The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues

Radio 1 boss Andy Parfitt says he has not reprimanded DJ Chris Moyles for an on-air rant about his pay.

"For me, it was a question of deciding whether he had overstepped the red lines or not. In my judgement, he hadn't," Mr Parfitt said:

But speaking at the Broadcasting Press Guild breakfast, he admitted it "wasn't the best" show he had ever heard.

In a 20-minute tirade on his breakfast show last week, Moyles revealed he had not been paid for two months.

"I'm very, very angry for being put into this position," he said. "I haven't been paid since the end of July and no-one cares about it," Moyles told his audience.

The 36-year-old, who signed a new contract with the BBC in July, said he had considered skipping work, adding: "If they can't be bothered, why should I bother?"

He name checked Parfitt, as well as BBC Director General Mark Thompson, during the segment.

But the station controller said Moyles had not been censured.

"I did not give him a talking to in the sense that I told him off," Parfitt said.

"I reserve the sanction and authority I have for when my judgment is that he has gone over the line. In this case I did not think he had.

"That's what Chris does every day. His show is a long-running soap opera," he added.

I had seen that. Parf Daddy must realise that with the number of listeners that Chris gets they don't want him to quit and head elsewhere (just yet).

But it is good that he's said that. Seems the newspapers have moved on thankfully/hopefully.

Or, he agreed with Moyles. I'd be a bit miffed if I hadn't been paid for two months as well.

a bit?

I get the point about not being paid for 2 months, but if I was being paid £2,000 a day, I might have built enough of a buffer in the bank not to worry about it that much.

Again, the subtext of the rant was Chris leaving his £1.8m home and sleeping on a friend's sofa after splitting up with his girlfriend of 8 years. That's more what it was about, I think.

He hasn't left his home. He spent the night on someone's sofa, but that hardly means he's homeless. Have you never kipped over at a friend's house when you've been in need of a late night shoulder to cry on?

I thought it was one night only as well, but he mentioned being away from home another time, and this week also said he had no access to his Xbox 360. Which means he's not at home. Unless you have information to refute this, it makes the most sense.

I read in one of those DM stories the other weekthat 'it is believed' he's staying at his brother's house whilst Sophie continues to stay at his/theirs(?) until she works out new living arrangements. From what Chris has mentioned on the show (e.g. the x-box reference) I'd be inclined to think that's pretty near the truth, but then we all know how reliable the Mail is, so it could also be utter bollocks.

Are you kidding?

It directly affects the show. Chris even talks about it! I think it (unfortunately) is making for good radio. I hope Chris resolves his personal living and relationship situation, but to think it's not going to leak in to the show is comical.

I dunno what you read but I didn't say anything about the show. Another classic case of internet user reading what they want to read rather than what is actually written. The whole point of the post was that on another thread loads of people are saying how we should all just leave his personal life alone and now you want to discuss his living arrangements and whose sofa he is kipping on!

You said it only affects him and the person he is staying with, I said no, it also affects the show.

And I think you'll find that it was CHRIS who first brought up his living arrangements, not me. And I've not mentioned whose sofa he's on -- I don't know.

I won't.

This is just me being really pedantic as I don't blame Moyles one bit for being angry, but did he actually say it was two months of no pay?

I thought he said "since the end of July". To me, that implied he last got paid at the end of the July. Many workplaces, including mine, pay at/near the end of the month. So his next pay (which he didn't get) was due at the end of August. And by the time he ranted, it wasn't yet the end of September. Hence he'd only have missed out on one month's pay. Or am I talking rubbish?..
#419934
I get paid on the 18th of every month. If my money wasn't in the bank on that day, I'd be complaining big time, let alone weeks later.
#419937
That wasn't what I meant - I was saying that 24 hours late is too much.

When the BBC take on a new supplier like Chris, there could be a delay for a number of normal reasons.

1. Chris wanted paying through a "new" corporate vehicle. Very Common.
2. Chris's Banking arrangements had changed.
3. It was the Summer Hols and "June" the lady who sets up the new standing orders was off on holiday for 2 weeks, then was off sick for a week with Larengytus, poor lass.
4. Maybe he was working a month "in hand" and therefore was not due to get August time sheets paid till the end of September
5. Sophie phoned June up when she got back and gave her her own bank details so all this time the money's been going to a money grabbin Ex.
6. Chris missed the new clause in the contract that said he only gets paid when the month has an r in it, doesn't rhyme with Baugherst or Pleptember.

Wo ever said that because he gets paid lots, he should have saved up to get through it.... tosser. He would have had to pay the second chunk of his tax bill at the end of July, and would I imagine be therefore at the end of any short term cash holding investments.

Ah you would not believe how similar all of those things are to what happens every day at our place. The latest was it was submitted after the deadline... after I pointed it out it wasn't they said the deadlines had changed but they hadn't told anyone. Secret deadlines!
#419946
I don't care what excuses they come up with, whoever's fault it might be, it damn well isn't mine. If they don't pay me, I stay at home until they do. Its only ever happened to me once, and it was sorted out within 24 hours, so not too bad.

That definately sounds like local authority to me!

What they actually mean is, we messed up, we don't give a toss, BITE ME! Eyeeee!

Why is it always a intelligence limited 40 something lady who says these things, and why do they find it so hard to say "Sorry" - Oh and I was refering to the administrator not the previous poster. (Yuds is very very clever)

Neatly done Boboff, neatly done. And yes, I is very clever.
