The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues

Some people are really * me off on here now.

The criticism of Vernon and some of the team is completely unwarranted and very harsh.

The CMS is a completely different style to that of his Saturday morning show, the addition of a team and longer links isn't just something you can slot into. He laughed along with the team and made the team laugh, along with me, the crabs link being one example.

When Chris was doing Kilamanjaro, by the Thursday/Friday of that week he was doing pretty much the length of links that Chris does, and doing them well. The team and Vernon had little or no preparation time for Tuesday's show so it wasn't going to be perfect. As for the technical things, I'm not sure what people mean, it wasn't terrible, the songs and news were introduced without a problem. God forbid he didn't do the "Hello", "International Radio 1" bit. He may not have played the "outs" quite right but Chris has been doing this every day for nearly 7 years now. Give him a different situation and even he may make an error or two.

If you don't like Vernon's personality/style then fine, that's your opinion but to call him childish names and constantly criticse the team isn't fair

As for the whole "Dave should be able to do it", Dave isn't suited for the main presenting role, I work in Marketing and if asked, I couldn't just switch roles and know everything there is to know about the new role, even if I've been working at this place for a long time. Unless people are shown/trained how to do things, it's difficult to just know how to do stuff by casually watching something else do it.

People on here need to stop whinging and accept that not everything can be perfect in unexpected circumstances

Tbh i haven't heard the "hello" "international radio 1" bit in ages. I think Chris must have stopped that as well now. And i totally agree with you. I like Vernon and i have doubts about Dave's ability to carry the show. But i still prefered Sara cox today and i cant wait to hear the show tomorrow and see how they get on. I dont think it will be that much of a shambles.

I like Vernon on his own show - his innocent enthusiasm shines through on a Saturday morning and with only a few hundred thousand people listening, it doesn't matter so much if he messes up. But Tuesday and Wednesday were car crash radio - with constant technical failures, breaks in conversation, the "sicky sicky poo poo" references and his obvious desire to be back in the Family Fortunes studio. Just look at the pic of him and Jay Kay on the front page of http://bbc.co.uk/chrismoyles/ - that's a pretty unrelaxed grimace that says a lot.

The team need a relaxed but firm leader at the helm, someone who has reasonable technical skills with the natural banter to keep the conversation going. Love her or hate her, Sara seems to have all of this and so the conversation flows in that usual mode of "let's talk about nothing but we'll make it very entertaining" (much like she does on Twitter). She's almost a female version of Chris IMHO. Oh how I wish she was in yesterday covering the Jay Kay interview, that could have been so much better with Sara doing it (but of course a different ballgame if the Chris were there).

come off it bwfcol.

It's not the critisism of vernon that we were disappointed with
It is the fact we have 2 presenters in dave and aled who are also part of the cm team, that we wanted the team too have a go without chris...

by the general perception of the thread, we were ok with vernon covering with advance warning.
But for first time, we have had a unanounced time where chris is off ill. and we all know that the team can run it on their own, they just needed there chance which thankfully we will get tomorrow.

Just looked on radio 1 online and tomorrows show doesn't look promising...

The Chris Moyles Show - Without Chris Moyles!
Chris is still ill, but the team are here with Best of the Guests and Friday Golden Hour.

Kinda saying too me that it will be alot of replaying of interviews. Probably the whole of mondays hour show replayed...

I'm sorry that today has been the first day i could listen to the show properly from coming off nights at work.

I thought Sara did a brilliant job today. After todays show I'd definetly rate her as the best stand in cover for Chris. The fact that she is so down to earth and obviously is a fan of the show just made it a great listen this morning. It's actually a pity she isen't on full time during the week anymore. Vernon was good but Sara took it up a notch this morning I thought. To anybody knocking her on here I just wonder if they actully listened to the show today!

Anyway tomorrow is the main event. Can't believe people are still moaning about Dave and Aled not stepping up to the plate when thats exactly what they are doing tomorrow.

Breakfast is the flagship show on the station and just dropping Dave and Aled in the drivers seat for it with just a few hours notice was probably a bad idea. Going with Vernon was just a safer option. At least now with a few days notice they can be fully up to speed. I'm sure there will still be plenty of gaffes which will add to the entertainment but nothing that would just have people switching stations.

Hey guys, new poster here, please take it easy on me!

I think this week has worked well, obviously the atmosphere in the studio is different when chris isnt there, course thats going to happen but i still think the shows have been fun. I so think the team sound a little bit sucky uppy to vernon, but i like the fact that they all get on with him and sarah off air so it makes it a good choice to go with them!

With regards to the team taking over, its a pretty safe and good idea to let them do the fri show. The golden hour doesnt require too much from them and they have something to focus their banter on, so in effect the show is a shorter one for them, With it being fri as well it always has a more relaxed feel to it anyway! Its a dipping of the proverbial toe for the team and who knows, maybe the powers to be are using as an audition in case chris is off ill again in 7 years time!!

