The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues

To those that listen to the radio all day, what are your opinions on station's playlists? Like I am not a fan of Radio 1's playlist even though I only listen to The Chris Moyles show but when you hear the same song played on that show every day for a good period of time, it can get rather irksome. But I couldn't care less about the music played since I listen mainly for the banter etc and hence why that is the only show on that station and everywhere else I would listen to. But those who work throughout the day etc, how do you feel about playlists on the station you listen to whether it's Radio 1 or Radio 2 or some local station. Are the playlists better there than in R1 and Today FM (an Irish station that has a crap playlist that has the same songs nearly every night like Adele, Lady Gaga, Jessie J etc etc)?

You are right. The playlists stop me listening to more radio 1.... Once CM is done at 1000, I either re-listen to a previous show on iPlayer (which means I can skip music) or switch to MP3's instead. I sometimes have a little Mills on the way 'ome, but thats really it for daytime R1. Although R1 is the only radio I listen to so couldn't comment on lists elsewhere....

I recently finished working with a carpenter who listened to Radio 2. The music is surprisingly good on there.

There are a few good programmes on R2. Steve Wright is brilliant, Simon Mayo too - Alan Carr is great, as is Graham Norton. There's an awful lot of shite too though.

Get up until I get to the office - Radio 1 - Chris Moyles. If I'm out and about on visits:-
10.00 - Fearne bugs me, but I'll listen to the hand over if there is banter to be had.
10.15 Radio 2 - lined up for Popmaster at around 10.20/25ish
11.00 - usually appointment time, so am away from the radio.
12.00 - Jeremy Vine and his phone ins on R2; if it doesn't interest me - Radio Bristol and Steve Yabsley (complete nutter).
14.00 - R4 Archers
14.15 - Steve Wright
If that doesn't grab me, it's back to a saddo 80's CD

Normally by then I'm back in the office - R1 for the drive home (10 mins), or if it's peeing me off, a CD goes in.

Realistically I'd pay 50p per day easily to listen, so the licence fee, although a bit choking is good value.

I agree! Although there seem to be far too many shows not playing music off the playlist and I just can't bring myself to properly switch to Radio 2. I am only 18 after all!

The awfulness of the Radio 1 playlist is giving me a dilemma. My favourite author Danny Wallace is starting the XFM breakfast show at the start of August and I don't know how I'm going to work around listing to both shows. I'm tending towards listing to Danny live and then Chris on iplayer so I can skip the music as XFM's playlist is more my thing.

Also I dare anyone to listen to Capital FM for more than an hour and their awful playlist without suicide entering your mind.

I find the daytime playlist boring. Usually if I listen to the show on iPlayer I skip the music and once that's done I listen to podcasts mainly or a bit of music on Spotify.

I find the playlist boring. They seem to play r and B songs most. Wish they would play will young new song as it's getting a buzz onto the internet and been on radio 2

I LOVE Simon Mayo, his afternoon show is my second favourite show on the radio. Alan Carr's show is very good but I wish they still had Radcliffe and Maconie on, that was a brilliant show too. In general Radio 2 is better than Radio 1 I think, because as far as I'm concerned there's only Chris' show that's worth listening to on Radio 1 since Colin Murray went, but I agree there's some tripe on there too.

A million times this. I think it undermines the point of 1Xtra when there is a lot of RnB and HipHop on the Radio 1 playlist.

Nothing seems to have changed then since that is usually what Radio 1 play nowadays, as well as pop and rock. I am not fond of dance music pretty much or anything like dubstep, drum n bass etc because half the time that stuff is just a complete mess of noise to me yet people like it. There are a few songs that they play that I like but most of it is crap that Aled & Fincham seem to like and shows we are not fond of the same type of music.

Said it several times before but I enjoy listening to Murray's Late night friday show on Radio Ulster although it's going to be different over the next several weeks since he has a different guest host from the Radio Ulster lineup each week now with their sort of preferred genre. Last week was Hugo Duncan with Country, which I actually found quite enjoyable and this week it will be Soul. Won't mind anyway since he tends to play music like this on his show except it will be 2 hours dedicated to it now. Don't mind most genres apart from the ones in the above comment and death metal where the singer screams words and would need subtitles or a translation to understand him or her.

I might give some of the shows like Mayo, Carr and Norton on Radio 2 a go and see what I think of them. Don't think it will take much for me to enjoy them more than the daytime stuff on Radio 1. Least Radio 2 play stuff before 1990 and not reduce their playlist to the last 2-3 years.

I really only listen to Moyles but if the Radio One playlist is chart stuff then I'd like it.
