"Greg James to take over Chris Moyles Breakfast Show

Greg James has been picked to take over The Chris Moyles Breakfast Show when Moylesy decides it’s time to hang up the mic.

The decision was made by bosses at the Beeb as they reckon they need groovy, cool kids like Greg at the helm of Radio One and not old 30 something grandpas like Chris:

‘Greg is the future of Radio One. He’s in his 20s, cool and a star on the rise’ a BBC source told The News of the World. ‘We are well aware Chris is a huge star but we have to look to the future because someone who is nearly 40 can’t really be hosting a show aimed at teenagers’.

The news will come as a shock to Scott Mills fans as it seemed for a long time, Scott would be Moyles’ natural replacement:

“Unfortunately for Scott, he’s just too old to get the breakfast gig now because the station is meant to be targeting teenagers and people under 24” continued the big gob BBC insider which means that at 25, unfortunately Greg does not quite meet the Radio One listener requirements. Though, we can see what he means, Scott is a frankly ancient 36…

However, Moyles fans rest assured the switchover won’t be for a while:

“Greg is most definitely the heir apparent and it means we will have to have a discussion with Chris about how long he will be willing to stay on for. We are going to be careful not to force Chris out before Greg is ready.’

Back in in 2005 Greg Milward won Best Male at The Student Radio Awards before he was spotted by BBC bosses and rebranded as Greg James. Impressively, Greg is the only DJ ever to go straight from student radio to national. "

All I can say about these stories is if you throw enough darts at the board eventually you'll eventually hit the bullseye. Will probably be a few more between now and contract renewal time. Just pick a different name out of a hat, Grimmy/Fearne/some 'yoof' TV presenter.

I cant see it being anyone other than Greg. If it is not an age related decision It would be lunacy to replace Moyles with Mills. Mills is virtually the same age but totaly inferior to Chris in just about every respect as a Radio DJ.

True but that won't stop some journalist from picking a name out of thin air to fill a few column inches although this particular rumour will probably be repeated in every story about Chris for a while e.g. stories about the marathon broadcast. I can see it now...

"Motormouth DJ Moyles who is rumoured to be on the verge of being replaced by Radio1 afternoon host Greg James completed a marathon 38 hour broadcast yesterday"

Personally I'd rather see it go to a 'radio' person like Greg than some TV 'personality' (even though I'll probably stop listening regularly whoever takes over).

The tweets between the two are the best bit of this.

CM: Hi @gregjames are you starting on the breakfast show as of tomorrow morning cos if you are I may as well go out tonight and have a late one!

GJ: Cool ok. I'll keep Dave, Dom and Tina but Aled and Matt might as well go to the pub with you. Can I bring back Sting Ring?

CM: I just had a call from Nihal saying he's already signed to take over and is starting next week too... Oh I don't know!!

Can't believe his surname isn't actually James. Seems odd for radio 1 to get you to change it.

I keep hearing all the newspapers going 'ohh, he's too old. teenagers aren't interested in old people like that.'. Well i'm 20 now (so an actual proper adult), but started listening to radio 1 when i was about 17, and i've never had a problem with their ages, and never heard anybody else say anything about it.

Yeah as you would be listening to SAGA if that was the case... :P

Didn't Saga get taken over by Smooth a few years ago? ...nevermind it's not important

Yeah, it did, just like a lot of the local commercial stations have been re branded as Capital FM.
