but as she's a BBC employee, her role is as sports journalist (is it not?) so she can return to her job, whilst not returning to the Chris Moyles show (do I have that right?)

For god sake! If The Chris Moyles Show said to Carrie when she was pregnant 'sorry but now that you have decided to have a baby and take a year off you won't be able to come back to your original job' then they would be utter arseholes, regardless of what she is employed as. Tina was there to cover MATERNITY LEAVE not to cover forever, the show wasn't broken before her with Carrie and if people actually think they should bump her off just because she took time off to spend time with her child then they need to get a grip.

well she is able to dictate her working hours [to a certain extent] - so she may want to still be working, but not to the extent which she was before.

surely if she didn't want to work 6.30-10 again, then she wouldn't be back on the show.

I don't think anyone made the link between her taking maternity leave and her not deserving to come back to the show.

If it is her decision not to do the show then that's fine but it's stupid that the BBC should offer her a job share or take the show off her altogether.

Well yeah, a job share for one role as peripheral as sports newsreader would be ridiculous, but equally unless she was willing to return to the whole show then that is the only circumstance where it wouldn't be reasonable for her to return on the show.

Tina could always do Weather...actually Tina is a very good newsreader, best that she continue her career.

Oh because the BBC has money to waste right now? Tina will probably be sports girl for another radio 1 show.

BBC employees don't get paid extra for doing extra work do they? (again, I'm not 100% sure)

Since Chappers left Scott Mills' show, do any other shows have a dedicated sports reader who contributes to a show?

On a loosely related topic, I think Tina is a better newsreader than Carrie.

Same here, I really like her, did from the start anyway, oh well we'll find out in a few weeks then.

Me too. She's good at her main job too, which is a bonus :)

I don't think Carrie was there from the beginning though was she? I've heard them talk about her meeting the team for the first time (and them knowing she'd fit in) and then getting steaming drunk.

Also, I think the first picture has a special 'we're half cut and we've been up for a day and a half' feel to it. The second one has a 'Christ, this is the twentieth different pose, hurry up and take the photo' to it...

Ok, wish I'd never said anything.

However, I don't think it is ridiculous for a new mother to return to work on a part time basis which would pave the way for a job share.

However, anything said on here is just speculation or discussion. I could have said 'how about letting Carrie broadcast from home for a few days each week' and it would equally have no bearing on what will actually happen or any legal standing. It's just a nice "what if".

Juliette Ferrington was the original on the afternoon show, did she have a stint in breakfast?

Why?

Its absolutely nothing to do with us though. Or Tina, or radio 1 or anyone except, at this stage, Carrie. Until the terms of her maternity leave agreement on either side have been fulfilled (which for all we know they already have been), she can come back if she likes, and she can also choose to alter her work pattern or hours within agreed parameters IF she wants to. So if thats what she wants to do, she can. If she doesn't do that, we can assume she doesn't want to.

Much as I'd love to see Carrie back I suspect she will have an extended break from work, and if and when she does return to the BBC it will be in a different role within BBC Sport. The only reason I am saying that is because if she WAS coming back to the Moyles show I think her return would probably have to be in place by now, and I think it would probably be imminent, so I'm sure we'd have heard about it. And if she DOES have an extended break, good luck to her. And at least Tina is great so its not like anyone should mind.

Juliette was one of the many rotated "sports monkeys", as Moyles used to call them, on the afternoon show, actually before April 2002 it was dependant on who was around at the time, certainly with news it used to be:

Carolyn Atkinson
Claire Kavaner
Dominic Byrne
Then whoever else was available

When Claire Kavaner left she was replaced by Claire Bradley, however come April 2002 (earliest recording I have after Carolyn left) it was just Georgina Bowman doing news with whoever was around for sport. I don't ever recall a permante sports reader on Moyles' afternoon show until he moved to Breakfast where Juliette was there from the first show until October 2004.

Shes 'all of a sudden' started posting on twitter again...Hmmmm, i think she'll come back in sme capacity, maybe field reporting or something.

Carrie's current decription of herself on Twitter is 'Former Sport Girl on the Chris Moyles Show - now Army Wife and New Mum!'. That makes me think she's not coming back. I also agree with what Yudster said about things needing to be in place for her return by now.

I reckon I would pay good money to see someone actually flapping their gums.

Aled has got back to me in the "Ask Aled" thread - I asked him if Carrie would be returning to the show or is it save to say Tina is staying on?

His response is below:

"Carrie is not coming back to the show. She has decided to come back to work part-time and will therefore be presenting the sport buletins on the BBC News channel a few days a week."

Much as I would love to have her back, I can't blame her - the Sport Monkey job on the Moyles Show doesn't exactly fit comfortably in with family life I imagine. And we get to keep Tina, which is an excellent bonus.

Can you honestly say that you have not enjoyed Tina's version of Champion or laughed at her diabolical singing?

Her singing (along with Sam's) I find horrible! I don't like it one bit. She's a gooner, but thats the only thing she's got going for her really, imo...
