The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues

Yes, as it is the best song ever and she is now my favourite artist! Seriously though, no I wouldn't want to hear it every Friday because that is much worse than McFly but that feature like I said before has outstayed its welcome but they going to keep on doing it due to the fact they have nothing else on a Friday besides the usual and since the F1 season is starting again, they are going to do the chats with Jake Humphrey. Now I find these pretty dull but that is just because I am not into F1 and they always go on for longer than I believe they are intended but I am sure some people enjoy these so that is alright.

Personally I'd rather Radio 1 played more new music from a wider music genre that the usual crap pop/Urban/R'N'B arse that they put out. Would it kill them also to play songs before 2008 in general I mean Jesus do they really think 18 year olds have never listened & enjoyed songs before 1999, I always find it a little bit laughable that a boss in his mid to late 40's thinks youngsters only like music made in the last few years, and in all honesty if they do, do you really want them as your audience?

They are the audience. They can't just change their audience because they decide they don't like them anymore. I think the radio 1 playlist needs to cater to everyone. If you want music you like, listen to your iPod i guess. Not many people listening to radio 1 will like everyone, but most people will like something. I guess being a mainstream station that's the way they have to make it.

18 year olds are not the audience -- they are the target audience. That's a big difference.

According to a recent(ish) report, Radio 1 is listened to by 33 year olds, not 18 year olds. 33 year olds would probably like to hear music from 1991/2 onwards...

I am with stinson on this one, there are some things they have on that I don't mind and actually like but one of the things that bugs me and it probably has to do with a LOT of the main radio stations is that the playlist never differs a whole lot from show to show whereas a song you might have heard in the morning gets played again several hours later. Like there are people who listen to a station all day long and will get annoyed at that by the day's end. I've said before that I only listen to the breakfast show and the Surgery and that's it so it wouldn't bother me as much as others.

They seem to have a fixation on everything David Guetta though since his songs tend to get played quite often and I don't see the whole hoopla about him since the songs sound pretty much the same to me just with a different vocal artist every time.

Variety though would be good but that's what I got my mp3 player for anyway. :) Now I am off to go to Belfast and listen to Late Night with Colin Murray on the way there (a great show with great variety).

Some of us are really old, we don't hear well.

Or read for that matter :P

*giggle*

And some of the chart stuff is incredible, like Adele - but I agree with most of you, it really DOES get very repetitive after a while. It's why I don't listen to any daytime shows, even though they're targeted at 'me'. Saying that though, a lot of my 13-19 year old mates refuse to listen songs after they've become "old" (which is... hmm. After about 3/4 months?), so Radio 1 are doing the right thing.

P.S. Remove the vocals from the Rebecca Black song and the backing track is actually really fun! I wish they'd released a karaoke version.

EDIT: Oh no! I'm not super-shiny new any more! *sniffles*

There must be dozens of songs containing references to Friday.

Why don't they do a different one every week I wonder.

And no, I wouldn't rather have Rebecca Black. She is only slightly more annoying than that mcfly number.