I might have missed part of the conversation here but I have a feeling that Sara will still be on tomorrow? http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b006wkq ... s/upcoming "Chris is still ill, but Sara Cox is here with Best of the Guests and Friday Golden Hour."

Which is fine by me - I love Aled & Tina, think Dave is okay (and don't forget Dom who adds some dry, intelligent humour) but still think they need a leader. It's just the dynamic of that group.

Today's show was great - well done to Sara and the team! Sara should definitely be 1st choice from now on! Looking forward to tomorrows show too.

Should be some scene when Chris finally does return. Prone to pitty parties at the best of times, the team will be fawning and stroking poor Chris like a shower of mums round a pram at mothercare.

Cheers!

I'm sorry to those looking forward to hearing the fall out from the team taking the lead and doing the show without a lead presenter - but after Sara did such an amazing job today - we couldn't possibly risk such a car crash show tomorrow. All parties concerned felt the right thing to do after such a strong show would be for Sara to do the show again tomorrow.

We did have, what we hope was, a strong show planned with just the team tomorrow - and that day will come, but following today it's only right Sara sees the week out. There were so many effortless laughs today that Chris and the listeners deserve to have another guaranteed show like that tomorrow if it's possible.

Hope you enjoy. It'll be about the team though tomorrow with all the features planned for them we'll still use them.

The Golden Hour will be Dave's.

I'll admit I was sceptical about how Sara would work with the team, but it clicked so well today. Well done, and I'm glad she is back tomorrow (who honestly would have said they wanted Sara on the breakfast show, even if it is just cover, in 2003).

One question - wasn't Matt Edmondson brought in by Radio 1 to be the main weekday cover DJ, so that if Fearne, Greg etc. were off, he would do their shows.
Whenever Fearne is off, Sara or Annie Mac cover for her, Greg is replaced by Huw. So what's his purpose, after his lie-in finishes this weekend?

Very understandable Aled and I dont think ther will be too many complaints about that even if the car crash did appeal to my sadistic side!! If Sara is available tomorrow it would have been a pity not to bring her back. Actually it's great that it was recognised aside from posters here, that Sara did such a great job on the air today.
#417013
That's fair enough Aled. Thanks for letting us know. Sara did do a brilliant job today and deserves to do it tomorrow.

The Golden Hour will be Dave's.

Looks like I was right about Chris choosing the tracks for the golden hours which means that beetlejuice was wrong and shouldn't have been * writing this last night:
aww your naivety is actually quite cute!

Also Aled, you said the day will come when you and the team will host it by yourself. Does that mean that this will happen next time Chris is away or are there no plans in place yet? I still would like to see how you all cope without him!
#417014
I have always liked Sara Cox to be fair, but this morning I thought she was absolutely brilliant!
She was funny, witty, and even though she spouted about rubbish, she made it sound interesting! I'm looking forward to tomorrow's show now, and when Chris is off next, surely she can do the breakfast slot and not have to put up with Mills!
One question though, I thought Sara was due to cover for Eggy Ferne tomorrow? Will someone else now move into that slot, maybe Greg James and Huw does Greg's show? I still think Matt Edmonsdon deserves a drive during the day??

Only listened to the first 90 mins today as I had to sleep after night-shift and enjoyed it. The main reason was that she is down to earth and you know she clicks well with the team and it shows. I didn't mind Vernon from listening to yesterday's show but just plays a little too much music as the links are shorter.

Would be nice to see her there filling in whenever Chris is off sick or on holiday. But with children etc, will be a little hard.
#417022
Absolutely the correct decision to let Sara present the show tomorrow. As someone else said, I am glad that everyone concerned thought she was great. I have to be honest and say that I thought today's show was up there with what Chris offers. The chemistry she had with the team was fantastic and you could tell they loved her as well.

Sara is second only to Chris on Radio 1 in my opinion. And whenever Chris is off in future Sara should be the one to cover him. And also when the entire team is off as she is a massive improvement on Scott Mills.

EDIT: Where is the video of the control Tina feature this morning?

I loved the show today, so much so that about an hour into it I was thinking that I would be quite happy if it became a permanent thing (Sara with the team instead of Chris), not that it ever would of course. I didn't miss Chris at all, and I am a huge fan of his. Sara is just so lovely and easygoing, she obviously listens to the show a lot and gets on well with the others, and so it all worked perfectly. I would still prefer to hear just the team on their own have a go tomorrow, purely for the novelty value. I don't know what Aled meant when he said 'that day will come', because if this is the first time Chris has been off sick in god knows how many years, they're unlikely to get the opportunity anytime soon! I wish Aled hadn't got my hopes up on that one.

Whilst I don't want Sara to replace Chris, one idea did come to mind though. Chris often talks/jokes about wanting Fridays off, and I could certainly live with Sara doing Fridays show- that's if they got rid of the waste of time that is the Golden Hour.

An even better idea though would just be to replace Fearne give her show to Sara. Seems like common sense to me, assuming Sara wants a daily show. And today's efforts certainly wouldn't have done her chances any harm.
