My rule is simply never to post anything personal enough that it could invite a response that, if negative, may offend me. Unless I'm in a private section of a forum. The rule especially applies if I can see there's a trouble-maker about. Simple really.

But then I haven't been here long enough and don't post often enough to feel comfortable with talking about myself in much detail anyway... I suppose for long-standing members it feels easier to do it. In which case, perhaps a harsh snap back to reality is actually quite useful. It's worth bearing in mind that what you are writing can potentially be seen by anyone, and that's too often taken for granted.

it's a fine line that is in different places for different people. i never saw the topic. maybe the person was giving her heartfelt account to enable us to understand. educate.
if someone started a topic and someone has a personal opinion that they wish to express it. wouldn't you respect that opinion. or if someone has knowledge on a matter. wouldn't you respect that.
my point. if you have a opinion. respect that 1st opinion whilst expressing yours. and if it's a sensitive subject. if you can't respond in a respectful manner. don't respond.
i seem to remember a new poster about 2 years ago. something about no boyfriend or he'd just dumped the poster. you were all respectful and even gave some good advice to her.

Look carefully at the posts of these people to who we are responding supposedly unpleasantly. If they come on here full of aggression, combative, looking for an argument, then that's what they get. Otherwise, people are usually very polite and helpful.

I understand both areas of what your saying yudster. If they come on with aggression. You'll respond in jest. Same with when we're all polite and helpful. I'm not sure no the posters name who complained.(apologies. On my mobile writing this) But my point was. If you put personal feelings on a forum for reasons to help as the porter who complained about beadle. The poster put info on here. I'm guessing it Was for educational purposes. (i'm not sure.) what would you do if beadle said it to you when putting something personal to educate and open peoples eyes to help other people out in a problem that you've experienced. I'm sure if i had a problem and someone on the forum could help me out. I'd be greatful.

I have to be honest and say that I can't really decipher what you are trying to get at with most of this. However, I still maintain that if you put personal information in a public place which you have no direct control over, you really are asking for trouble, and if trouble is what you get, you shouldn't be surprised, let along self-righteously indignant and petulant, like English Bob. I also think Beadle is a tedious prick and a lot of what he wrote is second rate flaming which just reflects badly on him rather than makes anyone smile any more. But personally I can't see why they both shouldn't be here. I'm all for diversity.

I always do that too!

Anyway, I didn't like Beadle in any way, and whilst some people would say 'get over it' this was a topic that effected Bob. I wouldve reported it if he'd said something offensive about people with OCD for example. I think we could manage with Beadle before but he overstepped the line and got punished in a fair way. It's also down to the fact that everyones different and takes things in different ways.
