I have had fruit cake that I have enjoyed a lot, but it will never be my favourite kind of cake. My mum used to make good fruit cake. Mr Yudster makes excellent Christmas cake.

I make nice Christmas cake too.
Although last year I iced them too early and they went mouldy.
Tradition is we make the cake on Hallowean, all have a stir, we use Mrs B's Grans recipe, which we found in a 1970's Hamlyn cook book when she pegged it.
Nice, but fruit cake always benefits from a good coating of soft butter!

Our tradition started the first Christmas we were married, when at the end of October Mr Y was out of work for about three weeks and bored rigid. He wanted something to do, so I plonked Delia in front of him and told him to make the Christmas cake. It turned out the nicest one I'd ever had, so thereafter its been his job to do it. I ice it on the 23rd December at the earliest - more likely Christmas eve to be honest! Its always a last minute thing. And the best way to eat Christmas cake is with a good slug of single malk whisky and a big slice of Wensleydale cheese. Happy Christmas everyone!

It appears that in my haste to weight in on the XMR fiasco, I have failed in registering an introduction. Sorry about that. Let me make Canadian amends.

I am from Montreal, Quebec and live - for argument's sake - in Toronto, Ontario. I have a british heritage on both sides and can trace The Tree back to the Fulham football pitch (turn of the century team).

I'm not really sure what else to report or what anyone cares to know. (If you are interested in my unfiltered opinions about the XMR BBCR1 cancellation, please see the related thread).

Regarding "aboot" ... I don't think I say aboot. Americans say I do. Once they point it out (after good natured laughing and pointing), they ask me to say ... roof, route, quebec, tor-on-to ... and then watch me eat with a knife and fork.
