Hi everyone, I've been visiting here since the old days (back when it was still Moylesworld). Lost my way for a wee while, but always been more of a lurker on the forums.

I'm Richie, and I'm from Tamworth originally, but now living in Birmingham.

I like your avatar. Did you draw it yourself?

Thanks, no a friend drew it when I was working backstage on a musical (hence the headset)

I think I had a different username in the old days, but I've been popmonkey in most places for a long time now.

Long time lurker, first time poster!

Been a fan of the show since the drivetime days, and obviously know about this site through the mentions it's gotten over the years.

That cake has fresh fruit on it. Fresh fruit is healthy. Cake should never ever be healthy. Never. That is not good cake.

Fruit cake is different. I'm talking about fresh fruit used as a "treat". Fruit isn't a treat, its something you eat because it does you good (and its not unpleasant so its preferable to spinach, which is deeply unpleasant). Therefore it does not belong on a cake.

Fruit cake in and of itself isn't a treat, its a kind of nod towards a treat but no one really likes it much.

Yuds, shurrup.

Some of the best indulgences include fruit.
Pavlova, Scone Jam & Cream, Carrot Cake, Apple Turnover, Raspberry cream horn, Raspberry ripple Ice Cream! Strawberry & Cream Sponge...... Yummmmm!

I know that sometimes you say stuff, then realising you are wrong, fight really hard to prove the point that in fact you were actually correct, but on this one just give it up.

I made blackcurrant Ice cream with my own blackcurrants the other day, along with Blackcurrant Mousse, they were both lovely. I also made Blackcurrant Seedless Jam, and then 2 gallons of wine with the stuff that was left after pressing, fruit is good I tell you.

All of those things are lovely, but it isn't the fruit that MAKES them lovely. Its the sugar.

I've tried hard to like fruit, but the closest I can get to it is not disliking it. I think its because I have such a sweet tooth, and a moderate to severe sugar addiction(!), but when people offer me a strawberry saying "ooh they're really sweet!" and I try it, and its NOT really sweet, its just a bit sweet at best, I get grumpy, and realistically, that is pretty much always the case these days.

I have had fabulously gorgeous strawberries but not for hundreds of years. I do deeply enjoy a really properly ripe nectarine. But unless you grow it yourself, fruit just isn't RIPE, so for me its always a disappointment.

I'm sorry Boboff. If its any consolation, I have been very careful not to pass my fruit-disappointment on to Baby Yudster, he loves the stuff. Weirdo.

I love fruit and I also have a huge sweet tooth. Alright it's not as sweet as a really nice syrup sponge, but it's still nice. Anyway, perhaps your previous enjoyment of better quality fruit has made you a fruit snob - maybe you having sampled better is reason for your current disappointments?

Also, I want that cake.

Well fruit and sugar is ok isn't?

I don't like fruit, mainly becuase I spend a fortune on it, put it in a bowl for all to enjoy, and watch it go mouldy.

Fresh Strawberries need sugar adding as well as cream, don't beat yourself up about wanting it, those who enjoy them "naked" are weird indeed.

I hate it when you watch posh chefs on TV and they are talking about dessert, wibbling on about how wonderful it is because "its not too sweet" or its "tart" or it has a "lovely edge of bitterness" - * OFF! Dessert needs to be SWEET!!

Definitely. I think more "fruit nostalgiacist" than "fruit snob" though. But then I would, wouldn't I?
