Well done for brilliant feature don't listen to them aled. I have a fear of heights and do what the team done I could never do it. So proud of all the team

I haven't read through all the other posts, so apologies if I'm repeating anyone else. I think Tina's and Dave's were a bit tame - I appreciate that they are tailored to the fears of the individuals, but I reckon they could have got Tina to abseil down the building. However - I think the tameness of the other ones only made today's climax even better - Chris shouting at Dave "SHUT UP, YOU CRAWLED THROUGH A BLOODY BOX!" was brilliant and in fairness, if Chris is scared of dogs, that is no mean feat (I did agree with him that the prize was less impressive than some of the others and the challenge was a bit disproportionate in that sense). However, Dom's is an amazing challenge and I also like the way he's blackmailed into it by the prize being something his kids will LOVE.

Good work!

Nice one indeed, that was the best show for years today! Hats off to who came up with this idea.

When Dom's challenge came up I had envisaged it to be him standing strapped on top of a biplane, which would probably be worse than parachuting. Anyway looking forward to him doing it, the sense of accomplishment and exhilaration will make it all worthwhile. Wish I was doing it!

I havent read all 6 pages of this post so if Im repeating people - apologies, but my thoughts are:

1) This really isnt the toughest 'quiz' on radio ever.. in fact, in isnt even close to being that. As a listener, I feel genuinely conned and am totally bored of it as a feature.

2) Isnt a quiz traditionally based on a question and answer format? No a 'carry out some trivial tele-visual task and get a reward for it' format?

3) I found it ironic that when pitching this to the team, Aled told them to 'remember the radio'.. as in, it all about the radio - do it for the radio etc.. Aled would have done well to remember this himself when planning a 'quiz' that is clearly better suited to television than radio. It was hardly edge of my seat listening yesterday as I sat in my car and heard Dave rummage his way through a tunnel. I mean.. c'mon guys - its a RADIO show ffs.

Could really go on all day about how cheesed off I am with this, and what a complete let down its been.. someone should really remind Aled he produces a radio show, and not a TV show.. seems like more and more everything is aimed toward 'the web cam'.. well thats great if you're boos lets you watch the red button all day at work, isnt it!

Also.. I know that all the content is on the Radio website (pictures, videos etc).. but I dont listed to the Chris Moyles show in the morning on my way to work so that I can rush home form work and check the website in order to get the full experience of it all. I want to be able to enjoy the show AS I LISTEN TO IT! Is that really to much to ask for a radio show??

Rant over..

Oh dear..Hows come your post makes it seem like you didn't even listen this morning when the feature really *ahem* took off? Cos that's the one to listen to let me tell you!

In fairness I havent listened to this mornings show.. but considering how much they've hyped this.. should it really take 2 days to 'take-off'??

And does it negate my point about radio being radio - and not tv?

Should have know better that to come on here and make a negative comment about the show.. would be nice to get a genuine considered unbiased reply for once, and not a knee-jerk 'oh no!! someone has slagged the show off we must find a way to prove him wrong..' reaction..

Depends really, if someone tells you a story, do you need to see a full videographic representation of it in order to appreciate it, or can you use your imagination and picture what it is they're telling you about?

People on here have slagged certain parts of the show before. Like I hated the fact that 2 contestants on CPC were on together for the better part of 3 weeks not too long ago and some people agreed with me and others thought it was great. Thankfully, CPC has gone back to its standard self since then. Also, some people are not fond of the golden hour either mainly because the same years and same songs pop up time and time again and therefore it gets tedious for people who listen to it every day like this forum. We still love the show as a whole but from time to time, certain things come about that not everyone is in agreement with.

And I think they deemed it as toughest game on radio and not toughest quiz hence the title of this thread is wrong to begin with.

Also, the whole marathon show was on the red button and online and that was a great success whether you watched it or listened to it just because you never knew what would happen next. I enjoyed the hell out of the Thursday night-Friday Morning section while I was in work listening to it and didn't need to wish that I could be watching James Corden singing Goldigger etc.

Regarding the Golden Hour, praise indeed for the idea of bringing a bit of the weekend into the studio in the form of Vernon Kay a couple of weeks back - thats the kind of variety I like the idea of, a Brucie bonus. :)

I enjoyed it too.. very much.. in hte evening when I was not at work and able to watch. But I think theres a difference between watching a 1-time record braking radio event on the red button, and broadcasting regular radio features that are heavily focused to televisual features.

I'm sorry but I just feel that if a listener can not benefit from the full experience of a radio show unless they are in-front of a computer / television at time, then the point of it being a radio show feature has been completely missed. Just because the technology is there to incorporate predominately visual elements.. doesnt mean it has to be utilised.

