Aled,

I know this isn't really a question, so I hope no one minds me posting this hear, I just wanted to write something about the show. I've been listening since the days of the afternoon show, when I was at uni, I used to come home and pretty much on a daily basis, I would come home and switch my radio on and listen to the full show! I used to laugh out loud and listen to Chris/Dave and various team members like Will, Melinda, Lizzie & yourself as BB Aled and it was the best thing ever. I loved the show so much!

I remember Chris getting the show on c5 and being gutted as i never got c5 where i stayed. (possibly a blessing in disguise) I was then delighted that Chris got the breakfast show which has turned out to be a huge success, with the current team of you, Chris, Dave, Dom, Tina, Sam & Matt plus Carrie & Rachel, not only maintaining a quality show, but working so hard to make it even better. I not only feel the show is funny and entertaining, but even beyond that, I feel that I learn about some of the technical aspects of Radio from listening to the show! Without the show I don't know what id do with my 3 and a half hours most morning's, to me its the best show of its & similar genres on both tv and radio.

My main point is I want to say thank you so much to Chris and Dave for doing the Marathon show, it was for such a good cause and they did so well to stay up for that time and still make the show entertaining! I know everyone says it was addictive viewing but it really was! Would it be as addictive if the challenge wasn't there? I can honestly say i'm not sure, but i do know this, If the Chris Moyles Breakfast show was on the red button all the time, I would watch it, because I love the show and i think getting to see what goes on enhances the show! I want to say thank you to you, Sam & Matt for all the hard work you put in, the show is so well produced and you all did such a great job getting so many guests and making the show so enjoyable. Also to Radio1 for letting this happen, I think (hope) it shows the good relationship you all have with the bosses at radio 1. I learned so much about DJ's id never have otherwise listened to, I really enjoyed listening to Mistajam & Nick Grimshaw... but the highlight without doubt was Kissy Sellout, who I thought was brilliant.

Anyway I'll stop my ramble now but congratulations on the best thing I've ever heard/seen the Chris Moyles show do and keep up the good work! Hope you all enjoy your holiday, its well deserved.

Thanks Again

Jason

P.s If you could all just stay on 24/7, then that would be great, I wouldn't have to worry about what channel to watch :P kidding!

I may not have put it in exactly the same way, but - what he said. Thank you Aled and Sam and Matt (yes, even him....!) and all the rest of the team - and of course Chris and Dave. It was a surreally brilliant three days.

It is, although I am not 100% sure I have spelled it correctly. Its far too early on a Monday to really care though.

Hope your having a good time in Washington Aled. I have a couple of questions for when you get back.

Firstly, why does Scott mills still use the Chris Moyles Show imaging when he covers for Chris when its an entirely different show.

Secondly, I was listening to the Dev show a couple of days ago where he was playing back old clips from the early bit. Does that mean that the BBC still have some of these shows archived? If so, Can we have them?

It's "The Chris Moyles Show with Scott Mills" isn't it? In Chris' contract. Sure he's mentioned it before, whether it be on-air or in one of the books.

Now this I'd love to know. They even had dry clips of Paul Turner from back in the day. Is that from his archive or Radio 1's? The Early Bit clips were very high quality - I wouldn't have throught they were off-air tapes recorded on, say, a cassette, where I think the clips of the Simon Mayo Marathon Show came from. I've always wanted to know exactly what materials Radio 1 hold and what they throw away, as I consider junking any TV or radio material as cultural vandalism, especially when it's publicly funded. If the British Library can keep a copy of every book, then we should have a body to keep copies of our audio/video history.

And if he's going to use it why can't he at least use it properly (eg not coming out of the news with the before the news cut)

Why?

Wouldn't surprise me if It's probably something to do with music licensing, or the fact that it's 'technically' not meant to be taped if they've disabled the feature on the red button on other platforms.

Aled a quick play list based question. Does what record label or pressures from that label have any effect on if a song gets play listed or not? Or is it all down to the track, the artist and whatever hype that the track has? (i.e. youtube, coverage in media)

It's an internal thing - if you record the channel (and therefore watch it) it doesn't count as a 'red button' watch and it doesn't get counted. I don't think we should be advertising that.

You have no idea how huge it is within the BBC that just under 3 million people watched us on the red button - so I think this is the right thing to do.

Thanks Jason.

As the dust settles on this event - I think even we (who have done a lot of stuff in our time) feel that this was big - and will quite possibly be the biggest thing we will have ever have done. I think our challenge from here on is to manage firsts that are different from just sheer size!

As for the marathon - you're right, Grimmy, MistaJam and Kissy were definite highlights - and I think the marathon will shape the future of the show - there's definitely more to do with these DJs.

Thanks again for your comments!
