Thanks for that! made a great listen and I had forgotton about Clive who I think was much underrated and never got a daytime show. Picked up a couple of interesting points - seems one of the 'rules' is that Mayo had to announce the artist + track for each song played. Clive prompted him when he forgot one. So by that virtue, Moyles(who is the DJ) will have to do the same thing and not Dave who is the sidekick (not meant in a bad way Dave).

Now just have to listen to the Peel ones. Are there anymore of these kicking around?

I've been trying today to record the full 24 Hours Panel People, partly as it's a one off and partly to see if it'd be possible to record the Moyles show. Unfortunately, it timed out after reaching 2GB (just under 4 hours). Now, I don't know if it's a limitation of the software or FAT32 or whatever, but this could be problematic for anyone wishing to record the webstream, the only way out would be to cue up a new to recording to begin just as the previous recording reaches 2GB. This shouldn't affect the recording of the Freeview red button stream, however.

Why are you using FAT32?! A 2GB limit would sound like a FAT32 thing.

I wish BBC would somehow archive the 24 hr panel show for a while after it was done but going to be showing highlights on BBC Three instead. Then again, I would probably have just watched some of the shows on there I like or used to watch like Mock The Week (which I used to watch every week but just ain't the same) and 8 out of 10 cats. They will probably do something the same with the marathon broadcast since its on Red button and online etc.

It's not the year 2000 any more! Switch to NTFS. Make that change!

Seriously though, the more people recording, the better. I'll try recording some live stuff later as well. I'm going to try wget -- that's very good at resuming broken streams, so may be a good one. I use that to record other live streaming stuff.

That's a good idea. It'll also make it easier to distribute, as FLVs are hard/impossible to edit. I think I've found a way to remux the FLVs to MP4 (losslessly) though.

You could do the edit (stopping and starting a new record) while a song is being played (which might not be at the show end, but would mean we don't miss anything).

I don't think I'm going to record the online stream, I'm going to focus on Freeview, one tuner will record the Red Button stream, the other one will record Radio 1. Of course, this depends on the one Red Button channel having an uninterrupted broadcast.

Nice idea in theory, but you would need to be awake at the end of each show to make the switchover, unless you had a very good piece of software which did that job for you.

Sure, but if there's any swearing, iPlayer could remove it. By recording it live, there's no escape.

Thanks. However, I have a good Freeview PVR which, barring an unexpected crash or schedule changes, should be up to the job without me having to lift a finger, apart from trimming off the start and finish of the marathon. The Freeview Red Button EPG is presently showing an uninterrupted stream from Wed 0630 to Thu 1000, which I expect to be extended tomorrow, when the EPG updates to show the Thursday schedule. And with Aled's comments on the show today indicating they're not sure how long to go on for, this could increase even more. It'll certainly mean I'll have to record past the presently scheduled finish time of Thu 1930.

I did record an hour of the Freeview stream the other day to get an indication of how big the file would be, we're looking at 40GB at least. I'll probably burn the show to a Blu Ray disc if all goes well, so if there's anyone interested in a copy then let me know. I probably will charge a nominal amount, purely to cover costs, I wouldn't mind giving out the odd DVD for free as blank ones are so cheap, but it looks as though a decent blank Blu Ray still costs a few quid.

The only problem you will have is the overlap between the different programmes starting on the red button so your best to just manually record it as one 37 hour show.

I think my PVR is smart enough to merge continuous programmes into one file.

The Freeview Red Button stream schedule is:

0630 - 1400 - The Chris Moyles Show LIVE
1400 - 2200 - The Chris Moyles Show LIVE
2200 - 1000 - The Chris Moyles Show LIVE
1000 - 1600 - The Chris Moyles Show LIVE
1600 - 1900 - The Chris Moyles Show LIVE

So all being well I'll have one big fat 40GB+ mpg file at the end of it.

i didn't think that you could record the red button streams from say sky plus. Virgin plus. And the freeview recorder.

40gb for a hour stream is fairly big. I'm sure that is a mistake. You can get a decent torrent on normal dvd rip at 700mb and 2gb for a blue ray rip for a hour and a half film.

As a reference. You can get every episode ever of top gear in england, usa and australia at about 95gb. Thats a good 360 hours or so.
The 6 week aaa shows were about 800mb in length. So
A show in full. Go for 1.2gb per show as remember. The camera's are not switched off when the record is played. Times that by a possible 12 shows minimum. So look at about 15gb of memory.

For the live webstream, we're looking at around 200mb/hour, providing the BBC stick to the same encoder profile as they have been using for the recent webstreams on the Radio 1 site.

So if Chris and Dave decide to go for 40 hours, that's around 8gb, which isn't too bad in my opinion.

Yeah it's just a case of grabbing the rtmp link and capping the stream directly. Should be smooth sailing providing the BBC servers don't spit their dummies out with the amount of people trying to watch.

FLV. Never do stream recording, it's a disaster.
