The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues

She reminds me of a really irritating 10 year old who hasn't learnt how to regulate the volume of her voice yet. Not only that but her general topics of conversation mirror that of a 10 year old too.

This is when all respect for R1 bosses goes flying out the window. We have just had three weeks of excellent radio from Sara Cox and now we are back to Fearne. I am no Fearne hater, but Sara is in a diffeent league all together. She is a genuinely funnny woman and full of personality, whereas Fearne most definitely is not.

Sara should be doing 10-1 ASAP. Move Fearne wheever they like, but Sara Cox doing one show a week and Fearne five is ridiculous.

I still think Andy Parsnip is still "punishing her" (for want of a better term) because of how the Breakfast Show went from being a success to a flop. She had drive-time, briefly but then got relegated to being a fill in DJ. I just hope that when it comes for her time to move to Radio 2 she gets a more permanent slot.

When she does go to Radio 2 I hope she gets a show with vey little music. I keep hearing that R1 isnt for my age group so a couple of times rcently I have tuned in to R2 to give it a go. The first time I tuned in was for Chris Evans and the first song I heard was by Pat Boone. The second time, a couple of weeks ago, was Steve Wright and he did a golden oldie feature and the first song was by Neil Sedaka!

I struggle to see either Sara Cox or Moyles fitting in there, even though it is their likely destination.

She said on the handover this morning that Ben was taking her for breakfast next Friday (she is back in covering for Fearne).

One can only hope he is offering her the show. She may not accept but as she is infinitely better than the present incumbent it would be a shame not to give her the opportunity.

Ha ha. She was talking about her boyfriend Ben Cyzer, not Ben Cooper!

I'd say 6 Music is perhaps the best station for them both, they'd both fit in well there, for me Radio 2 is sometimes "too broad" music wise, if you get what I mean by that.

She's covering for Fearne again, see I don't get this, Sara is a great presenter, especially on that show & yet the person who's supposed to be on the show isn't there half the time, plus is crap at presenting, I just don't see the logic.

Johnny 1989, you've summed up everything about Fearne. Well done, and thank you!

I remember, when before Fearne was on her new slot, she was covering for Jo Whiley, and moyles said to her:

"Fearne, what are you doing here, you only do 3 shows a year!"

Very funny!

She ain't in no hurry to come back to full time weekday working. :(

That's exactly what I was going to say. I doubt she would consider a permanent weekday show at the moment.

Before she had her most recent child I asked on twitter whether she would like a regular weekday slot and she said she would. I am not sure, but I think she may have been pregnant at the time. Anyway, even if she wouldnt do the weekday slot she should be offered two days at the weekend.

They should get rid of Edith who is awful in my opinion, and either Jo Whiley or Sara should replace her. Preferably Jo, and Sara could take her afternoon slot, which If my memory serves me correctly, she had before she had her second child.

Sounds like you got an offer accepted there and you missed it.

English Bob wrote:OH GOD COTTONS BACK

I literally have to turn the radio down for her inevitable 'MORNING' shout every day, then turn it back up to hear the handover.

Also...did anyone hear that godawful jingle performed by Scouting for Girls advertising her show? Claiming 'Everyone loves the Cotton' or some such bs.

Bad enough that she has to follow the Moyles Show, now she's seeping into other shows with her adverts! AGH!

I've dug up this thread after having had the misfortune to witness the awful Fearne presenting some of of the Beeb's coverage of the royal wedding today, which reminded me of just why I always make sure I turn off the radio at 10am. I've just been browsing the DM online, for my sins, and this part of their article on the best and worst tv coverage of the day made me smile as it pretty much sums up what I think about Fearne. It turns out they're not big fans of Edith either.

'We’re back to Fearne interviewing excitable people in jester hats (what is it with jester hats? Does anyone look good in one?). As soon as Fearne asked them a question and they responded you could see her eyes glaze over.

Her vacuous stare reminds me of that joke about dogs and what they hear when their masters speak: ‘Blah, blah, blah, Rover, blah, blah, Rover.’ I suspect you only need to substitute the name Fearne for Rover and you’ll have a fair idea of what it’s like on Planet Cotton.

Up in St Andrews, where both Prince William and Kate Middleton attended university, Edith Bowman was not faring much better. Inexplicably she chose a lilac outfit so mumsy that both Hyacinth Bouquet and Susan Boyle would have rejected it. Luckily for her, the BBC’s sound cut out before she said something. Oh, if only we had enjoyed the same level of fortune with Fearne.'

Right on the money there I think.

Fearne Cotton and to a lesser extent Chris Hollins were both so awful presenting the crowd chat from the wedding today - they went a long way to spoiling what was otherwise for me a really enjoyable coverage.

I have softened my opinion on Fearne Cotton recently. She isnt great on the radio or on the telly but she isnt awful either. It seems it is the done thing to have a go at Fearne and slate everything she does, when she really isnt as bad as she is made out at all.

The way she allows Keith Lemon to rip the shit out of her on Celeb Juice impresses me! Fair play to her. She is up for a laugh and I like her, even if she isnt the best broadcaster ever to appear on the BBC.

Edith Bowman on the other hand is abominable on the radio. I defy anybody to listen to her on R1 at the weekend and get through more than 15 minutes without either turning the radio off or sticking your fingers down your throat.
#436752
I think that is a slightly harsh representation of Fearne. I thought she did an OK job earlier of the proceedings and she had confidence in what she was doing and she managed to relate with the crowd well. And as said before she is brilliant on Celebrity Juice.

I agree both Fearne and Edith were terrible. They must have both slept with Mark Thompson or something.

For the love of God pull yourself together.

There was a time when being a broadcaster for the BBC meant something. When one could go anywhere in the world, present yourself as 'BBC', be immediately elevated to the status of British diplomat and have the ear of those in power.

Whilst the BBC should absolutely be the schooling ground and the testing ground for broadcasters and journalists, them being gainfully and permanently employed based solely on their ability to act as endearing moron on another television programme and being 'up for a laugh' should be frowned upon and discouraged.
