The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues

Bit late to this as I'm only listening to Friday's show this evening on the iplayer, but I can't believe how awful this feature was! Some of Dave's features are jokingly called rubbish, but at least they're generally funny, or at least can be heard on the radio! The feature would have been fairly non-inclusive even if the clues had been read out on-air, but at least you could guess the answers, even if you couldn't get to the mugs. The way it was done, only people at home or already at work on their computers could really get involved, though are people who are at home or work really in a position or inclined to go out searching for mugs? Saying that, on hearing the clues I was still massively unimpressed by the feature. Bad show Aled...

If the feature had one saving grace, it was the welcome comeback of the Treasure Hunt theme tune. 8)

I did find the majority of the feature cringe BUT, when it transpired that they were directing people to the totally wrong town it had me in stitches and one of my favourite moments of the week. Every cloud and all that..

Yep, Aled did take the headstaggers with his obsession with all things internet in having a radio competition that you couldn't enter if you were only listening to a radio (next week he's trying to win the Monaco Grand Prix while sitting in a shopping trolley in Thurso) & his woeful knowledge of Essex towns also helped, but you knew from the start that it would be a total ballix & it added to the surreal hilarity of it all.
I thought it was great.

This is why they need to be very careful with the escalation of visual broadcasting of radio shows. I like it when it happens occasionally for a specific reason or a special treat, but if they are broadcasting on the red button or wherever permanently it wouldn't be long before listening to it on the radio was pointless. I didn't like the treasure hunt at all for precisely that reason, it was a television feature and I was listening to the radio.

Really?!?!?!

Who cares if it was a twitter/facebook feature. sometimes they do a feature where you have to text in....but I cant if I'm driving....it doesnt make it the worse feature ever!

They just wanted to get the twitter/facebook numbers up a bit and this was a good excuse.

They where giving away mugs that nobody wanted anyway

I think loads of people would want one, even considering Sam has left, they're a nice souvenir of the show.

lol! Lighten up! It was a feature, one of many that we do. Our job is set stuff up and Chris and Dave run with it and make it funny (as happened here).

There were also other considerations to take into account - i.e. a bit of online love - as we haven't done much lately. As DevilsDuck said it's no different to a text in feature. Only a small percentage of the listeners would take part in a text feature which we then reflect on air. At least this one was free to take part in.

I'm afraid there will be more online stuff - and things hidden in our podcast to enhance the full Chris Moyles Show 360, rather than it just being the radio.

I thought the feature was alright. Think there have been worse stuff on the show but it was funny when they screwed up the location. Would have been funny if they got texts (probably did but don't recall being read out) where some people got annoyed that they were at the wrong location and there was no mugs.

Yeah, HRH Prince Al has spoken, chill out, dickwads.

This is one thing i'm looking foraward to with my new phone, the chance to join in with Twitter stuff.... Can't wait to get twatted!

It was hilarious. I would have found it a bit annoying if Chris and Dave had taken it seriously, but they used it as comedy material for the show, not just as a competition for its own sake.

I'm not sure seeing the "other end" of the event, in Chelmsford or Colchester or wherever it was would have made it any better, and I personally enjoy the other video elements to the show.

We had a streaming cam - and could have streamed it publicly but this was an experiment as it was, and we weren't sure whether it was fair that people turning up would be automatically streamed to our audience. We may do in the future though.

Then you could have shared our pain at seeing an empty reception for 30 minutes!!

I have a twitter account, but do not use it as social networking sites are banned at the office, and as I have tried to explain before the chances of me getting time on the PC out of office hours is slim. At least with my smart phone I can do jazz like that in the spare odd minute without having to clear the PC of children/partner.

In our defence it was on Twitter / Facebook and the Radio 1 blog - all in all just shy of 2 million users, certainly more than 1.5 million.

Something that strikes me considering how careful the BBC is about giving undue prominence to brands etc. Is how you are able to indirectly promote two commercial companies on air? I've no problem with it but just would be interested to know?

Is it just accepted that the BBC needs to be on these social networking sites to connect with it's audience?

I didn't hate it, just found it hard to feel part of it because I couldn't join in. And I for one would LOVE a mug, and I am in Essex - I was miffed I could get out and find it!

Yeah, it seems like the internet "doesn't count" -- there's a lot of "Google this", "Google that". If I was running Microsoft's Bing (not that anyone uses it), I'd be thinking "What happened to 'other search engines are available'?"
