The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues

Just listening to the first link of the new podcast released today.

From 1st July the BBC podcasts aren't going to be called Podcasts. It's going to be called a Free Download. So "Download the Free Download"

I'm sorry but are the BBC on glue these days?! The news jingles "Listen, Watch, Share" and changing the name of the Podcasts to a Free Download? A free download of what?!

What?! The product stays the same but the name changes......?

That'll never catch on, just ask my mates at Snickers/Cif/StarBurst.

That "listen, watch, share" thing is AWFUL. It's the news! Why are they trying to encourage people to share it? It's hardly like retweeting a funny picture.

Yeah, but the Listen Watch Share thing is now the station ID, not just for the news.... I agree though, its ruddy terrible.

Well this was coming I guess, a lot of the BBC podcasts already start with "This is a download from the BBC for more information..."

On a related point (BBC compliance BS) I raised the question of Twitter and any inadvertent promotion of it during the treasure hunt feature. Did anyone else notice this morning when talking about meeting some girls from Geordie Shore (I had no idea who they were either) Chris seemingly wasn't allowed to say Twitter?

I know he's talked before about how management have said he should have a BBC account and then there was the Big Weekend feed of his tweets seemingly without his knowledge?

Now you have said that it all comes together! I wouldn't why Chris seemed to be dodging the issue as to where the picture was and why he was saying he couldn't say where the picture was. And then very quietly said Twitter towards the end.

It's the same BBC BS that stopped the pub quiz questions being posted on Facebook. I remember Aled saying that it "wasn't working" and that it "wouldn't let them post the questions" - all you have to do is post a status - so that was just an excuse, because R1 didn't like it because of all the BS. And now all that has been quietly dropped.

I think the Facebook thing was a genuine incident. I remember seeing the questions on the Chris Moyles Show page but it wouldn't propagate to the homepage feed and even then sometimes it would show and sometimes it wouldn't. Even now, the posts are delayed whereas they weren't before.

That Twitter thing was weird. At the time I vaguely thought it was 'Twitpic' he was trying not to say but actually that probably doesn't make sense. I was too tired to analyse it in any detail tho.

I think it is to do with BBC BS because on the pub quiz didn't they tell us to send our answers to the radio 1 Twitter feed rather than the Chris Moyles Show one and then i seem to remember a conversation about it. And i was also a bit confused when Chris wouldn't mention Twitter earlier

It's the corporate nature of the BBC I can't stand, THIS.....IS.....WHAT....WE.....ARREEE. They got away with it before cos it seemed new - DIGITAL! FM! ONLINE! It's like they're trying to talk like Tony Blair with all these buzzwords EDUCATION...WAR...EDUCATION. But sadly sounds more like a dalek.

A dalek who really likes Cher, somewhat.

Don't like the new Newsbeat jingle at all, the music sounds bad as well (not as bad as the 1998 one but bad nonetheless)

BTW, what's this crap about Twitter now? Really are the BBC that anal that they won't allow them to mention the name, whose sodding business would it damage anyway?

I think the new newsbeat jingle is pretty much universally hated amongst us and the listeners on the show judging by the texts they got this week about it. Only good thing about that jingle is the whole Cher business but other than that, its bland compared to the previous one. Unfortunately, it is going to stay and we have to get used to it whether we like it or not.

Yeah, I do recall that as well because Chris would usually just say Twitter on the get-go whenever he mentioned something about it but kept it quiet this time around. Kind of ridiculous though. Next, he won't be able to talk about anything outside the BBC brand and if that happened, that would make the show really dire! :P

I originally thought it was a Twitter-ban, but I now think could be that Chris has been banned from mentioning his own personal Twitter account (that's where he posted the Geordie Shores photo) -- chrisdjmoyles
He's supposed to promote the ChrisMoylesShow Twitter account, not his own one.
Of course, on his own account, he can mention commercial products, like his CDs, books, C4 show etc. The Beeb don't like that, and they also don't like the fact that his personal account has more followers than any BBC R1 accounts...

Anything with 'free' in front of it attracts more attention i guess, more attraction = more downloads!

Chris asked whether he could mention Twitter on Tuesday's show (I think) and Aled said it was okay.

Really? This week's "Free Download" or "The Chris Moyles Show Free Download this week..." nuts.

Yes the new Newsbeat jingle is awful. It seems they are trying to get all they want to be and all they can do in one quick blurb when they shouldn't be advertising "Hey, look at all we can do!" when they should be stating here is the latest news we want you to hear. I am glad Chris is ripping it by playing Cher. I don't tire of him doing this. Too bad management won't give up this ridiculous thing and either go back to the old one or create a new one.
