CHRIS Moyles looks certain to stay on as Radio 1 breakfast host for at least TWO more years - after earlier being lined up for the boot.

The motormouth, 37, was tipped to be axed in July when his current one-year deal ends.

But Chris confirmed last night: "I'm staying. We've just got to finalise it. I hate saying that because I like them to think I might leave and then see if I can get nicer perks - like they might pay for tea or coffee in the morning."

BBC chiefs feared his regular listeners were getting too old for the station, but have now realised they have NO ONE to replace him. Greg James and Matt Edmondson, both 25, were thought to be too green. Chris - who fronts a C4 quiz show - is in talks and said to be pushing for a three-year deal, which would give him a decade on the brekkie show.

Bosses are believed to be willing to pay him £500,000 a year over two years.

A source said: "Talks are going well. He wants to stay and the Beeb wants him. The question is for how long."

It's from The Sun, but his quotes are taken from the interview on Fern earlier, he basically said he would stay but they're just ironing out the contract so unless there's some major last minute issues, he'll be staying. :D :D Not sure where The Sun have got the two-to three year angle from, though.

They'll be needing a statue of him outside Fulham..err I mean Radio 1, at this rate!

I'm glad he's staying, he is to Radio 1 what Wogan was to Radio 2, defining an era. A 10-year stint looks a bit more hopeful.

Good. Funny, was only thinking about this (Moyles R1 future) last night.... I agree, at this stage, they would struggle to replace him with anyone that would even approximate his popularity.

Yeah for the tubby motor mouth.

I am one happy bunny to hear this, and given where the quotes came from, it has a ring of authenticity to it even though its from The Sun. Chris really is the absolute best.

Great!

Now let's get Olly signed up and ditch the vitty, and we can have a truly great show!

Let's be honest, vitty was hand picked as the dullest, most unfunny person available so as to not steal any limelight from Chris (and boy, did he find a stonker). Now Chris is so well established surely his ego could handle having a sidekick with some character?

It's a bit worrying though that no suitable potential replacement could be found. I wonder how much that fact weighed the decision in Chris's favour?

Assuming this is all true, of course.

It's not. The crap that you just spouted is not, that is.

This constant anti-Dave waffle you keep spouting is bloody tiresome.

People are allowed to not like Dave aren't they? I love him personally, but hey, there are people out there who think Scott Mills is funny. I think I'd find pneumonia more entertaining than Mills, but each to his own.

On reflection I could have phrased that better. I was just a bit annoyed at yet another post from him slating Dave when I think all of us are fully aware that he cant stand the man. How many times does he need to state the same thing?

Mind you, I do go on about the Golden Hour being crap quite a lot.

true what about having both olly and Dave then everyone happy

I was also only thinking the other day when listening to the marathon show podcast, I really wouldn't be surprised if Chris is now aiming to reach the 10 year target.
When they do go, whenever that time comes they will go out on a high. Chris has good relations with most of R1 management despite the rants, also they know at this current time if he leaves then Capital will snap him up causing the R1 breakfast show to have a massive drop in listeners no matter who they replace him with.

Good news, but I would like to see him reach the ten year mark. So three years instead of two would be better!

I'm not really surprised it's going this way after the terrific marathon show. It not only showed how big an audience he has, but I think a few around Radio 1 have a new respect for him. Maybe even those who didn't like him previously now that they've had a chance to work with him.

Yes, I agree. He is already the longest serving breakfast DJ so to get 10 years would obliterate that record. By then he may feel ready for change of station as well. As it stands he still feels Radio 1 is the place for him, although I still think this rumoured move to sirius holds appeal for him at some point in the future.

Delighted for Chris if this is true. I think the recent 52 hour broadcast really showed that he is still the best show in town! The whole age question is nothing but a distraction when so many young people continue to tune into the show.
#433861
please...age isn't really a factor of presenting shows on R1, specially when you have Annie Nightingale, Westwood and Pete Tong still on the air (not to mention John Peel who was on until his 60's). Would be great to see Chris signing for two more years, because he seems to look comfortable in Radio 1 at the moment.

EDIT: Too used to Vbulletin forums, sorry for the extra post.