Well to be honest it was hardly riveting viewing, apart from the bit at the beginning when they all did 'uh-oh' faces, would make a great avatar. The camera wasn't setup properly for when all hell broke loose as the dog came out the cage, I really wanted to see Chris's face at that very second papping himself.

They probably just need the online content, a bit of a listen, a bit of a watch, and some classic Cher, don't forget!

I am very sorry you misunderstood. The thread is 'Quiz' the feature on air is 'game' specifically - if you listen to the intro the wording is 'If you're a member of The Chris Moyles Show Team then this is radio's toughest game' - ask Dom right now, I'm sure he'd agree.

It's a week long game. It needed setting up. It needed the slow build to today's pay off - admittedly yesterday's was a quiter patch in the build than I would have liked - but you would know that had you read previous threads. Even movies, tv shows or soap opera based radio shows need highs and lows. The audience is used to the format and the routine and what to expect by the time you get to the vital bit. Chris gets this which is why he was so sure he knew me well enough to know he wouldn't be the first couple of days.

Check out Radio 1's current tagline - Listen, watch, share. Bonus points to me.

Since writing my original comment, I have taken the time to read the 6 pages.. and there is a quite resounding trend that people feel the feature is far too visual for Radio... as have other recent features been.

I've lost count lately of the amount of times I've been sat in my car questioning what team members are laughing hysterically at.. waiting for Chris to say "For those not watching the web cam.. "xxx" is currently...". As a radio listener its just not engaging, at all.

Whilst reading the 6 pages.. I came across a post by a member named Emmy, who lists perfectly why this - and other visual features just dont work as regular radio segments. As occasional one offs they are different and intriguing, but as regular inclusions they begin to make the listener feel alienated. Perhaps you should have a focus group on this topic?

Its great to push the boundaries in any professional area, but it seem to me this is a case of 'the technology exists so lets use it', and not a case of 'although this technology exists - do we need to use it as much as we do?'

Re the tag line - see comment directly above.. Radio / Watch. The two just dont jive.

I would like to add the I listen to the show regularly and really enjoy it. I dont want to sound like I have an issue with the show (or you personally).. just the visual elements, and how regular and predominant they seem to be becoming.

First off, today's Face Your Fears was an improvement on the previous challenges. Chris does look genuinely scared on the video. But poor Dom has really got the rough end of the deal here! His challenge is so much tougher than any of other 'challenges', it hardly seems fair. I think that 9 out of 10 people would need to summon up a lot of courage to jump out of a plane, whether they had a specific fear of heights and/or flying or not.

They could all have done his challenge on Monday, not said who jumped or who didn't, and then played one reveal out each day. For me, that would have been a lot more entertaining than what has happened this week, and I'm guessing would also have involved a lot less organisation for Aled and the others-although god only knows how the BBC red-tape machine actually works, so it may not have worked out that way at all.

It made me laugh this morning when Aled said they'd had to check for the insurance whether Dom had been telling the truth about his age or using a showbiz one. As for whether he'll do it or not, I'm going to say that he will.

Look, don't get me wrong. We're not tv. We don't want to be tv. If there's a tv camera it's there to film what we do not for us to broadcast to. That there is a clear rule.

When we did the three pilots a few years ago with the cameras in the studio I was sceptical and was quite negative about it. But through trial and error I've seen how having a visual layer adds to the experience - and isn't, I believe essential to enjoying it like watching a tv show would be.

That is why as radio people we think about where mics are placed, how things are picked up, how stories are told and what we can do with it - which is actually very different to how a tv person would have tackled the same scenario.

What I ask you to be careful of is ensuring that just because you KNOW there is a visual stream out there you don't go to a feeling of being left out by default. Almost assuming you're hard done by because you can't see it. Our show has ALWAYS been visual. We've always done it way before a webcam was let anywhere near the studio let alone tv quality cameras. One of the first things I did on the show was to have pot noodle shoved down my back and being told it was insects. We would have streamed that now because it would have added to the experience to see me scream - but the fact that we weren't watched didn't stop us doing it - people just used theatre of the mind which they were happy to do because they knew there wasn't a video stream anywhere.

It seems silly to stop the filming just because of this. We will still to visual things so why not offer the extra experience of seeing it?

Saying that however I agree Tuesday we didn't verbalise what was happening enough. The technical side and the sheer fact that genuine fear was being displayed meant that we were caught off guard to what we were seeing. Wednesday, the problem was the underwhelming task - our painting of pictures was much better. Today we got both right. Tomorrow it'll be the same.

In my opinion that's the bit to work on, not the concept, and not the feature.
