The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues

I felt sorry for him and Matt during the clearly failed rooftop suprise. Chris does often talk about doing shows from the roof and so on but he clearly seemed underwhelmed when it actually happened. I liked the idea but it just seemed as if Chris (and the rest of the team) were uninterested in it.

Agreed, but I think Chris was just in one of those moods - he wanted to get the show over with and go home. I don't think he could be bothered feigning enthusiasm. Also, Chris' act (like any other DJ) is having the jingle machine and the records at their beck and call - take them away from him and he just seems a bit lost. If they were to do a whole show, with the right equipment and some features on the go, it would probably work well, today just seemed a bit halfway house, Chris had no equipment to control and was time-limited. A good idea in principle, but one which probably needs to be structured around a full show.

I mean OK it was never gonna be like this:

But there was sunshine, a badly shot video and a view of the new broadcasting house. Maybe it's more for rockstars, I haven't listened to the show yet but it seems theres no harm in a bit of air given that they work in a basement.

Chris has got a cold, according to what he is saying on Twitter, so maybe that's why he wasn't as enthusiastic about being on the roof.

Yeah agree, seemed a little strange to arrange it for a Friday anyway (with the Golden Hour and now the 10 second takeover) so he had to come back down. If it had been arranged (rather than being a surprise) it would of worked better, may of got people turning up on the street etc (perhaps management didn't want that happening).

Didn't Steve Wright do a show from the roof (sure there was footage in the documentary Chris did)?

Chris Evans did, that's where that U2 clip comes from.

I'm sure I've heard Chris and Dave broadcasting from the roof before. It might have been when they were on afternoons, I don't know - but I'm sure I remember them doing it, and getting into trouble for it.

I did feel sorry for Aled in his surprise for the team. Chris was in a really sick mood that day and wasn't in the mood for anything. Dave seemed to echo Chris's mood for some reason.

Sorry got my R1 documentaries mixed up it was actually the 'Blood on the Carpet' show which had Steve Wright on the roof doing the breakfast show (before he quit).

By the way if you haven't seen it it's worth watching just for the not bitter at all Adrian Juste.

It was visual awkward moment :-|

Dave in the paddling pool was slightly amusing.

It was good and I could see it working as a recurring feature on a Friday perhaps. They need a Swingball or something up there!
