I was there in December 1999. It was very cold.
Do - Central Park, ice skating if possible. Naff I know, but you HAVE to. Do a Statue of Liberty trip, you'll kick yourself if you don't get those pictures. Mine are amongst my most treasured photos - partly because the ones I took of Manhattan from the boat look so beautiful with the World Trade Centre towers with the sun shining on the windows. Do shopping. Clothes are a lot cheaper there, especially good label jeans. Do FAO Schwarz, the most incredible toyshop in the world. Do the Empire State Building - do it twice in fact, once in the daytime, once at night. Do walking around a lot. I was wandering around once and needed a wee, so I went and used the toilets in Trump Tower just to be indulgent. Do the Columbus Avenue flea market. Do a proper deli and get a decent sandwich - try corned beef and pickles on rye (no, its nothing like the corned beef you get here, more like pastrami). Go to Zabars, and Dean and Deluca. Go to Soho and SHOP. If you are flush, go for * at 21 Club, the famous old speakeasy on West 52nd Street, one of the most atmospheric bars ever. Again if you're flush, another taste of Old New York would be drinks at The Algonquin Hotel on West 44th Street - or better still, stay a night there.
Take many pictures and post them here please.
