If anyone's looking for an online kind of version of a wallchart (well not wallchart, because you can't put it on your wall... but you know what I mean) look no further than here, I think it's brilliant.

For all the non qualifying home nations that Chris told to switch off, Scots comedy group The Sweaty Jocks have released our World Cup Song. We might not be as good at football but our songs are much better than yours!!! Its lighthearted football banter designed to raise a smile so tell all your friends and sing along as loud as you can (and join the campaign to get Chris playing this!!) :D

Only the Scots would release a song for a competition that they can't qualify for. I don't understand why you all care so much about a competition you aren't even in. Save it for next time you do qualify. Then with any luck we won't ever have to hear it...............(just a bit of banter designed to raise a smile you understand....*smiley face*).

Anyway - come on Uruguay.

I managed to get a bookie in Manchester to hate me instantly yesterday, I stuck a bet on Germany each way after he saw my ID with Scotland on it. I think he was genuinely pissed off. Knob.

I didn't give a * about England losing till I read this. I reckon that speaks volumes... 8)

i didn't mean to imply that the whole of scotland agrees with this mentality - just that things like this are the actions of people (by people i mean the ones who enjoy/perpetuate it) who justify themselves by their more successful rivals (in football terms), and revel in disparaging any of their successes - or even joy.

i like scotland :( just that a lot of this is reminiscent of very bitter football fans

Isn't that how it works with football though? Doesn't everyone want their rival to do badly?

Chuck the England / Scotland thing into the mix and wotcha expects gonna happen?

Football does my tits in, it really does. It causes, and is used as the excuse for, so many inane and unnecessary arguments. It also results in a breed of men who cannot talk about anything OTHER than football. *tuts*

in my experience, it doesn't really translate into national football (unless there's a head to head meeting).

with germany and france there's no real unprovoked national rivalry with england unless they somehow cross our paths - with club football it's quite common, but still - those fans who do it are usually in a rivalry with a club much bigger than them (hence the jealousy, and mentality of a small club by justifying their rivals' failure as a success).

Perfect example. I bet it doesn't take long before you end up asking it either. Then, if the response is "to be honest, football is a foreign language to me" then you stop talking to process how this is possible. I mean, the thing in front of you LOOKS like a man, surely it MUST understand the one thing that ALL men have in common...?

Not that this is a personal gripe or anything. :P

I don't really follow all you said about big clubs and small clubs. All I know is that I have watched my mates turn from being normal guys I get on well with to racist, bigoted dicks, all because of football. And that's just with Celtic and Rangers.

Chuck in the fact that this football pish is a good chance for the Scotch to feel all patriotic (and what better way is there to feel patriotic than to cry FREEDOM etc from our cruel Engerlish rulers) and that the Engerlish tend to antagonise the situation, It's not really surprising that everyones getting highly strung.

Can we just ban football and have a hug instead?

Yes. But Scotland aren't in the competition so they don't actually have any rivals. So why do "they" care so much, if its about football rivalry? Because it isn't of course. Its very weird.

Surely they can still be rivals without being in the same competition? That said, you're right, its not about the football part.

I hate the French and Thierry Henry for his hand ball tactics against Ireland, watching the France Uruguay game this afternoon i have never been so HAPPY he was SCREAMING FOR A HANDBALL to the ref, OH THE IRONY!!! And being sat beside a whole group of Frenches in the bar made it all that better when the final whistle sounded !!
