I'm not across what is in people's contracts so I don't know whether it's a contractual thing or merely that Ben would like the Chris Moyles Show brand to be present on breakfast even when we're not. (A strong brand is very important - even still now)

bmstinton93 wrote:Secondly, I was listening to the Dev show a couple of days ago where he was playing back old clips from the early bit. Does that mean that the BBC still have some of these shows archived? If so, Can we have them?

Programme archiving was down to the programme teams of the time until about 3 years ago when all programmes were stored automatically.

Luckily for us I've kept every show since I've worked on it :)

I don't know where we stand with me handing over tapes of the show. Maybe when the day comes and the show ends and we need a home for them I'll sneak them out under my jacket and send them to you :)

mcmahonman wrote:Aled a quick play list based question. Does what record label or pressures from that label have any effect on if a song gets play listed or not? Or is it all down to the track, the artist and whatever hype that the track has? (i.e. youtube, coverage in media)

That's a very complicated answer to give. The honest answer - and part of the reason why playlist lasts so long - is that we look at SO many different angles when considering a song. Yes the record company plays an important part - it'd be naive of me to say otherwise - the relationship between Radio 1 and record companies is very important - look at the line up of Radio 1's Big Weekend - we couldn't do that without support from the record companies.

When it comes to a song though the support of a record company wouldn't be enough to keep a song on playlist. Chart position, producer opinion, specialist support, listener feedback, panel testing, DJ support, online stats are all factors we take into consideration when deciding whether a song should go on, how high it goes and how long it should stay on the playlist.

No. Sara leads the team in her own right - as far as I'm concerned Sara shouldn't be a part of the team.

Thanks Aled its nice to hear that all the old shows have been kept. And hopefully we'll get our hands on them some day to add to our archive.

Hi Aled :)

On yesterday's show you mentioned that The Chris Moyles Show's entry for the Sony Awards used the same three clips for all three categories that you applied for. As a massive fan of the show, would it be possible for you to say what that clip was? Thanks :)

Ps Well done for getting nominated for the two awards, the show really deserves it! :D

Hi Aled

I was wondering who comes up with idea of pranking each other?

Have 'the team' or who ever is in charge got any plans to erm... write some new / funny material at any point?

I stopped listening in December 2009 because i left my job, recently i've started a new job where radio one is on. Monday was the first time I'd heard the show since 09.

You're still doing the same shit, shit being the operative word. Monday night pub quiz, car park catchphrase... really lame, tired old crap.

Today you spent half an hour doing a toilet tour of radio 1 for Olly Murr's???

Pathetic.

Truely Pathetic.

I was actually a massive fan of the show for about 3 / 4 years from around 2004 / 2005 onwards, but then i grew increasingly tired of the show as it seemed to stagnate, nothing new was ever brought into it.

Instead of evolving the show to keep the interest of long term listeners, they take the lazy option of keeping everything the same and just rely on new audience members to keep up the numbers, teenagers and so on replacing listeners who switch off as they get sick of hearing the same thing for years on end.

Jesus, something tells me the average of the show is higher than you'd think.

Get the feeling the old Dom clips have run their course, Frothy Bevvie and Brains and Beauty aside. Now, a clip of Dom from another radio station, pre-Radio 1, that's what we need.

I don't remember actually. They were made in December and one was made for Music Broadcaster showing Chris' talents off, and the other for Best Entertainment (or something) and Best Breakfast highlighting the show.

If I find a list I'll come back here and post it.

That's part of the DNA of the show so we've all brought to the table at some point or other an idea to prank a member of the team. Me with Comedy Dave, us at Chris, them at me, Chris at Dom etc.

Research shows that people like routine. No matter what's going on in your life, whether it's stressful, upsetting or challenging you always know you can turn on your radio between 6:30 - 10 Mon - Fri and have your second family - your Chris Moyles Show team. You know that on your commute to work having the comfort blanket of Car Park Catchphrase on air will more often than not make you smile - and that's a comfort.

Sure, things get tiring and when enough of us on the show feel that's the case we'll rest something to stop it burning out but my personal ethos is evolution not revolution. When you're in charge of Radio 1's most successful ever breakfast show which, even last year broke a handful of listening figures (even when in it's 8th year) you have a responsibility to look after that and only tweak it where necessary. To throw something out of the window merely for the sake of not 'doing the same shit' would be irresponsible. In my job you have to devolve fact from your own opinion, it doesn't really matter whether you or I think something is 'really lame' or 'tired shit' it's whether the audience en masse feel that. And if they do - we'd soon know it, either immediately on text or in a few months time through listening figures.

The toiler tour is an excellent example of how we can take something quite mundane and have Chris turn it into funny radio and online video.

Thank you for your comments though, I will file it under 'unhappy listener'.

I'm really sorry - I haven't. Feel free to send them again, I might not use them just yet - we've kind of covered the Dom clips and I might wait until the right time to start them up again.
