The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues

Great idea to do this, fantastic effort for a good cause.

Anyway.

Things I like and would like to keep.

The General & lets get ready to ramble threads, as this is where most posting is done, and it means you can navigate with the "go" at the bottom rather than using " show new posts"

Having lots and lots of subject related "headers" although logical, makes navigation harder I feel.

Also you won't please everyone on here, and the usual restrained nature of face to face "appraisal" of work will not apply. Yudster has over 90 years of unproven criticism and cynical statement of opinions as facts behind her, but we still love her lots.

Although if you want pure naked madness seek out a "viv" on Unoffical Mills, she was tweeting Mills yesterday with such delightfull "tweets" as " WHO CARE ABOUT YOUR PANCAKES"

Amzin'

Haaha, OK thanks for your input, all noted down, we can understand not everyone will be please but it would be great to get a close as possible!

in all honesty, i do have a problem - and it's with the attitude you're presenting to those who have offered feedback. it's hasn't been in a delicate form, but it's the internet - you'll have to get used to that from forum users of any parish. i'm only new into the business of advertising and social media, but i know enough to realise that even if a brand gets absolutely slated by their audience - they can't fire back and tell them to be grateful.

Lukie wrote:we are doing this for the forum and for Comic Relief, and thought hey why don't we do this when Chris and Dave do there 37 hour support as were avid fans of Chris Moyles and the show.

that's fair enough, but there's no reason to alienate the people who you are doing this massive favour for. i don't want to sour any relations between you and chris (owner of the forum), but please be polite when trying to get feedback from the users. as a brand, it's your prerogative to create a positive impression of yourself as a company - forum users have nothing to gain from being polite to you when you've built no rapport with them, or developed a mutual respect.

seems fair to question your motives if you're going to question the validity of feedback from yuds.

Blimey. Viv on unofficial mills definitely has a screw loose somewhere.

And Blimey there is a lot of arguing going on here today with newbies. I am happy to donate to the cause and will be pleased if this site is better off after but personally i would rather this didn't happen actually. I don't really like the fact that lukie has come on here being argumentative or anything when we only want the best for this site and he has probably never visited here and may now just come along and ruin it slightly

OK that's great, your comments have been taken into account, let's start again, do you have any ideas & input for the site re-design that you would like to share? It would be much appreciated if you do.

I think the site looks good how It is. Maybe Twitter could be incorporated in somehow but then it could make it look messy

The site does need a good re-design. Stop being so stupid, embrace the change and help to make it what we want.....

much appreciated.

i'm not sure if this is something you can do : but getting a really decent smartphone compatible version of the forum (mobile site) would be useful from my POV (but i don't know if that's something shared by all)

perhaps better links (as noone really uses yahoo, msn etc.), things like twitter/facebook could be more useful - and making it look pretty is always a bonus.

as someone who is hesitant of change, i can only really say i like the colour scheme and layout at the moment, for the reasons that it is very neutral, pastel and pleasing to the eye.

my bookmark is setup to direct straight to the new posts page, but a more accessible 'new posts' button which appears on every page might be a good idea.

quick reply is definitely something that should be kept - perhaps enable the use of 'multi-quote' if possible (used on v-bulletin forums)

also, just as an after thought : could there be some sort of scrolling widget which enables all mentions of chris (including the forum and the team) on twitter to be displayed?

edit : flash will stop the site from being viewed on the iphone, which would cut my usage of the forum.

I'm a web designer, I can tell from your site that you are good at your job and I agree that 37 hours for a redesign is quite a feat, though not impossible.

However, doing something for Comic Relief doesn't excuse you from criticism. That is the image you had up, it was safe to assume thart the image was a glimpse into what the site was going to look like. I hope it isn't. The site needs a good redesign and I'm looking forward to seeing it.

After reading through the forum a few weeks ago we did notice that a few users was looking for mobile capability for the chatroom and forum and are looking to optimize the site and the features for mobile & tablet access.

Perhaps better links (as noone really uses yahoo, msn etc.), things like twitter/facebook could be more useful - and making it look pretty is always a bonus.
OK great sounds like people want a good amount of Social Media & Social Media access within the website.

As someone who is hesitant of change, i can only really say i like the colour scheme at the moment, for the reasons that it is very neutral, pastel and pleasing to the eye.
Sure I think most people are hesitant of change, I am one of them. Neutral, pastel and pleasing to the eye - Like it.

Sounds great.

With changing the forum platform I will have to discuss this with Chris for the best options, we need to make sure we can transfer all current posts though between the platforms.

Yes

This is awesome great input, keep it coming guys.

Sure, as a Web Designer & a user of the forum do you have any ideas/input you would like to share?

Twitter and Facebook integration goes without saying; following the team and the site etc. A more streamlined frontpage, for news and announcements not getting lost every time somebody uploads an audio clip. I'm not sure on the forum front, are you staying with phpbb3 or going to a new platform?

A place to discuss the current show would be good, I'm not a fan of chatrooms, but a topic maybe that is current. The forums on dond.co.uk (for Deal or no Deal) have a good system in place where they have a 'Today's Show' thread and updates and discussion as it goes along. I'm not sure how well that would work with a 3.5 hour show but it's something that works, at least for them.

Also, maybe extending user profiles site-wide rather than the site revolving around the forums. For example, commenting on news stories. I know this can be done, I'm just not a fan of the forum powering the site etc. that is just a personal preference though.

And a gorgeous media-driven, modern design would be goood!

I don't know how useful that is, but it's a few ways I feel the site could improve.

As long as it's only positive of course...

As I'm sure you're aware it's very important as a designer to take all comments from the clients and service users (and we as a site ARE your client/service users) and take them on board with a non defensive atitude (and to turn round to someone offering their thoughts and comments and suggest that they are not valid due to that persons lack of experience as a professional designer is, in my opinion unacceptable and VERY unprofessional.)

However, I for one was very excited to read the news about the revamp on the front page this morning and I can't wait to see what you come up with, and turning a website around in 37 hours really is a fantastic challenge, so I wish you all the luck in the world and I will be donating to comic relief on your behalf.

As it is Chris wants to stay with phpbb3 but we will see what the options are available, everything will go through Chris first.

Another good idea, we was thinking this our end.

Defiantly useful.

Thanks again!

Yudster wrote:Ok - hold on, hold on - I just looked at the designers site and saw the new logo - its absolutely AWFUL. Really really bad. That needs to be changed straight away, its truly poor. If they think that is a decent caricature representation of Chris we really are in trouble.

Care to share your designs? You design experience? As well as where it says this is the chrismoyles.net logo?

Ha - I've only just seen this! I am extremely well qualified to state that as a caricature likeness to Chris Moyles, that picture is truly terrible. Whether its the intended logo for the new site or not I really don't care, its clearly intended to be Chris and as such it is dreadful. If you are using it as a demonstration of YOUR designs and design experience, you may need to re-examine your job choices. If however it is NOT your design, you need to re-examine who you use to do your cartoons.

I am also slightly worried that you are going to re-design this site but appear unable to work out how to use this one - or maybe what you are actually doing is pointing out by demonstration the need for a simple multi-quote function. In which case, it worked.

It was a bit rude mind, it was a bit like slagging someone off and them finding out they are stood behind you, them fronting you up, and you, although you had a point, you know for a fact you wouldn't have made it quite so strongly, if you knew they were stood behind you sort of thing, innit.

No, I would have done. I think I was - am - right. Only time will tell if he is going to do a good job though, and I genuinely hope he does. Personally I think that's more important than the £100 or so it might raise for Comic Relief. Like I said, we shall see.
