I didnt hear the census thing but I do think that Olly has played up to image of being a bit dim though.

Regarding the census, it was amsuing to read someone attempt to justify Olly not knowing about the census because he has only been alive for two prior to this one! 8O This one was his third, and I dont think many of us on here have been alive for more than three or four yet I think we all know what a census is!!

Well i think Yuds has been alive for more census' than 3 or 4...! :S

I have no idea how old she is, but to have had more than four you need to be over forty and I don't think MANY on here are over forty.

The census thing this morning was like, have you been living under a rock for the last couple of months. TV, Radio and newspapers have been about the census. 2 more shows of Olly then Dave is back. Realistically do you think that Chris and Olly will actually be going out buddies after the show is over? IMO NO.

I am an oldie and am surprised at what little the young folks nowadays know. Remember he lives at home so it's all done and he would have been very young when the last one was out. Not something you worry about at that age. As for the papers. I think he has been slightly busy for the last 2 years to worry about what's in them! So I think that is a bit harsh.

Secondly Chris and Olly have been out drinking several times. I can see that they will be friends. The team seem to love him and I think he has been great on the show. I do love Dave so I am not a Dave hater.

Olly seems like a lovely bloke, a genuinely nice guy, but this isnt working in my opinion. On the first day I thought he did well, and I still think he is, but the dynamic of the show is totally off kilter. Dom is trying to play a bigger part in the show and Aled is trying too hard.

I heard the first half hour today on the way into work and then tried on a couple of occasions to tune in when I got there but I found it uncomfortable to listen to so for the first time ever I actually chose not to listen to The Chris Moyles Show (other than The Golden Hour and the odd poor interview I have never, ever chosen not to listen).

Maybe I should have given todays show a bit longer but it just didnt feel right. When I did tune in I heard Chris repeatedly getting Dom to repeat some phrase about a toilet (I think) and then I heard a bit about the toilet tour. It all sounded terribly forced to me.

No criticism of anyone, by the way. I wasnt complaining when Olly was announced and I imagine they thought it was a calculated risk, but it hasnt quite worked for me. There is a massive difference between being a guest for a couple of hours and being a team member for 17 and a half.

That said, I will tune in again in the morning and give it another go.

I guess, ultimately, it's credit and justification to Chris and Dave working together for the last 13 years. When those two are broken up, the whole manner of the show changes so much. I'm sure things would settle down in time, but with just 4 days* to work with, the settling in period is over before it's begun. It's not really helped by coming straight after a 2-week break - the show normally takes a day or two to get back down to business anyway, a replacement for Dave makes this only harder. The show was OK today, certainly not as bad as Tuesday's which was dreadful. Still wasn't right, though. The Jon Culshaw bit was chronic, the reveal took far to long to come and there were a few awkward silences as Olly knew it wasn't Simon Cowell impression from the first second and they struggled through it for what seemed like ages :D

I was surprised they bothered to get a replacement for Dave, actually. In the back of my mind I've always though Chris and Dave would end their working relationship once they finished on Radio 1, much like Mark and Lard did. Seems like Chris has found working in the zoo format with a sidekick works best, something you can't really argue with, given the show's massive success. I'd certainly hope that if Chris moved on to another radio station, Dave would move with him.

* Olly did say he was only there for 4 days, did he not?

He's 27. He would have been 17 when the last one was out - old enough to actively participate in giving answers about his religion and so on. (I had to look this up - I assumed from his demeanour that he was about 20.) I wouldn't say that his stupidity 'winds me up', but it did surprise me.

Not when the head of the household do it !! He would not have known. I was not involved with that sort of thing at that age...

You do not know what Witham people are like !

I assume you mean me. Olly is 26. This would be the 2nd one in his life ? The house owners would fill these in maybe when the 'children' are at school or college !! Hence not knowing!

He should still be fully aware of this one. It has been in the news a lot recently and he should have been filing it in himself at 16 anyway

No, one person fills it in for the household, each individual doesn't have to do their "own" bit. Its not designed like that.

The census doesn't ask or make reference to a 'head of household'. It asks you to designate any person in the residence as 'person one' and they fill it out. I did ours, so I was 'person one', but there's nothing to designate me 'head of the household' - I'm not the main money earner. And as Ben said, at 16/17 you're plenty old enough to make your own decisions about your religion and nationality!

That's why i think everyone should fill it out because one person for example may have not come out as gay and therefore will need to fill their part out.

Chances are, if you haven't come out as gay to your parents, you ain't going to be doing it on the Census. Especially when your parents can easily go in and see what you've written.

Mm, indeed. I did all ours, but I made sure I asked Dan what he wanted me to put for stuff like religion, cos I'm a Christian and he's not. It's like I said, it doesn't 'annoy' me that someone would not know what a census is - takes a lot more than that to annoy me! - but it does make me despair a little bit that people are so culturally ignorant. The census is vital to future generations, so whether someone is 16 or 26, they should make it their business that their opinions and feelings are voiced as part of it. And a 26 yr old definitely shouldn't be leaving it to his parents!

Ah, you mean sensei, not census. No wander we have such confusion.

So, just to clear up:

Census = Japanese for teacher/professor
Sensei = Decadal quiz for government statistics.

Ok?
