Always wanted to know something about the show? This is the place to 'Ask Aled'!

I did notice that they hadn't bothered to order any more.

PS. Has your run out because it's popular or because there were less of them...?

I have really enjoyed the golden hour this morning and its very rare that i get to listen to it live. And hearing sweet Caroline was brilliant but how come you can play that but not use a year before 1990 on the first half of the golden hour?

If yes, reply, or email: oliver-dunk@hotmail.com

if i were you, i'd run that book past a sub-editor to check for spelling and grammar.

also, it seems a silly subject to publish a book on - given that not only does the gadget industry have extensive forums, youtube channels, blogs and general events dedicated to keeping their audiences up to date...but it's also an ever changing area which will probably render your book obsolete within a year, if not months.

i learner this the hard way, when i wrote my dissertation on social media.

Hey Aled, apologies if this has been asked before. Is there ANY possibility of the pre-1990 song Golden Hour embargo being lifted? I have vague memories when the Golden Hour first started of Chris playing songs from the 80's...but then suddenly all the years were never any earlier than 1990!

I like the Golden Hour, but it really does sound repetitive now, hearing the same 90's dance tracks and pop from the 2000's...

I really don't believe any of the Golden Hour 1st half hours were before 1990 unless for a special reason. Management wanted nothing before 1995 and I think Chris pushed that to 1990.

In my opinion today's was so good because they're songs I remember. More of our listeners will enjoy the Golden Hour ifthey get the 'oh I loved this song' emotion to us playing them.

With our demographic being 15-30, 15 year olds weren't BORN until 1996! And they wouldn't remember music for a good few years after that. Chris is right that the majority of our listeners will know of songs before their time but ita those songs that should be played (ie in the last hour - the GOLDEN songs) not the first where you'll play 6-8 songs from the year - they won't all be Golden if you've not heard of the majority of them.

Aled, is there any plans for doing any shows or karaoke shows in Scotland again specifically in the Glasgow/Edinburgh area. I would love to see you up in Scotland more often, it does feel like we get a fleeting visit from the team but nothing like a week north of the border. The last time the team were North of the Border for a extended period of time was the Big Weekend in Dundee. Please come up it would make my day.

If I recall rightly, when Chris first started doing the Golden Hour, to coincide with R1's 40th anniversary (2007?), he wasn't restricted as to the year. I have a definite memory of being on the tram to work and hearing songs by the Beatles and Stones. I think it must only have been when it was decided to make it a weekly feature that the year restrictions were put in place (correct me if I'm wrong Aled).

I agree with Bob's opinion that the GH is starting to become repetitive and that it would be nice to hear older tracks sometimes. But I also understand the demographic thing. As much as I don't like it, I'm way out of target :)

Good idea.

We've done the show from Inverness, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee and more recently Perth - but I agree, we should do more.

Consider it on my ideas list.

Aled, very geeky question here. Of all the themes/beds used on the show, what in your opinion is the best one?

Only asking because if anyone's listened to the show for any length of time, you'd know they all have their merits individually. For me, the old jazzy theme sounds great.

Aled I was wondering are you going to be doing anymore Parody albums?

Always playing the album. Brillant songs

The parody album is a personal project of Chris' not a show project so I can't really give you any info on that. Chris has mentioned on the show he'd like to do a new one though.

The latest one: Movie is my favourite - I think it sounds huge. I can't think of any other show that would have it's own music created and performed itself that would sound that big. :) love it

As a casual jingle fan, I'll just state here that my favourite jingles for Radio 1 in general have to be the ones produced by JAM Creative Productions in Dallas, such as 'Closer to the Music' and 'The Ultimate One' used in the 80s and 90s. Would love to hear some new JAM jingles in the Golden Hour, considering the relationship JAM had with Radio 1 for over 20 years, instead of just the old ones being replayed.

It came up because they were talking about going to Carlisle soon, and discussing other times when they all had to live together whilst doing the show on location. It was when they were in either Portugal or Germany, can't remember which one, that they discovered Aled had brought and was putting together some sort of robot.
