer.

You hit the nail on the head! Already sent my email to them this morning voicing my displeasure and that i will be cancelling the three receivers we have.

The Chris Moyles show and some other Radio 1 shows was the only reason to keep it now i dont have the luxury of any Radio 1. No need for the service! Back to 104 KRBE for me on the way to work! (Yuk!)

That's terrible! And who really listens to daytime Radio 1 for the music...you can listen to chart crap all day on thousands of stations. I thought the Radio 1 channel was too popular for anything like this to happen. Obviously not.

It stinks that there is no more R1 on Sirius XM. I know of a few people in the US that loved to listen to the Chris Moyles show. They are going to be pissed when they hear that they can't listen to it anymore.

That is a total cop out that reply. Its just a standard reply letter. The reason i think they are doing that is that they didnt get advertising money from the channel as its a non commerical channel. So its all to do with the dollars. I have listened to a few things channels on Sirius XM and they were crap.

I would be interested to find out what Sirius thought they were going to achieve greater by giving R1 the axe. It just makes me more frustrated to get that crap reply; there's always something deeper at work. The podcasts just aren't the same as getting the show timeshifted just right for the morning drive.

Really pissed about this and as an Exiled Brit it was great to hear the Radio 1 stuff via Sirius, but I will be calling after I get done here to cancel (thats gonna be another nightmare).

Someone mentioned podcasts, I only saw a weekly highlights version is there also a daily podcast of Chris's show?

Any help would be appreciated.

Just a follow up on my earlier posting.

I spoke with Sirius to cancel and as per usual the guy asked my why and I told him as they no longer carried BBC Radio1 I had no interest in keeping it.

He replied that he had taken a lot of calls from customers wishing to cancel for that reason, and suggested that I not cancel but suspend my account as Sirius have reversed decisions based on customer feedback/cancel requests (he quoted an "Enlightment" channel that was removed and later reinstated due to customer feedback.)

Not sure if this was genuine or just a clever ploy to save me (and protect his save rate) but I still proceeded with the request to cancel and he said he would clearly note my reason.

That sucks for people in the US who like listening to the show or Radio 1 in general. Guess the only way you are going to listen now is via the edited shows Ian puts up here or download via the Radio downloader program if those in the States are able to use it.

Gotta love the patented reply they sent to people. Of course you're able to listen to the music Radio 1 has since most of their music can be listened to since it is known as mainstream music thank you very much. :P

The BBC Press office has released a statement via BBCR1 twitter feed.

The BBC’s commercial arm BBC Worldwide has been in partnership with SIRIUS Satellite Radio to broadcast Radio 1 on their main network, since 2005. This agreement has now unfortunately come to an end and BBC Worldwide are in current discussions with the satellite radio station to find ways to continue to bring popular music channel, BBC Radio 1, to the US audience. We will keep you posted.

Cancelled yesterday because of this. It's not just the US guys but also Canada.
The expats forums have all been discussing this.
They won't bring it back I think, it's more of a financial decision. Otherwise they would have axed channel 118 instead.

SiriusXm keeps daring me to cancel - I just may do it this time.. I'd never heard of R1 or Chris Moyles until 5 1/2 years ago, when I found R1 on my new Sirius radio. I love listening to them - very little over here is as interesting in the morning. Thankfully I've been able to listen again online - but I fear that may go away too since I'm in Kentucky & not exactly paying license fees. No, this is not good news.

Like the rest of you, I've also sent a nasty e-mail to the XM Radio people. I traveled to the UK 5 years ago and found the show one early morning and loved it so much that I got back to Texas (yes, a real Texan Nicola :)) and immediately subscribed for that very purpose. I've been thoroughly entertained on my way to uni. I will definitely be downloading the shows form the Mark and Lard archive as well as continuing the podcast...sorry, "free download". Once my contract is done, I'm outta there!
