13 years is a record for a Radio 1 controller isn't it? Good luck to him - the good thing is that I reckon Ben Cooper is likely to take over and as one of Chris' old producers (I think?) they already get on really well.

Ben was an old producer of Mr. Moyles but he won't make any changes due to the fact he will only be a caretaker controller until they find a perminant replacment for Andy. Chris has sighned a new contract but does it stipulate that he is the breakfast DJ for the next 2 1/2 years or that he mearly stays at Radio 1? As with any job I'm sure all the DJs' and production staff will be a little concerned about there jobs. As much as I hate to say it they are (I'll put it politly) established at Radio 1 and so the next controller will understandably look to younger and upcoming DJs'. I just hope they don't have a massive cull all in one go or the current status of the station will evaporate.
The DJs' I think will have no worry are Gregg James, Matt Edmondson (He should go though), Westwood, Annie Nightingale.

Ones that will go in my opnion will be Sara Cox, Edith Bowman, Scott Mills, Vernon Kay.

Fearne Cotton, Kissy Sell out, Annie Mac, Zane Lowe, Dev are all up in the air in my mind. But I am jumping waay ahead of the gun obviously.

My own personal must-go's are Fearne Cotton, Scott Mills, Vernon Kay and Matt Edmondson.

Yes, but I reckon he'll become the permanent replacement.

I thought the BBC were considering having a joint controller for BBC Radio 1 and 2. Is that just rubbish I heard/dreamt/misheard/inadvertently made up?

I let out a 'aww' when I heard it this morning. I hope he's happy wherever he goes and if the permanent replacement is half as good as him, it'll be a good few years to come.

Shame to hear he has moved on seeing as he's mostly been supportive of Chris, I just hope that if Ben Cooper isn't the new Permanent controller that the new person doesn't wield their axe & get rid of loads of DJ's such as Sara, Westwood, Annie Nightingale & of course Chris Moyles.

Though I haven't listened to Radio 1 regularly for a few years, I think Andy has done a terrific job in making the station what it is today. He'll be a hard act to follow.

I heard Matthew Bannister is eyeing up the role again...

You did hear correct: http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2011/jun/14/bbc-radio-1-2-single-controller
however this is unlikely to happen: http://www.bbc.co.uk/ariel/13782341

It would merely be a cost cutting exercise for the BBC but wouldn't be in listener's or station's interests.

Pretty certain Chris' contract is explicitly for the breakfast show, he would't drop to a lower presenting role on Radio 1 anyway. There's better money elsewhere. Plus it would be suicide for a new controller to come in and drop Chris early, it won't happen, it'd breech his contract and they'd lose half the listeners.

Also, don't expect a new controller to go and do a 'Bannister' either, remember Radio 1 was flagging when he was drafted in, today it is at a peak. Also he was widely criticised for his controversial decisions. A new controller wouldn't risk any snappy cuts. Any changes to be made would be slowly over a period so they can gauge how the listening figures are responding.

You do have a point. The BBC and the new controller would not knowingly make the same mistake twice but the old guard is getting older and the time will come when they have to go for the sake of listening figures. If they leave it too late then a mass cull will have to happen. So in my opinion a few weekend DJs' can go and try out new ones or, do what they done with Moyles and Gregg James i.e start them on the early weekday slot (4 a.m - 6:30 a.m) and test the waters there.

We have no power just ideas but that would be my strategy. That is also why I'm not a controller and just a happy listener (until 2014 at least. ha).

Quite a sad day for me as he actually went to my school, so I've always felt something of a personal connection to him.

Sad to hear Andy is going. He has been great with Chris even with the ups and downs of the show. My opinion on Andy was high before but when he did the late night shifts on the marathon show, it grew. He did something that most bosses wouldnt do. So hopefully he has a great future where ever he goes.

Don't know the guy or what he has done, but all the DJ's seem to have a lot of respect for him. So he must be a top guy.
Fearne cotton has a great sense of humour, when she decides to use it. Matt is also great on the top five thingy majig.
Sure he did a voice over of the creature comforts seal in the circus. Natalie is also great on that aswell. To be honest
i like all the Dj's on radio 1 day time.

Totally agree with dreamer1978.

Always had the impression he's been a big supporter of Chris and the show. I'm sure with various incidents / "scandals" over the years, he will have helped out in the background which would never have been that obvious to us as listeners.

All the best Andy.

By all the Twitter comments from the DJ's Bi and Large (couldn't resist) it's clear that he is the real Savior of Radio 1!

He will be sadly missed.

Big pressure from the Trust on the new controller about who goes and who stays.
