The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues

Having, followed the 'Chris' Contract' topic to keep up to date with what was going on re: Chris' contract, I was relieved to see that he is now on for at least another year.

Yay.

Though it did get me thinking, what else out there on the radio (not necessarily in the uk) is to the taste of a Chris Moyles fan? Who else do you guys listen to that even bears the slightest resemblance in style to Chris and the team? I need recommendations for when the inevitable happens with Moyles.

I will look forward to hearing your thoughts.

I don't think there is anything, but that doesn't mean that there isn't some excellent radio out there. A lot of it is on Radio 2.......

There are some excelent podcasts about.

I'm totally in love with Smodcast, its Kevin Smith (Director of Dogma, Mallrats, Clerks etc etc) and Scott Mossier (his best friend and Producer of all the films).

The episodes are between and 1-2 hours long and there are 125 episodes at present and its a bit like 1-2 hours of ramble

Whoever it is, I can see myself trying them out for a couple of days, not liking them, and reverting to Chris Evans, hoping it'd be like 1996 again. Then I'd realise it wasn't. Not sure what I'd do beyond that.

I do like Simon Mayo on Drive though.

Here's what I listen to in addition to Chris (all these are podcasts, available through iTunes, if you use it). Note that if you grab a random podcast from any of these guys, you may not immediately "get" the humour (a bit like with Chris), but it's worth persevering if you are in to comedy:

* Adam Carolla http://www.adamcarolla.com/ACPBlog/
* Greg Fitzsimmons http://www.gregfitzsimmons.com/
* Marc Maron http://wtfpod.com/home.htm
* Frank Skinner http://www.absoluteradio.co.uk/podcasts ... lute-Radio
* Loveline (the Carolla Years 1995-2005) http://www.lovelinetapes.com/
-- When I heard people raving about an old radio show, my first thought was "why?" but I listened to a few, and I'm hooked. By far the funniest radio show I've ever heard.

A short sample of the stuff that goes on in a Loveline show (NSFW):

Smodcast is great. I can't really get into the other spin offs like Tell Em Steve-Dave but Smodcast is on my list of podcasts that I always go looking for.

There used to be a lot more DJ's on air about 10-15 years ago that had their own style to give to the airwaves. However there isn't as many as there used to be these days (especially in commerical radio). However of what's available:

Mark Radcliffe & Stuart Maconie (Radio 2)
Marc "Lard" Riley (6 Music)
Jon Holmes (6 Music)
Geoff Lloyd (Absolute Radio)
Simon Mayo (Radio 2)

Problem being most of them are on at exactly the same time or overlap, Radcliffe & Maconie and Lard are on at exactly the same time and Geoff Lloyd clashes with Mayo, Radcliffe & Maconie and Lard. Jon Holmes is on a Saturday and is the best thing on a Saturday Evening in my opinion.

Other than that I listen to old Chris Moyles shows circia 2001 and any Mark & Lard Graveyard/Afternoon shows.

I love listening to Simon Mayo in the afternoon - I think he is my second favourite radio presenter.

Exactly. Right now it seems the cult of ex childrens tv presenters seems to get you a gig on the radio.

Howard Stern in America bud.

Exactly, Capital FM was a good example, they had a great mixture of DJ's on air back in the late 90's, perhaps one of the best in London & over time they unfortunately all left. Radio 1 used to have quite a good variety as well: Ball/Coxy at Breakfast, Mayo for late breakfast, Whiley for late morning/lunchtimes, Mark & Lard for early afternoons, Moyles for Drive-time, Pearce for evenings, something for everyone. Nowadays with the exception of Moyles and one or two at the weekend they're all bland, Capital is atrocious these days.

Howard Stern's show is almost nothing like Moyles', except in that it is talk based rather than music based. The style and the content is completely different.

A show based on banter and humour all the same.

there also a ongoing 'cast of characters with the 'wack pack' although with more on an on-air presence than imaginary Martin etc...

Of course Stern's contract is up at the end of the year, doubt if he stays he'll do as many shows as he does now (and even then they only do 4 days a week with lots of holidays).

Another one of my favorites is the Tony Kornheiser show which airs on ESPN 980 from Washington, DC in the States. It deals with American sport regularly, but has the same type of humour as Moyles and is definitely worth a few listens.

On this side of the Irish sea, the DJ I'd rate most is a chap called KC on national station Today FM. His usual slot is 10pm-midnight but until the end of this week you can hear him covering on the breakfast show from 7am-9am. http://www.todayfm.com

He has something of a cult following and is big on new Irish music. Until a few months back he was part of a double act with the KC & Lenny breakfast show for a regional youth station over here-Red FM. They picked up many awards during their stint there. I know their accents are probably a bit too strong for a mainstream UK audience to appreciate, but he's definetly one of the best Ireland has to offer!

Anyway heres a taster for anybody thats interested.
